    A "rock picnic." The Field Trip. Kesey's Creamery. August 27, 1972. The Springfield Creamery Benefit. Call it what you will, the sun was beating down hard and bright on that fateful day in Veneta, Oregon when the Grateful Dead heeded Ken Kesey's call to help save the family Creamery. The 100-degree and rising temperatures did not deter the band who were still riding high from their adventures across the pond. It did not discourage filmmakers John Norris, Phil DeGuere, and Sam Field who gained entry into the Dead's tight-knit world with their promise to capture the culture and integrity of the scene. And it certainly didn't inhibit the estimated 20,000 Dead Heads who could not believe their, well, pot...luck.

    In fact, this blistering day turned out to be a near-perfect little piece of the Grateful Dead experience and it is with great pleasure, that 41 years later we can present Sunshine Daydream to you the way it was meant to be seen and heard. As Prankster Ken Babbs puts it in the liner notes, this previously unreleased concert film "is a time capsule, a vessel full of exuberant free spirit as exhibited by the enraptured, edified, and satisfied concertgoers, a spirit that can still resound, that can still fill our hearts with joy, with compassion, with that sense and knowledge of our oneness, our open sharing and caring and the belief that the goodness inherent in all of us will continue to shine just as it did in Veneta, Oregon, in 1972. And will prevail." And prevail it does, with its pristine sound and beautiful visuals, the band transporting the audience to other-worldly planes with definitive versions of their beloved songs like "Bertha," "China>Rider," "Playing In The Band,""Greatest Story Ever Told,""Dark Star," and "Sing Me Back Home" and the Dead Heads in their wild and, quite literally, naked glory.

    A Dead.net exclusive, this "most requested" and "most revered" show is limited to 12,500 individually numbered copies on Blu-ray. Presented in an original tie-dye slipcase by Courtenay Pollock, the set also includes 40-page book with in-depth essays by David Lemieux, Sam Field, Johnny Dwork, Ken Babbs, and Nicholas G. Meriwether.

    With out unwrapping, how do I tell the DVD and Blu-ray apart?

    Upon exiting the theater, splintered sunshine must've been shooting out of me body. I knew immediately that I had to rush home to order the Blu ray.Thanks to all who made this restoration possible,

    It took me about 2 seconds to decide to order the Blu-Ray package. I'm thrilled. I have most of the previously circulated mixdowns and though at least a couple sound very good, nothing will top having a newly-mastered HDCD of the whole show plus the movie FINALLY! Thanks to GDM for finally letting us hear this show in its 16 track glory! I'd long heard that like Egypt, Jerry would never authorize this show for release because the instruments were out of tune (excessive heat on this show, no piano tuner for Egypt). Warts and all, this is still one of my favorite shows of all time.

    I bought tickets for the movie as soon as they were available and then forgot to go! Doh! Sorry I missed seeing the tribe at the theater, but I already pre-ordered the Blu-Ray package so at least I'll get to see the concert at home. I'm looking forward to it.

    this is a show of legend I would love to see. I was thinking on the way to the movie that I've heard David Lemieux talk about footage of shows but not enough to put out. Well what if you did some crazy 3D effects for filler? Like last night if you had blurry or chaotic footage you just match it with some space jam and it's "trippy & artsy"! Then there was the very weird but entertaining Monty Pythonesque animation.

    What a TRIP!
    Saw this last night and it was like getting in a time machine! Great way to celebrate Jerry's birthday. Was amazed at how young everyone looked! Sound quality was phenomenal and the video was surprisingly good. Great shots of Jerry in the zone. Will be getting it and watching it every year AT LEAST!

    Literally tears of joy
    Words can hardly express how freaking special that was, thanks to everyone involved for making it happen. Watching it, one second I was giggling like I just tabbed some fresh Owsley acid then suddenly tears of joy would well in my eyes; luckily, I didn't need to worry that the cat sitting next to me would think I was losing my mind... which is what it probably looked like. (Even though far from losing my mind I was indeed finding that part of myself that embraced this spirit, this music, this culture so universally loving) The theatre in Northgate, Seattle, was sold completely out. People danced in the aisles. At one point, during that thirty minute Dark Star, I had the profound realization that I was actually in a theatre full of heads watching a thirty minute Dark Star and thinking "if someone ever asked me back in the day if I would see myself one day sitting in a dark theatre and enjoying the psychedelic roller coaster ride that is a big wampus Dark Star rolling out over thirty minutes what I would've said - "wouldn't that be a trip?" Everyone have an awesome Jerry week!

    Creamery skit
    Saw this last night and thought it was wonderful. One thing, though - my copy has a skit at the very beginning where Babbs plays a banker or someone similar who had been extending credit to the creamery but now wants payments be made COD. Why did this get cut? Doesn't matter, really - it's a truly great time capsule and fantastic performance.

    Saw the movie last night and was blown away. The team did such a great job with everything. I loved the bouncing into the acid tests and back to the show. Very well done. The sound quality at the theater I saw it in was excellent as well. Cant wait to see what you have instore for next year. Sincerely Kevin

    Hey Now ! Saw the movie last night - What a Great Job! Thanks alot, much better than my grainy VHS copy- although some of the extra stuff on that was pretty cool as well Can the Crew do this kind of a restoration on Las Vegas 5-30-1992 , Lightning Day ? I could write a detailed essay about that day, and how all our old friends came back to visit, and throw lightning bolts with Thunderous Booms timed to the Second set - "I need a Miracle Every Day, da da ,de da BOOM, dat de dat de da, de da de da BOOM , dat de dat de da...with the Lightning flashes surrounding the stadium~ Then, as the show was ending , the storm did as well, the cloud over the stadium rolled halfway back, so that, if you looked up, half the sky was blue, and the underside of the clouds were illuminated reddish pink by the setting sun over behind the stadium, creating a Stealy over the top of the stadium for "Knocking on Heaven's Door". After the show people just walked around hugging each other, telling each other that it was Real, and that they Really Saw That ! Peace and Aloha ~ Kerry (east Coast)

    I obviously can't say for certain, but I would imagine there will be a difference of picture quality favoring Bluray due to the very limited bitrate level of DVD.

I've now received 2 separate emails saying this item is available again, and the store shows it not available. Customer service does not answer any of my emails.
