The Light show....
.....from Terrapin thru The Other One was phantastic, perfectly in sync with the band ripping through the thunderous end of Terrapin (which seemed to not want to end) through drums and again perfectly in time with the other one... amazing stuff!God Bless the Grateful Dead!
a great show and then....
I remember after the show that night my friends and I bopped down to the marina and watched the water untill?? They had just built a new area with shops and a boat launch and slips, I remeber us all singing Ship Of Fools as we frolicked back to the car ...Who knew Long Beach was so big...lol
inspiration!
this was the night it hit me... i don't know, maybe it was the size of the puddle.... but something in me changed.... or maybe just woke up.... that night, during terappin, on the note of the "inspiration".... like a bolt of lightning, it hit me.... i got it. and got on the bus. took me long enough!
I'm kind of of the same mind with this show.
My first three shows were East Coast stadium shows. Then I did Irvine and one Ventura show, but with this Long Beach run I finally stopped feeling like an outsider and realized that I was a regular.
The energy was so on!
The energy was so on! Played ONE song on someones guitar all night long after the last show of this run!!! Was this the last nights show? The whole weekend was momentous! Wow! Crazy times!!! :)
Are you kind?
Magical story about thhis night.
On this night it was my birthday. After the show I headed to "shakedown" and as I was walking around, I happened to look down. I saw what looked like a laminate. Sure as shit it was! It was a laminate for the Fall/Winter 1988 tour. I didn't know what to think or do, so i pocketed it to sort it out. I come to find out that it's real. I took it home and planned how i'd use it. The next shows were the New Years run in Oakland. The first night of Oakland I used the pass to walk in for free! A smarter person may have left well enough alone and used this laminate to get into all the shows for free...but not me. As the lights dimmed for that 1st night in Oakland, Bobby, Phil, Brent,Mickey and Bill walk by me, headed up the stairs to get on stage. The sign on the wall read, Only persons with laminates allowed onstage.I followed the boys onstage! They started rockin' an Iko. Wholly shit, i'm onstage with the Dead. What a night. I'll finish the story on the reveiw of the 1st night Oakland dec. 88
theres a first time for everything
I just ran away from a really crazy cultish rehab place called pheonix house. I was eighteen. I accidentally find this show and my outlook on life has never been the same. I am forever endebted to the wonderfull people at the shows! I can still remember sitting in the parking lot enjoying all you weirdos walking around.
Shakedown Street
This was my very first time amongst deadheads. Made a trip up to Long Beach to buy Sudan Delivery. I started reading Carlos Casenada's books on The Yakui Indians in N Mexico and their ways to acquire knowledge via certain medicinal options left by the Great Spirit. Mine turned out to be some other mind bending wonderful thing that I could never imagined, the other variety that grows in pastures green or wooded. What a scary wonderful evening that I'll never forget!
