I'm a squeaky new Dead head, just went to my first show, Furthur in Rochester, it was INCREDIBLE, I'm also hoping to go to the one in Lewiston next week but the tickets are sold out. :( If ANYONE has a ticket they would be willing to sell me I would be eternally grateful, I cannot get enough of the scene! ...I just bought a little clip-on L.E.D. light for my home-made song book - I can now read it while around a campfire!!! :) Last weekend I practically climbed into the fire in an attempt to read it. Wow.....what a show they had last night the guys are playin' some amazing music. One long set right through till the end in 95 degree heat and crazy humidity. Nothin' can stop these guys from delivering the music that drives the bus......Wow. When they came to the first notes of Bertha it was pure delight that washed over the crowd then followed by a long jammin' Truckin'. When Wharf Rat started we knew we were in for a treat as John played his heart out and the emotions that waved through the crowd was truly movin' then a playful I Fought The Law to snap us back. I'm sure it was really unusal for them to be playin' away from the usual community that they see in front every night, I'm not sure how many made the trek across the border but i'd say only a hand full. I bet that the guys could tell this was going to be a one time thing where they would stray off the beaten path and it came across in the music. What actually made the show for me was the fact that they came to me....being a Canadian it is standard to go seek the band where ever they go now they were coming to my HOME......A grate night of music, freinds and trips.......makes me want sell the house and buy a bus. What a grate night! The so-hot weather didn't stop everybody to dance their soul out. I was so happy to be there with all the family. My twin daugthers will remember this show forever. They sang and dance all the way. I'm proud we made it all together.They started late and I was worried of the 11 hres curfew. and what they did? One super long set with (almost) no break. Bob and Phil leaded the band in a night of what sound to me a gratest hits show. A la GOGD manner. Hope the problems they had at the border won't stop them to come back around. Next time Montréal? Great reviews, Canuck & Richard. Merci beaucoup!! ArtPark was also an amazing show. I was wondering if they were going to run out of new ideas being the 11th show of the tour, but the repeats were great and they still had some surprises up their sleeves! We camped the night before at Four Mile Creek with Playin and his super cool kid, then brought the jams to ArtPark before the show. We had so many people stop by to say hi cuz they saw our flag... Guelph, Hamilton, Ottawa, Peterborough, London, Toronto, represented! Great jamming with Jordan, Zook and Brooke on banjo - some beautiful acoustic moments to warm up the lot. Swimming in the Niagara River, meeting new folks, singing in multi-part harmony... but wait, there's a show??? Furthur, you guys are fantastic. Thanks for bringing the tight jams, like King Solomon, and sending me to heaven with Crazy Fingers. I was Sittin on Top of the World up on the lawn with all you beautiful dancing heads, overlooking the gorge at sunset. They Love Each Other, Hard To Handle, Dear Prudence, and Mason's! You must have known I was there =). You guys just get better with age. And to all who jammed and camped out, thanks for making the SOntario CanHead convention 2010 a huge success! Hope to see some more of you in Niagara Falls, NY for the Rhythm Devils, Sept 10... (~);)

