I can burn you a copy from mine.

Also, I would love for Heads to check out my first book, Drunk On Sunday.
There is a lot of GD in it and photo from Bob Minkin of my first show 9/18/87

I have an idea for an art project and I am wondering where is the best place to ask for tape covers with hand written set lists and / or cool drawings that aren't being used. I would 100% pay for shipping.

It was always frowned on to sell the tapes, to put it no more strongly. However, Jerry's been gone these 25 years, and a lot of once-precious tape collections, by inheritance or general attrition, have ended up in the hands of people who aren't in Deadhead culture and can't reasonably be expected to operate based on it. I'm more startled that she found someone to pay money for it, given how often Heads are offering up their tapes for free after they've gone digital, and on this very site too.

Is there a policy against selling tapes? I have seen a couple of collections show up on CL and this week there is an extensive collection in an estate sale in Massachusetts.
I contacted the CL person and asked them not to sell but to offer up as free. They were nice and had some rosy BS to say about her parents giving her the tapes but she didnt want any more and was selling them. Alas, she did.
Being of the trading era i think its wrong to sell them and there may be an official dead policy or a place to report?

I've got a raft of tapes but no way to copy 'em any more. I got a used D6 off of ebay just so I could play 'em and put 'em into iTunes, but I haven't gotten around to it. And I'm completely mystified by how all this is done on the net, like downloading entire (noncommercial) shows and stuff. I look at the sites, find the show I want sometimes, and then my brain glazes over. Maybe when the dust settles we can have a Downloading for Old School Folks tutorial topic. The commercial sites I understand fine; the trading sites are over my head completely.

I know how ya feel. Heck, I don't even have my car anymore. I'm just walkin around with my walkman. I've been looking for people to trade tapes with also. I have about 170 GD shows on tape and cd. If you would be interested in some trades I could put whatever onto tapes for you? Let me know. Rock on.-Hunter newcamptownraces@yahoo.com "The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean."

I have a decent AUD CD and cassette of 6/27/87 and a not so great copy of 6/26/87 set II on cassette. If anyone has or knows someone who has nice crisp AUDs or SBDs of Alpine Valley 6/28-29/86 and 6/26-28/87, especially the 87 shows, please send me a personal message or circulate them. These are at the very top of my wish list.

The most beautiful woman will LOVE me if I can get copies of Denver, Nov. 29, 30, Dec. 1, 1994 and RFK 6/24 & 25, 1995 -- her first and last shows. I have lots of killer '80's tapes and cd's to trade. Searching for Alpine '87 -- I was there and have tapes somewhere. Killer shows!

Howdy folks--I haven't been on here in a couple of years...it looks a lot different now and I can't find a specific site for a "miracle" offering, so I'll do this here... I've been organizing some discs and have a stack I'd like to give away to someone who would enjoy them. The first person to post expressing interest gets the following: Phil & Friends 2/12/05 "The Dead" - 8/10/03 "The Dead" - 9/19/03 Yonder Mountain String Band - 4/10/02 SHN format of 8/23/87 GD, Disc 1 A couple of random techno discs 2-disc set of Nektar, a trippy 70s German prog rock band I know some of the stuff is random, but once in a while you can get shown the light.. ;^) Anyway, first person to post gets all of these!

I would love to have a copy of that show from Bucknell Univ., I'm new to this on-line trading thing, plus I've lost most of my tapes and only have a few CD's?? Not sure what to do??

I can concur with those who got into tape trading way back when and missed the digital bus. I have over 1500+ hours of casettes and very few CDs. I have an excellent program for my iMAC called Audicity which takes my analog signal and stores it digitally and thus I can burn etc... I just dont have time to do it..."Life happens when your busy making plans"....Eric

Hey now, new to this forum, fortunately was able to trade up from my wall of tapes to a wall of cds. Looking for some new friends to do some trade with. Here is my list of shows: http://johndcoyle.googlepages.com/home I have actually received a bunch of new stuff, and have to get around to posting it... Cd for Cd trades, or Cd for blanks for those looking to get started. Drop me a line and let me know. Note that the list includes some official releases, which I will not copy/trade and are only listed there to fill out the date ranges.

