We'll be Rothbury first timers! Can't wait! Traveling to see my 5th Dead show this year.. But as I read through the website it sounds a tad uptight??? I assume its laid back but just wondering... Will there be a shakedown st you think? "Escaping through the lily fields, I came across an empty space. It rainbow then exploded, left a bus stop in its place. The bus come by and I got on, thats when it all began. It was Cowboy Neal at the wheel of the bus to never ever land"

The 3G's 'aka Grateful Garcia Gathering 2009
The 3Gs ('aka Grateful Garcia Gathering), is returning back to the Camp NCN Venue in beautiful Black River Falls Wisconsin July 30th though August 2nd 2009 where it all began over 6 years ago! A grateful place where Garcia fans will be gathering! It also marks the celebration of Jerry Garcia's 67th Birthday, plus the 14th Anniversary of Jerry's untimely passing. We have leased the campground venue for July 30th though August 3rd 2009 for our 6th annual music festival. Other great music festivals have hosted at this venue such as Weedstock, Farmapalooza, Sundog Summer Shakedown, the Big Wu Family Reunion, Campout Roots Festival, Effit Fest, just to name a few! The venue features 75-plus acres of brilliant surroundings with tall trees that nicely shades your camp site. Campers are welcome to have campfires at each individual campsite and firewood is available at the venue. The venue has a full array of conveniences, including 2 facilities with flush toilets and hot showers and other luxurious accommodations. Other venue amenities include a sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits, hiking trails, outdoor/indoor shower facility, full service concessions with food, two music stages, and more!

For your fishing, swimming, and water sports pleasures the venue has a beautiful five-acre natural spring fed lake with sandy beaches, plus the lake has a paddle boat available for your enjoyment with a fixed swimming platform. Many near by hotels/motels to choose from in Black River Falls if outdoor camping isn't your desire!

This is going to be a very deeply humble, and special time for camping and gathering with friends of old and new! The 3G's will be a mix of wonderful music by some of the best Jambands in the midwest playing their original music, along with their selections of two or three Grateful Dead cover songs. Our friends at Mystix Toyz will be on board at the 3G's for tons of family fun with juggling demonstrations, including juggling workshops, face painting, kids parades, plus drum circles and fire dance jams every night!

Hey folks, if you havent heard of Forecatle Festival in Louisville, KY you might want to consider the trip. This years 8th Annual is one the gratest yet, headlines include Widespread Panic (2 nights) Black Keys, Black Crows, Avett Brothers, Zappa Plays Zappa, YonderMSB, and Umphrey's to name a few and many many more TBA. This Festival is located in beautiful downtown Louisville on the Waterfront on July 10-12, where camping is available, but hurry camping space is becoming limited because of the big names this year. This sould be another special year for the Louisville concert scene. Myself and others will be promoting Forecastle on my radio show "Road Trips" every Tuesday night at 8p.m. to 10 on 99.5 WUDR Dayton, OH or online at http://flyer-radio.udayton.edu/home.htm where you will recieve constant updates and grate live music. We are trying very hard this year to bring more people around the country to experience a wonderful time in the Derby City. For more information, you can contact me at boonetrc@gmail.com or http://www.forecastlefest.com/ I encourage all of you to tune into "Road Trips" every Tuesday at 8-10 PM and give me some feedback, streaming online at http://flyer-radio.udayton.edu/home.htm Thanks all & see you there!!! -Travis

OK, so I am relatively new to going to festivals. Don't get me wrong, they are a blast! But, they are also expensive. It's costing $270 just to get into Lockn this year. I wonder if it's better to just go to one or 2 festivals a year or take that money and spread it out to see a bunch of shows throughout the year? -Dave

since I've done the festival thing. But I'd say it's different from going to a show; it's a more immersive scene. Hey, I'll never forget waking up outdoors in Veneta and wandering off to a big field to see the Dead (and a whole lot of cool vendors) in 1982. If that, and the random fleeting community, are not a big deal to you, maybe go with the shows, but if you want that thing you have to get at a fest...