You know this web-site has introduced me to some amazing people - thanks to the powers that be! Yesterday, I finally came part way down from the high of the show and the entire experience. I have been smiling extra wide for about a week now (passing good vibes onto all coming my way). What a great uplifting and sustained high! I look forward to more jamming with the ArtPark crew in the future. Sadly, my wish to have the ArtPark crew to the cottage/beach I spoke of cannot happen as I'd hoped (the cottage is going to crowded with family over that weekend :( ). Perhaps another opportunity will present itself later. This was a special show for me for many reasons. One being that I brought my son with me (he turned nine on July 13th). This was our first Dad & Son camping experience and his first Rock & Roll show. He had a blast dancing and running around the grass and up and down stairs at the show. The people at the show, as always, were great as were the crew we had around the campfire and in the park. They helped make it what I believe will be a tresured memory for him (will be for me). Oh yah the concert was great too. Show highlights for me were Big River, They Love Each Other, Dark Star and Dear Prudence. (The show while great was only part of the fun, thanks to K and the rest of the assorted and wonderful lunatics) I really enjoyed the night before jamming with K and B (B not C - Sorry B, I`ve got is straight now :) ) and the day after the show jam under the picnic area. At the picnic area we pooled camping resources and made pancakes (with homemade maple syrup - mmmm) and coffee. I think we had 4 acoustic guitars, one acoustic bass :), a drum and some shakers and many voices and spuratic dancing in the rain and trips to the playground (my son and I)). While that whole breakfast jam was great, one highlight was the remarkable harmonizing of the Beatles `Rain`as the rain poured down on all sides of the shelter and we looked out over the grass and the Lake (Awesome - transporting). And oh yah, the pre show jamming, that K referenced, was really great too! Zook was very cool, something about the look in his eye (some sort of prophet I think, or at least turned on to something amazing!) T, my son C thought you were amazing (Where has T*"*" gone he kept asking as you flew off on some adventure) and is looking forward to meeting your daughter. Special hello`s to the Queen of Spain, and the other lovely ladies who graced our presence, and to J (another far out dude), D (Jam on), and all the rest of the crew (you know who you are). K, I think our voices sound great together. We had some great harmonies happening! :) Thanks to all, especially for being so great with my son!!!! Peace, Love and the good things!! I wanted to let you all know that we are hosting a special show on Deadvids.com on Wednesday, November 17th, 2010, from 9:00-11:30pm/ET called My First Grateful Dead Show: International Edition. Each month, Deadvids.com hosts a new series called My First Grateful Dead Show. I host the show and each month a member guest hosts with me and we listen to their very first Grateful Dead show that they attended, and I interview them with 20 questions. During the interview, others that are present can ask additional questions of the guest host. We've been doing this show since late July 2010, and it's been catching on as people get to understand what it's about. We've found it really interesting and inspiring to hear each person's unique journey into this community and how it has impacted their lives. So far, it's always been an American/US-based deadhead that is my guest host, but next month we will have our first "international" guest host - a deadhead from overseas. I can't tell you who, or what show (we try to keep those under wraps until show time), but I would like to invite all of you, US-based and those living outside the US, to please join us! FYI, our guest host will have to be up into the wee hours of their morning to do this show, so perhaps you guys overseas can make a party of it and get together and listen/participate in the discussion that evening, make an all-nighter of it... long time no speak you guys....It has been a long and challenging year for me, many ups and downs and lots of changes. I have come through them and am looking forward to a new and prosperous year ahead. The music has stayed with me all this time and is always a special comforting friend in times of need. Dusting off the old backpack for the upcoming shows in Chicago, it will be and old school type of journey taking the bus and staying in a hostel with some others. I am very excited. Chicago is a great town and 2 nights at the University of Illnois are just gonna rock !!! Hope you all are doing well and hope to meet and see more of you soon. As for you other Canucks, how are you all doing? It's good to hear from you, Chris. I'm glad things are going in the right direction. Things in Peterborough are really good. School is underway and the kiddos and I have set the stage for a great year to unfold. It's going to be another good year for music, too. I'm in the middle of preparing for a reunion show of my first band, Zen Again, a GDead-inspired group. We're playing on Friday, Dec 10th here in Ptbo if any of you wanna come check it out. Then I'm going to ring in the New Year by going on a JamCruise adventure with Bobby, Mickey, Billy & many more amazing artists in January. Hey crew, How are things? In Ontario, this has been a perfect January... back to the super dry cold temperatures we've been missing these last 5 years. It's invigourating and really fun to have lots of snow to play in. Been a great year for weather all around, I'd say. Well, I gotta tell ya that the JamCruise is about the funnest time you might ever wanna have. I've never left our beautiful winter before, but I adapted to the southern sun pretty quick. And shiplife is fine when it's full of costumed, dancing friendly folk. You'd be amazed at how much New Orleans funk is on a "Jam" Cruise. And Bobby, Mickey and Billy were a blast. Bob was sounding pretty good, especially sitting in with Karl Denson's Tiny Universe (with Fred Wesley!) and the Hendrix Tribute (Watchtower). Rhythm Devils delivered some strong sets and the Canadian contingent danced hard on that last night. Mickey's Rhythms of the Universe presentation was interesting, explaining the space sounds we heard on Dead Spring Tour '09, and Billy was having the time of his life chumming with his buddy George and drinking it all in, literally. =) You should definitely consider getting "on the boat" as they say, if you want to not only brush with the stars, but eat, drink and hang with them too. The boat seems big but it's relatively small when you're rooming next to your heroes and chatting in line in the cafeteria. Getting to meet the JB horns was a huge high for me, and standing right next to Billy in the hallway I could hardly move from my spot. So there's your first JC9 report. Back to you, Playin... Jas obrecht review on newJamasutra cd featuring Barry the Fish Melton and Deadicace members First, a quick background check: Barry “The Fish” Melton played lead guitar on the San Francisco scene’s first psychedelic record, and went on to play the Monterey and Woodstock festivals. His new “neo-psychedelic” release with Parisian guitarist/vocalist Stephan Missri and band is, in a word, extraordinary. It’s trippy, politically and socially conscious, and brilliantly played. Deadheads – Garcia freaks in particular – will love Melton and Missri’s flowing solos, epitomized by the Jerry-esque joyride of “Jamasutra Mantra.” Like the early Allman Brothers Band and Steve Hunter-Dick Wagner with Lou Reed, Melton and Missri create intriguing two-guitar interplay without venturing into overkill. They freak-out Hendrix-style on “Vert,” and Barry resurrects his wicked vibrato of yore for “Le Dernier Homme en Ville.” His sea shanty-cum-ecological call to arms “Shady Grove” recalls his Country Joe & The Fish era and then segues into one of the album’s best jams. International feels abound. Algerian-born Missri sings mostly in French, with a smooth, smoky voice. Rhythms and melodies seamlessly embrace rock, blues, psychedelic, Middle Eastern, and African influences. “This was truly a trans-Atlantic effort for me,” says Melton, who’s worked as a public defender in northern California. “Much of my early music was influenced by Middle Eastern music, which becomes immediately apparent were you to see me with Country Joe in the 1967 movie Monterey Pop.” Danish bassist Charles Jannic and French drummer Christophe Rossi excel at everything – hats off to these guys, as well as to Melton and Missri for their fine, fine playing and producing. Hi crew! I hope everyone's doing fine out there... we finally got our first smell of spring here in Peterborough. That gets me thinking about festival time! To all you who have asked about camping/jamming festivals, here's a little to get the conversation started: Come Together Festival May 20th - 22nd, 2011, Grey County (Durham/Markdale), ON This fest is in its 12th year and seems to be a multi-genre camping and jamming fest of mostly Ontario-based acts. I've never been but friends Caution Jam, who are a Dead jamband out of TO have played as well as Days of You, so I'm thinking there is a Dead-related vibe there. http://www.cometogethermusicfest.ca/ Lose Yer Shoes August (2nd weekend?), Huntsville, ON There is no website or official dates yet, but this fest has been going since 2006 and is definitely a Dead-friendly fest. Anyone else have any ideas?

