A Happy (& maybe not so incomprehensible) New Year to us all!

Okay. I'll play. . . I suspect that many of us here are past those riotous, public celebrations of New Year's Eve of our youth ("Hello!" Edie Brickell in Deep Ellum!). . . Right now (10AM) I'm spinning "Hundred Year Hall" – that's the album that finally ushered me onto the bus after years of dabbling with mostly studio albums. I've got other stuff to do this afternoon, but "Hundred Year Hall's" got me thinking about cueing up SonicWallpaper's mix of all (but 1) of the Dark Stars from 1972 so I can whistle while I work. It's almost 12 hours long, so we'll see how far (out) I get. Not sure if we're going to have to make an appearance at some friends' house this evening, but later on (back home well before midnight in any case), I think I'll dust off "Infrared Roses", fire it up, step out on the deck with mi espousa, and twirl up into the Milky Way – should be a crystal clear evening. I know, not a new year's eve show, but I'll catch back up with them next year, sometime after I get back from my galactic tour. . .

Here's to a Happy (and maybe not quite so Incomprehensible) New Year to us all!!! Onward.

    Staying in

Was also contemplating spinning the 12-31-78 DVD.

Fireworks are legal here, maybe I should get some, but you have to go to a brick and mortar for the stuff that leaves the ground, no tent sales for the good stuff (supposedly keeps the pop-up tents from putting the stores out of business). The closest brick and mortar is about 20 miles away, in an area I never travel to, so I always say I want some fireworks but never bother to go get them.

    1stshow has it right...

We've still got covid making the rounds and, in any case, I too do not venture forth on New Year's. I have a stack of Grateful Dead shows to have a second listen, more Jimi and Roy B to catch with, and ~40 new CDs of long-dead bluesmen to enjoy and study. And my late father left me a major upgrade in sound system with Infinity Monitor speakers, so sound quality at reasonable volumes is now the thing. Like 1stshow I'll round up a whiskey and a couple beers, load the vaporizer and skip jail time. In fact, I hardly travel by vehicle on any major holiday, as the heat is on.

To sum up, after 50 years of carousing, when "the heat is on," HF is back at the crib, enjoying.

Now, tomorrow, Dec. 21, is the Winter Solstice, and I manage to lure a couple musicians over for some blues and rock and they take it easy, too. The last song of the evening will be Chuck Willis' "I Don't Want to (Hang up My Rock 'n Roll Shoes," just not on NYE...........

    Safe At Home

We call New Years Eve amateur night. Those that don't drink regularly come out and show how "out of shape" they are. The cops are waiting for them! May play the Closing of Winterland DVD for some nostalgia and have some special saved top shelf product.
A 12-pack of Corona Light will guarantee a no hangover New Years Day where we get out and do our first day of the year fresh list of bird sightings. This year going with our old college chums who got us into birding on New Years Day 1983. A good day will be 30 species and qualify for starting out with a bang. My annual list was a meager 111 this year and just got Life List number 291 last week. Clearly we are not avid birders but it is a great excuse to get out there and do something. Enjoy safely everyone!
    Cheers
