More than 10 years ago a guy I knew married a lovely Russian girl whom he met when doing research in Siberia. It was definitely true love. He is a huge Pink Floyd fan, and days after they came to Britain to live, a very rare Pink Floyd show was announced in London. He bought the best tickets as a special treat for himself and his new bride. But she had hardly been to a rock show, let alone a Floyd extravaganza and the culture and sensory shock was just too much. Within a few minutes of the start she became totally terrified, by the tremendous noise, flashing lights, lasers, 3D crashing aeroplanes etc. She begged him to get her out of there. He pleaded with her to stay, it was so long since he had seen the Floyd. But it was no good, she was hysterical and they had to leave. He (and she) got over it ...eventually.. and they are still together :-)

Russian brides-to-be dreaming of their prospective Deadhead husband. They lie in their beds at night and think "Ah to have that heavy scent of patchouli in my nostrils every day. Those long gorgeous dread-locks. Sigh! The thrill of the road from the back of a vw micro bus with shovels and rakes and impliments of de-struction, is what I sooooo long for. I switched a few on to the Dead when I was in Russia last month. I tried to warn them that deadhead dudes might not be exactly what they were looking for. But they thought it was just my crazy English sense of humour. They simply would not believe that people in the richest country in the world would really chose to carry on like that ;-)
