This was my first show. The
This was my first show. The dad of one of my friends (7th grade!) was somehow involved with management at CapCentre, and thought it'd be cool to get us girls in for the show. I wish I remembered any of it, except for knowing that I was there.
This was a rockin' show!
Though this was probably the third best out of the three nights in a row before they went to Europe, it was a rockin' show. If you like to hear the dead just rip it up with mostly high energy rockin' stuff then this is the show for you. Loved the Cap Center, Oh, lost again. lol

Show #5
I saw the Rolling Stones at JFK the day before and was returning to school in Danville that night after the show. What a weekend road trip for a college kid. Lots of bolagna and cheese sandwiches, beer, and energy. Got back to school at 9:00am for the 9:10 class on Monday morning. The band and scene continued too snowball into my life. The Stones party was bigger, but the Deads party was better. I was running into old High School friends, (I'm from Virginia outside the DC area) getting into the same thing. "Something is happening here, but I don't know what it is....."
This was my first show and I
This was my first show and I just kept going back to see them when ever I could until the last tour of 1995. I miss jerry. Anyway I enjoyed it very much. I have a kick ass quality CD of the show so I can go back anytime I want and remember. Good stuff.
my first show also
my first show. the place was just swirling lights, mad rumbles and odd rhythms to me. think i recognized mexicali blues from skeletons from the closet.. also, my first concert of any kind. 150 shows later and 15 years later, it was the correct choice.
First Grateful Dead Roadtrip
Took off in a VW microbus -with 5 friends from Ferrum College -a keg of beer and enough phenethylamines to determine that the" Dead" experience was crucial. When the band started playing Truckin' I think the entire universe smiled from right there in PG county Md. all the way back to the blue ridge mountains.
my first show as well
hitchiked down from philadelphia ,got dosed ,mad fun dancing in the hallways.Saw the Stones the day before in philly ,not nearly the sense of brotherhood ,that deadheads showered me with.
99 children had a chance to go
I remember in the parking lot after the show there were those headed home and those off to Europe. Sadly, I was headed back to New Jersey. A month later Jerry Band was at The Tower for Halloween though, but we can't talk about Jerry Band here, can we?
My 1st. and only Dead show
I was due to leave Scotland to visit relatives in Virginia USA when I noticed in the local press that the Dead were coming to Edinburgh in Scotland on September 30th 1981. I was so annoyed that I would miss this very rare Scottish date, but when I arrived in the USA I couldn't believe my luck that they were playing their last American date at the Capital Centre on the 27th September before heading for Scotland. I managed to get tickets and attended what has to be one of the greatest experiences of my life.
forget the dead you've left, they will not follow u
Went to see the stones on Saturday at the old JFK. It was ok but it was a stop along the way before the main event. When I arrived at the Cap Center I found out the song lists from the previous two nights and was glad to hear that Baby Blue wasn't played. Jack Straw and Sailor/Saint were sweet. The Roses was a pleasant surprise. Enjoyed the entire second set and looked foward to the Baby Blue encore. Thanks again GD. Saw Elliot after the show and haven't seen him since-
anyone remember?
That 'Spanish Jam??' This was my 3rd show and I'd never heard a jam with such *urgency*!! For a 16-year old with a head full of fungus it was too good.
"you should have been in Buffalo last night"
But I didn't have a ticket, nor could I have gotten there. Boy were those comments annoying.
My first show . . . memory…
My first show . . . memory is hazy but, looking back, what a great setlist!! :-b