Been collecting shows for 25 years. I've never seen soundboards of Alpine Valley 1986 or 1987. Making the switch over to CD is not that difficult. I had to leave behind over 1000 cassettes in a storage facility in Lancaster, California a few years ago. I've easily amassed that many shows on CD in that time, and they're all better quality than I would have gotten if I'd converted my own cassettes to CD. There is a VERY devoted group of folks that are converting the best quality recordings of shows to CD. You can find the results of their efforts at various downlaod sites, such as bt.etree.org and www.shnflac.net. Excellent quality audience recordings can still be downloaded at www.archive.org. As with anything worthwhile, it's worth the effort to grow and learn something new. By embracing the downloading process and sile sharing over the internet via bit-torrent, I've acquired more music than I could have ever amassed when trading via snail mail in the 80's. I haven't shut the door on trading via snail mail, but the internet has opened a lot of doors. Hope everybody is well! Sean K.

I also have never seen any 1987 Alpine soundboards circulate and have only seen 6/28/86 set 1 as a soundboard which I have had on cassette from years ago though no less than a 4th or 5th generation. To me these seem like The Holy Grail of Grateful Dead recordings coming from one of the most popular venues during the one of the most popular eras. Someone somewhere is sitting on great copies or masters of these shows and they seem to remain mysteriously uncirculated. Here are the setlists. 06-28-86 Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, Wi. (Sat) 1: Bucket, Ramble On, C. C. Rider, Row Jimmy, BIODTL> Touch, L. L. Rain, Don't Ease 2: Playin> Uncle John> Drumz> China Doll> Playin> GDTRFB> Lovelight E: Saturday Night> Baby Blue 06-29-86 Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, Wi. (Sun) 1: Half Step> Franklin's> Dancin, B. E. Women, Minglewood, Tom Thumb Blues, Stagger Lee, Samson 2: Shakedown, Estimated> Eyes> Drumz> Other One> Wharf Rat> Throwing Stones> NFA E: NFA> U. S. Blues 06-26-87 Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, Wi. (Fri) 1: Stranger> Franklin's, Walking Blues, Row Jimmy, Tons Of Steel, Push, Cassidy, Deal 2: China Cat> I Know You Rider, Estimated> Eyes> Drumz> Gimme Some Lovin> Wheel> Watchtower> Black Peter> Around> Sugar Magnolia E: Touch 06-27-87 Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, Wi. Came home from a vacation and found our water heater had rusted out and hence my racks of tapes were all in jepordy from the laughing water. I lost one show from 95 and a couple Santana shows but my biggest loss was the rack holding my GD shows from 88-90. They went swimming. :( I traded tapes from 87-97 and never got into the digital realm. I had over 1200 tapes which is now 100+ tapes less. I've since started a family and have no time to trade. If you have CDs of any GD show from from 88-90 and would consider working something out, please let me know. Eric

Hey everyone, i was just listening to dicks picks 24, and i was looking online somewhere and saw that there are a few classic songs that someone decided not to include in the official cd release. Some of the songs are El Paso, Ship of Fools, etc. I was just wondering if anyone had a tape or some other media that i could get a copy of that had the whole show or missing tracks off of it. Its the 3/23/74 show at the Cow Palace, the debut of the wall of sound. I'd just really like to hear those missing tracks, so if anyone could help me out i'd be estactic. thanks, peace.

I used to have a tape, or I think I had a tape that started out a second set with sounds of a motorcycle being started up, with a women's voice saying "oh is that good", and then it breaks into hell in a bucket, scarlet fire I think. Does this sound right to anyone?. It was a really good set as I think I can remember, but I lost the tape and I can't remember when and where it was from. Any info? I would say it was from the mid to late eighties?

Need the DVD. I suppose I could join the various tape-trading sites, learn the ropes, and the learning curve. I suppose I could spend the time to learn all about the minutae of "seeds", "leeches", and "vines". Sigh.... I'm hoping there is an easier way. Anyone out there got this?
