Secretariat and The Dead all in the Same Weekend
This was one helluva weekend. I went up to NYC (from Philly) with some friends (who went to Penn and lived in my building) to see Secretariat, and party w/Fats and friends in Manhattan. After that, either late Saturday or early Sunday we drove down to D.C., hung out with some more friends and then went to RFK stadium. After that it was a blur, I was hot, wasted and fadin' in and out all day. All kinds of crazy sh#t went down. At one point some folks wanted to hand me - hand-over-hand - through the crowd to the stage. It was at that point that I went off into the stands. Still though...it was a great experience. the Dead will always hold a special place in my heart...and to Tinker and Freddy, Fats and the rest of you (you know who you are)...Keep on Truckin' Brad By discounting, segregating, ignoring and classifying a whole group of people, one shall never see its full value. The lumping together, of so many by so few, fosters a generality preventing us from seeing the collective individuality which is the motley, the fabric, that makes society what it is. - R. Bradford (1999)

    An inadvertent first Dead show
Three buddies and I went down to DC to to catch the Allman Brothers. We had heard of the Dead, but had not listened to them. Wet Willie and the A Bros were fantastic, the heat was oppressive, the pot haze was choking us (we weren't aware then), and we actually debated whether or not to stay for the Dead. The whole scene was so different than anything we had seen at Asbury Park or Madison Square Garden shows, we convinced ourselves to stay until midnight (we had to be back for graduation rehearsal at 8 AM Monday morning). What a way to be introduced to the Dead! We were so bummed we had to leave, as it was clear the concert was nowhere near over as we left our seats and headed off to the car. We heard the strains of "Not Fade Away" through the car windows as we pulled out. I remember saying something to the effect of, "They do that tune?" Ah, youth! Sound Check
What a day!! The Allmans came out about an hour before Wet Willie and did a 3 song, half hour sound check, making this longest Dead show ever (I think) even longer than documented.

Dave. People will buy, Dave. They'll sign in from everywhere for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll follow their fingers not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your order screen as innocent as children, longing for the past. "Of course, we won't mind if you shop around", you'll say. "It's only $75 for the box set". They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it, for it is money they have and shows they lack. And they'll bask in the sunshine; wandering through the cosmos on a perfect summer afternoon. They'll find they have perfect sight lines among the general admission faithful, where they danced when they were young. And they'll listen to the release and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will buy, Dave. The one constant through all the years, Dave, has been the Dead. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But the Dead have marked the time. This mindset, this band, this show; it's a part of our past, Dave. It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again. Oh … people will buy, Dave. People will most definitely buy. RIP JPB ... wheel to the storm and fly.

Count me in as buying this on day one! I would also suggest adding in the Watkins Glen sets from The Band and The Allmans to make for a killer Box Set. That should receive a great amount of press (biggest concert ever released!!!) leading to strong sales...regardless, RFK 6-10-73 the most necessary and then the others if doable. Thank you!!!

.... but to do so without the 6/9 show and the Allman's sets would be tragic. I know that requires diplomacy and royalties, but, whatever it takes, please "get your hands out of your pockets"! (same needs to happen with Watkins Glen and also needs to include The Band's contribution, but perhaps that would best be saved for another set)

I concur with the proposal to release this show ASAP (if it’s in The Vault). Incredible show!