Yes, I bought tickets for last years event when Neil Young & Crazy Horse were still the headline... even though they had to cancel, this was a GREAT first Festival experience! That's why I'm going again... See you there, iGrateful

I was disappointed they couldn't get Neil Young for this year. Heard they tried. But still looking forward to it. It will be the biggest festival I've ever gone to, so a bit nervous about that. But hopefully everyone is cool and we can relax and enjoy all the great music lined up. -Dave

Hey! I do remember Tiger Lilly, though I don't know if she remembers me. We used to waste away the days chatting on here back when the chatroom was popular a few years back. I hope she is doing well. Miss our talks. -Dave

Mary asked me if I wanted a party for my 60th birthday or go to a show, and of course I said a show. So she got tickets for the Interlockin Festival. Sorry that Bob and Ratdog can't make it (all the best Bobby, take care of yourself) but looks like Billy K is fielding a band and will fill in for Bobby. AND Phil and Friend (2 nights), String Cheese (2 night), Widespread Panic (2 nights) Wilco (2 nights), Allman Bros for one night, Tom Petty to close the show as well as other great bands (Tedeski and Trucks, Keller Williams, and much more). Today is our 34th anniversary. I can't tell you how grate a 'ride' this has been. Mary and I went to many Dead shows along with other travels and adventures. 3 healthy happy boys, (all out of the house and employed ;o}!!!! Yay!!!) and looking forward to more travel and fun together. I am the luckiest guy on earth. The truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

We used to go only to DelFest & DSO Jubilee, and the All Good. Too old for a lot of travelling these days. But we discovered FloydFest in Floyd, VA about 10 years ago, and haven't missed it since. I'm not gonna spend a lot of time convincing you - it's a small fest, they purposely limit the attendance, it sells out each year weeks before it opens. But you'll be doing yourself a solid if you check it out. This year is Greg Allman, Warren Haynes, Keller Williams, Bruce Hornsby, Leftover Salmon, Railroad Earth, etc. etc. It's 5 days of camping and music right ON the Blue Ridge Parkway in the gorgeous mountains near the North Carolina, SW Virginia border. Floyd, VA has one stoplight. And a Friday night bluegrass jam at the general store that's nationally famous. It's a stop on the Crooked Road, for you roots music fans. Not too far from Blacksburg, if you know where VA Tech is. FloydFest, the last week in July each year. If you miss it, it's your loss.

I can't stand festivals! There's more than one band and sometimes more than one stage. The time spent going between stages as well as the short sets each band plays is not for me. I would much rather go to a Grateful Dead concert and get nothing but the good ol' Grateful Dead. This also applies to other acts that I might want to see.

The Telluride Bluegrass festival is still going strong 40+ years and although bigger and better than ever it still has that down low small town vibe. Cheers!

Bourbon & Beyond Louisville, Ky. Has had some hidden gym's in recent years and plenty of bourbon and food. This is more of a main stream music festival but it always sprinkles in some good bluegrass (Billy Strings, and Infamous Stringdusters to name a few) John Mayer, Robert Plant, promise of The Real, Margo Price and others have given the festival some character.

Watkins Glen, '72. The unexpected Friday night sound check was some of the sweetest most laid back jam I've ever heard the band do. Lots of fun despite being quite unprepared. Spent Friday night sleeping in the trunk of a car! Right up there with Barton Hall '77. I was tripping heavily for that and couldn't be sure that it was really as good as it sounded until I heard a recording of it later.

My favorite summer festival is one that features incredibly unique, professional, unsigned, independent artists that truly need a high-quality exposure event to boost their careers to a level so they can earn a decent living performing and recording their musical visions. Not sure that one exists? If it does, please let me know who I can reach out to in order to be considered for a performance slot.

Thank you,
