Jerry was nterviewed at 710 Ashbury, San Francisco, CA by Randy Groeke & Mike Cramer. Date uncertain but probably February or March because it took place when their first album was about to be released (1st album release date was March 17, 1967). Anyway, Groeke was a banjo student of Garcias in the early 60's, when they both lived in the south bay. He and his buddy Cramer simply called Jerry up and arranged to do the interview 'friend to friend'. Besides Jerry and the 2 interviewers, there are bits of Mountain Girl, Bob Weir, Pigpen, and others in the background. Disc I 1. electric banjo, pedal steel guitar, equipment > 4:05 2. Jefferson Airplane, assisting on Surrealistic Pillow> 1:44 3. the San Francisco sound > 2:51 4. Hippies, Grateful Dead view of music> 4:22 5. the Fillmore audiencs > 5:06 6. Newsweek article "Dropouts on a Mission" > 3:02 7.

It is a little peek(peak) into that space & time when the boys were really starting to feel the power but were also so free to express themselves in anyway they chose to. It is a link into Garcia's mind and into the beginning of the whole trip. The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

I have had this for months and first listened to it over the last couple of days. IT WAS REALLY GREAT! My favorite part was when they found out that their equiptment that was stolen from a ware house was located by the SFPD. Kruetzmann's reaction was so stoned and priceless! "AWWWW WOW MAN!!!! GROOOOVY!" It's exciting to listen to Jerry talk about the music at this time because they were just really getting tight. They had so much ahead of them artistically. They were really just about to explode! They had not even played in NYC yet! Anyone that does not have this I would highly recommend it. It's very insightful.
