When Bill Kreutzmann came off the stage at Penn State University’s Bryce Jordan Center after the Change Rocks concert last October, one of the first things he said was, “I couldn’t stop laughing up there… I was just having so much fun!”  When Kreutzmann is laughing, it’s a good bet that his fellow musicians and the audience are in for a good time as well, because that laughter is a product of the delight Bill takes in surprising himself and his partners in the creation of collectively improvised music.  You can look forward to seeing that laughing face a lot in the coming months, most

These are exciting days for Phil Lesh & Friends singer/songwriter/guitarist/keyboardist Jackie Greene. Not only does he have a truckload of dates with that group planned for the spring and summer, but he just released his much-anticipated new album, Giving Up the Ghost (on the 429 label, a subsidiary of Savoy) and will also be playing shows all over with his fine solo band.

RatDog’s genial bassist has come a long way since his days with the London Boy Singers

Just from seeing him onstage with RatDog the past few years, and with Missing Man Formation earlier, I could tell that Robin Sylvester would be a nice guy. He just exudes a certain warmth. He always looks like he’s happy to be onstage, and indeed that is the case.

Rock impresario Bill Graham may be long gone, but his memory and his legacy live on, and the philanthropic organization that bears his name continues to do important work. The Bill Graham Foundation, the group’s web site says, “gives grants primarily in the areas of music, the arts and education, while also supporting social work, environmental protection, and spiritual and compassionate projects in our community. In this spirit, the Bill Graham Foundation seeks to assist those whose needs are oftentimes not served by larger philanthropic organizations.”

Well, another RatDog tour done come and gone (my, oh my!), and once again the feedback from the road was almost unanimously positive. We join RatDog fans everywhere in giving an enthusiastic high-five to Mr. Steve Kimock for filling in beautifully for the still-recuperating Mark Karan on lead guitar. Thanks, Steve! Get well soon, Mark!
