I tuned into one recently (on KBCS, from Bellevue, WA - which also runs a show called "Back Tracks" that plays mostly GD) and I got to hear that symphonic Dead! Great interview followed and the MSG show in the first half hour was great quality radio.
I'm just a, well...porpoise.

Hey there Dave. I was just listening to an old GD hour show where you talked with Ken Nordine about the New Years show 1990. Sounded like a great time, bungie jumpers and all! What a cool interview. He seems like an interesting guy!Anyway, I saw your show at the Vibes in 2005 and enjoyed it so much a bought a copy there that weekend. Is there any place I can get the setlist for that show? Some of the songs are foriegn to me. Rock on!

DavidI still have the analog tape of the GD Hour you did right after Jerry died.
It opened with Jerry singing, "Louis Collins" and we were all in tears.
It had been about a week and a half from the death to the GD Hour Broadcast.
That song and version remain marked in my mind for all eternity.
You gave a great small mini eulogy that I will never forget.
The rest of the mix was pretty moving as well (Death from Shoreline, Attics from 74 rehersal)
Anywho, thanks for all you have done, and all you do, with your talents and initatives, to make sure, the Music Never Stops.
Cheers!

Hope to see ya at the Ledges David!
David, good to see you are one of the first posters here on this 'new' site. Hoping to see you at the Ledges this year, I always enjoy your sets (although I cringe when you rap about your politics, you should leave that offstage IMO). I'd love to see you as the official MC at the Ledges, course that would be a 4 day commitment!
Thanks for all you do to keep the music alive, I hear you here in Baltimore on WTMD commercial free! Anyway c-ya at the Ledges. I love DSO but I'm coming for You, Cornmeal and Boombox!! LOL PEACE!!
No Dave, Thank You!!
And thanks for the heads up!!!!Take care.
Cheers!

More Dead Less Ratdog
David, I love and appreciate all you do and have done for us over the years. If you recall, I came to your defense when some criticized you regarding the decision to remove the sdb's last year. I love your blog and your respect for and appreciation of the Dead's music and the entire scene. I look forward to and support with donations the GD Hour on Friday nights here in NYC on Fordham's radio station.
However, I have one gripe. It is the Grateful Dead Hour, not the Ratdog Hour. I do not know if I am the only one who feels this way, but I want to hear predominately (I agree not exclusively, I enjoy the occassional other music you provide) Grateful Dead music. While I recognize Bobby is doing great things with Ratdog, I tune in for the Grateful Dead. If I want to hear Ratdog I can go see them.
Thanks for listening and I miss Jerry.
I appreciate your
I appreciate your perspective, but of course yours is only one of many.
The mission of this program from the beginning has been to explore "the wide musical world of the Grateful Dead." I think it's important to cover what's going on today as well as what's great in the archive. Ratdog is sounding great these days, and they are happy to have their music featured on the radio, so I'm going to keep playing their stuff.
You're still getting plenty of unreleased archival Grateful Dead - we're about to get started on the complete 4/15/89, spread out over several weeks of course.

Favorite Radio Show (ever)
Inspirationally touching is how I would describe how it feels for me to listen to your show. I am still buying cassettes to record the Dead Hour onto (I only have a tape player in my car.)
You always seem to play real gems that spark an attentive ear. I appreciate your wide range of "Grateful Dead related Music." I find myself repeatedly enjoying new music you introduced into my life. Thanks for all you time and energy.
Interviews are also interesting, very whole for such a short show.
I am grateful to listen from the Lou on KDHX 88.1 Saturdays at 10 pm Central. And then anytime I want, if I was home to record...............
Thank you David!
I saw my first show in Phoenix 3-5-94 (age 15), and was totally hooked- If that wasn't enough, I taped the next Dead hour which happened to be the Playin'>Uncle John's>Jam from Oakland 12-18-93... To this day one of the finest pieces of music I've ever heard, Dead or otherwise. I think I taped nearly every Dead hour for the next five years. I still have all those tapes.Thank you David, I can't even begin to describe how much your show meant to me!

I was listening to the GDH
I was listening to the GDH on XM last night and I thought it was supposed to be show number 980 last night[week of 7/2]but it was 979[wasn't any Dead on last nights show which was disappointing]weird that XM's a week off.

Old GD Hour podcast on DeadNet
The beautiful new DeadNet today introduces a new weekly feature: podcasts from the Grateful Dead Hour archive.
Analise Dubner created a beautiful image for the landing page.
First up is program #793, the first of a four-part series featuring an interview with Steve Parish on the occasion of the publication of his memoir, Home Before Daylight.
There will be a place for comments and requests - I'll be very happy to get input on which programs from GD Hour history you'd like to hear. You can search the GD Hour log archive here and/or here.

I heard last night that XM
I heard last night that XM won't be carrying the Grateful Dead Hour anymore......taking it away from XM was a boneheaded move imho. Whoever made the decision to move it needs to rethink that idiotic decision imho.
Sorry about that.
Taking the GD Hour off XM was part of the deal Rhino made with Sirius. I had no say in the matter.
I'm sorry to have abandoned you over there, but it appears the two satellite services will merge before too long and then we'll all be together in the stratosphere.

