In San Francisco...

... we like to stay at the Hotel St. Francis. About $200 a night for a king bed with a view on Union Square. Course, you could go the other direction and stay at the Seal Rock Inn. A corner suite with an ocean view runs about $150. It's in the Richmond neighborhood out by the Golden Gate. This was Hunter S. Thompson's home in SF. We like it too, if we're in the mood. You guys are doin' good w/the exchange rate right now -- parity with the US dollar -- GO FOR IT! ((/*\)) ; ~ }}

Good Advice, Docks...

But, Buddy-the sound always sucked @ the Cow Palace, as far as I'm concerned (or was it just @ the rodeos?) ....move the special concert 4 Badger somewhere else, ok? How about the Greek? Good Luck...xoxoMaybe w/ the exception of Paul McCartney & Wings back in '76 I think it was....sounded fine then

If you're going..........

you might love seeing Mission Dolores which I think is the oldest building in San Francisco. It was built in the late 1700s by Spanish missionaries and it is a beautiful old place with an historic graveyard. It is off of Market Street going toward Twin Peaks, 16th & Dolores. At the foot of Market Street is the Ferry Building. There is a farmers market there, perhaps three days a week. One day we got a breakfast of fruit and peach turnovers there and then took the ferry to Sausalito. There is a really nice statue of Gandhi at the Ferry Building....so good to see. Also, the redwoods are a site to behold. One of my favorite groves is about an hour and a half north of the city in Sonoma County. You cross the Golden Gate Bridge and drive a bit above the Santa Rosa exits and take River Road exit heading west to Guernville. Armstrong Grove is located about a mile down Armstrong Woods Road. It is a state park and it is so majestic and silent in there. Korbel Cellars is on River Road and it follows the Russian River. The Grateful Dead played at Rio Nido, under the redwoods in the '60s. And yes, North Beach is a must.

I'm on my way ...

a week from today. A bud and I are going to do the SF 1/2 maraton - his 1st, my 3rd. Of course, I'll be making a stop or two at Amoeba and marauding the streets of North Beach and the Missions. I love the two hour time-zone thing - I'm from St. Louis - and the feeeel of the pristine skies and cooool temps. Oh, lawdy! The coolest thing is my family and I (and daughter's boyfriends - more than one daughter) were very recently in Hilton Head, S.C. Two different universes in a month!!!So if you see a bald Italian and a tan Irishman, be sure to say hola, y'all!

I grew up in Ohio, lived in Colorado for 15 years, and now live in Adelaide, South Australia. In 3 weeks my wife, three step kids(15,14,10), mother/ father-in-law and I will be in San Francisco starting a nine week holiday taking us all over the U.S. San Fran is my favorite city in the states. This will be the first trip for my family. We just have 4 days there, but have much planned. After that we head to Vegas, Denver, South Carolina, Atlanta, Orlando, back north to D.C., New York, Niagra Falls, Ohio, Tennesse, then back to S.C. to fly back here to Adelaide. A trip of a lfetime for the kids and hopefully they will see the real America rather than the hollywood version. See ya soon.