Just a note on the Come Together Festival. I have been a few times but not for a few years, so things may not still be the way they were then. Mark and crew, if they are still running it, put on a great fest. The tone is very laid back, no big coporate sponsors, adequate but not oppressive security. But be warned, while a great show it is not a family venu. It's a great party, with a good deal of imbibing going on. Make sure to stock up on your beverage of choice in advance, because I have seen LCs around some of the venues get sold out with the influx of music lovers. The party goes late every night, the show continuing around campfires once the stage has been emptied. From what I can remember it is a great time. It's just a shame thy don't have it at the ghost town anymore. Greetings from Windsor, ON

Having gone to the Come Together web site (http://cometogethermusicfest.ca) I seee the show is indeed at the Ghost Town. Have a great time all who attend. Just remember to bring warm gear, even that late in May it can still get cold there at night.

Hey gang, Well like the great white polar bear and the golden-minded web-footed worbler I have come out of hibernation. Greetings my fellow travellers....... O.K., another festival worth considering is the Hillside Festival (at Guelph Lake just outside of Guelph). Great music, vibes, kid friendly, enviromentally progressive, and swimming (with suit or without). I took my kids 2 years in a row a couple of years back and wnt with a friend and his daughter - we had a blast. Nice to here about these others - I will need to do some planning soon.... Anyway just heard that Further is touring again. I'm thinking about picking up a couple of lawn tickets for my son and I to go to the Canandaigua, NY show. The closest show (atleast from my reckoning, no GD referrence intended). Is anyone else thinking about or planning to go. I'd love to go but I'll be hosting our own festival in the park on the 23rd with our reggae band, Dub Trinity and many others (in Peterborough). I did see that jam scene veteran Karl Denson will be playing with his Tiny Universe at Hillside this year. Pure funk, so don't miss their show if you're going. They're also playing at Ottawa Bluesfest. I heard them on JamCruise and would love to hear them again anytime.

Hey CanHeads, Remembering that you only live once, or at least for all I know, I just spent some $$ on some great seats, for my son and I, for the Furthur show at Constellation Brands Performing Arts Center in Canandaigua NY on July 26. We would love to meet up with fellow CanHeads while down there for some Jamming before show or at Letchworth State Park before or after show. Mind you the state Park is nowhere near the show (about 1hr20min away), but it looks way too amazing to miss, so we are going to explore it for a few days around the show. I may even have my wife and daughter with us for the camping portions this year, if it all works out. Anyway my son and I had so much fun last year with the crew that showed up during the show, around the show, and around the campground before and after the show that I send this e-mail out in hopes some of you may be heading or end up heading down there for the show. I would love to get in some more jams......last years adventure was such a high point for me....the jamming was the best, especially the amazing jams outside the show before the concert and the massive jam at the campgroud under the shelter during the downpour...unforgetable/priceless....."Ra-a-a-ainnnn I don't mind..........Shi-i-i-ine the weathers fine.........". So perfect......... Either way, may more amazing times come your way this summer....... Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat Oh yah remember July 8, 2010....