Download or Stream? Not so merrily ...!!
Hello David,
I can't thank you enough for all the deadication you've shown these past decades with the GD Hour and books and music ...
I'm a fan!!
So, what's up with the GD Hour podcast? Is it now a thing of the past after it barely got started? I was so happy that I could finally(?) give up all of the cassettes that have piled up over the years in place of these digital files. There are some pretty ugly things being written over on the taper's section ... And there has been no clear answer as to whether or not this is a policy change with the site or simply a technical glitch due to the new streaming software.
Do you have any answers? Any light you can shed on this situation would be greatly appreciated.
Either way, keep up the great work!
We'll know more soon
I'm in New Jersey mixing a CD this week, and I found out about this change Monday morning, the same time everyone else did. I don't have a lot of information at the moment, and it's not my place to make a public statement about it in any case, but I can assure you it's a good deal more complicated than it might appear.
I've been working with these people at Rhino and the new DeadNet for several months, and I believe they have great respect for the music and the community. It hurts me to read the violent and venomous posts I've seen from some people in these pages, although I can understand why folks are upset. I agree that it's a bummer the change was made abruptly and without explanation, but I trust that there is a reasonable explanation and we'll hear it soon.

Keep it up and keep it spinning, Dave.
You and I are quite aware that longevity, necessitates that patience becomes a second natured virtue.
I'm glad I have all the wacky tunege one man needs on them 10 inchers that I can throw on the ol' 3340S there over my left shoulder when things get goofy in the ionosphere, or the new fangled fobs and knobs of today hit the rough patches in Glitch Road.
And in closing: I know you don't need to hear this, but much appreciation for this... here.

Twilight Zone or What??
Thanks for your quick reply David ...
I'm actually stunned by the sense of entitlement and all of the negativity ... the "All or Nothing" attitudes that have surfaced on the tapers section posts. It is interesting that some of the most venemous postings are from people stating that this goes against everything that this community stands for ... well, so do the assumptions, ultimatums and personal attacks that comprise these posts. It has been encouraging to also see some cooler heads prevail (such as yours). I guess it's natural to "assume" cause and effect, when a change w/no explanation occurs. ... I couldn't help but think of an old Twilight Zone episode ... life imitates art and vice versa!
Oh My God!! I only have a closet full of GD CDs and Cassettes !!! ... I guess I'll continue to listen to 'em while I await another official release to purchase!!!
Thanks again.
KGNU Boulder/Denver Sponsors Deadhead Party in Denver
From Tie Dyes to Ties and Back: A Denver Grateful Dead Party for KGNU's $1390 for 1390 campaign!
Hi all,
I'm a Denver Deadhead who wears a tie to work but still has tie dyes in my closet... I'm also a Board member on KGNU. We host the Grateful Dead hour each Saturday at 7:00 pm (hear us anywhere at www.kgnu.org, 88.5FM Boulder, 1390 AM Denver). Our recent expansion into Denver inspires this party! And by the way, we'll have a six-hour Dead special during our membership drive Saturday evening, October 20.
So come to my party to meet local Deadheads, learn about KGNU and the Dead, enjoy some microbrews, finger foods and a special brew from Amsterdam. I'll even cut off your tie if you'd like. My whole family room will have rare Dead artwork on the walls. Bring your favorite noncommercial Dead concert recordings so we can put together a collection of 20 Dead CDs for anyone who pledges their support for the $1390 for 1390 campaign (that's $58/month over two years). Bring a towel for a dip in our 8-person hot tub after dusk.
Thursday, October 25 56:30-8:30 pm in southwest Denver. Phone 303-895-5937 or email deadhead@kgnu.org to reserve your space and for directions.

GDH #1000!
It's coming up here soon. What can we expect? Spill the beans, man (<;) C'mon! What special treats are in store with this momentous installment?
Yes, it's just a big round number- but we love big round numbers!
The first GDH w/ 4 digits.................... EVER!
So...........................?
Show #1000
I'm still working on the plan for #1000.
Program #999 will be a sampling of CD projects I've had the privilege of working on - GD and Garcia boxed sets, the Persuasions' GD album, etc.
Program #1000 will include a wonderful interview with Mickey Hart, talking about the early days of GD music. Not sure what else yet.

Dead Air on WNCW 88.7FM/www.wncw.org
Greetings from Spindale, NC (Hub of the Known Universe),
I couldn't help but notice that A) WNCW's long-running, locally-produced, Wednesday night Grateful Dead music program (also named Dead Air, oddly enough) doesn't seem to be represented on the Grateful Dead radio forums and B) since I don't seem to be able to create a new forum (can someone contact me on how rectify that?), I'm hopeful our friend David Gans won't mind me intruding upon his forum to mention its existence and our upcoming pledge drive.
As WNCW's General Manager, I feel a "slight" obligation to do so. Please forgive me.
WNCW's Wednesday night GD programming kicks off at 9PM Eastern with David's The Grateful Dead Hour, which leads into four hours (10PM - 2AM Thursday) of Dead Air with longtime host, Uncle Dave, bringing you the finest Dead he can lay his hands on, as well as music from other bands that keep the spirit of the Dead alive.
If I was to lead you to believe that my posting of this information had nothing to do with the fact that WNCW's Spring on-air/online pledge drive starts next Sunday morning (and runs through Saturday, April 5th), I'd be lying. WNCW is proud to keep the music of the Dead on its airwaves (and streaming online) and looks forward to the enthusiastic support of Grateful Dead fans worldwide. We hope you'll tune in weekly and show your support of not only David Gans' Grateful Dead Hour, but also the four hours of Grateful Dead music (Dead Air) that follow. Whether you pledge online at http://secure.publicbroadcasting.net/wncw/pledge.pledgemain or give us a call between 3/31 and 4/5 at (800) 245-8870, we'd love to add your name to the growing list of those who support WNCW and hope to keep the music of the Grateful Dead - and the music they spawned - alive and well both on-the-air and online.
Thank you for the opportunity to bring this to your attention. We now return you to your regularly scheduled forum postings, which are already in progress.

Hey !
I was listening via KBCS (91.3fm in Seattle area) and heard the recent Bob/Phil/Mickey show. Your audience copy was a bit better than the one I found and I wanted to thank you for airing that.
Politics, shmolitics, they played some really wonderful music that night.
