    Brain melt............
Dead center, on the floor, about 30 feet back from stage. We had been to many shows before but this blew us away. One of the best I ever saw! Doc G

The two nights at Augusta are some of my favorite show memories, was a little claustrophobic though, and I must say that I really liked those days of the smaller venues with all my good friends who made touring so fun and yet the best was on the way

    Too many memories to post...
Augusta felt like a tipping point... The scene outside was on the edge of losing control, the tapers were getting more arrogant, the overall energy was off the charts and the boys really brought it. Even though he looked like death, Jerry was a monster. Best two show run I saw for sure.

Certainly in the top 5 of 100 shows that I saw. Very small venue, I think about 8,000 or so. Both sets just smokin, with about the best "unpredictable" set list ever. If you don't have a tape of Set 2, get it!

Very small venue, general admission, just how we like it. I walked in and was almost right in front of the stage. I remember a bolt of electricity going through me when Garcia looked right at me over the top of his rose color glasses during Must Have Been the Roses...Flashed! The second set absolutely smoked. When a set opens with Cold Rain and Snow and closed with Morning Dew, well, say no more! During that show I made up my mind to quit my crappy job and find one I liked…a moment of clarity during a crazy Dead show. After the show we tried to find a cabin that some girls my friend knew were staying at in Damarscotta, Maine on Lake Pemaquid. The directions were something like “head into town, take a left over a small bridge, look for the tree with red paint on it and take right”. Well, we actually found a tree with red paint on it and took a right. No road, just drove between the trees…and the directions were right! We found the cabin, and some very surprised girls, at about 2 am. I think we freaked them out!

I went to this show not really knowing much about the Dead - I had listened to American Beauty and Bear's Choice a handful of times, and that was about it. I made the hour's drive north up to Augusta with my brother and a couple of buddies of mine (the two buddies, one guy and one girl, wound up hooking up with eachother and never made it into the show - they just dove into a tent outside and that was it - hope they had fun, cause they missed a hell of a show! Only after attending many shows (I saw about 50 in all) did I begin to appreciate how good this show was - the opening Stranger was really tight, and it set the tone for things to come - the second set just absolutely smokes from beginning to end! I've listened to this show many times on tape and it still gives me goosebumps - couldn't have asked for a better introduction to the band!

I dropped out of Boston University the day before this show. My friend Matt and I took a train across Boston to get to I 95 so we could hitch hike to the show. Little did we know we had to cross this crazy bridge that did not have a walkway or breakdown lane. We almost went over the side many times while crossing the bridge but when we got to the otherside we were still not at I 95 and no one would give us a ride. Just as we were feeling defeated and depressed my friend Matt looked down and spotted a new bandana on the side of the highway and put it on and said our luck would change. About a minute later a van full of heads stopped and gave us a ride right to the show. The second night was the better of the 2 shows but both were great and well worth the TRIP.

This is one of my favorite first sets of all the shows I saw - great songs and amazing energy! I was on the floor and loved it!!

The one of the things I remember about these shows was the reaction from the crowd as we were leaving the arena. First night was "wow" the second night was "What just happened in there." Second set of the second night is the gem but the two shows as a whole are just classics that should become a "DAVES PICKS"

I caught every show I possibly could and always made an extra effort to catch the first time they rolled into a place. I remember the town folk sitting in lawn chairs watching with stunned amazement as we rolled by waving in our Dead-mobiles quite clearly. Semichill said it there was magic in the air that night. It was my good fortune to run into a friend at the venue who brought me to a catwalk high above where I enjoyed the show so much. The side-doors got opened and from my pitch I saw a fresh sea of happy head flowing in like when the Mississippi river flows into the Gulf. Morning Dew was incredibly emotionally powerful there was so much smoke in the air it added to the dreamlike quality. Driving back south I stopped in Ogunquit for sunrise with the echos of Dew in my head and positive energy everyone gave that night spinning through my soul. Miss ya Jerry- Hey Musicians over 40 please go get a check-up once a year! Jerry would still be with us if he did.

Went to this show was going to UMO in Orono. I was at the show the night before and just took a ride down for night two to meet a friend coming from UNH. Didn't have a ticket but right as the Dead went on a bunch of people stormed the gold ticket entrance so I ran and was one of the last ones in before they stopped it. Great show especially the second set. One of my favorite dead shows I saw 41.

I lived in Maine fall of 1969. After Christmas break I returned from my first Dead show at the Fillmore with a copy of the newly released Live/Dead. I didn't last out January only to return to southern New England. The rest is history. Too irascable for the east in general. Fast forward to Mexico City March 1993. An audience copy of this show, a copy of 2/18/71 and a bootleg VHS of Sunshine Daydream wound up in the holds of the D.F. Distrito Policia. Most likely to be used in the class room setting of Police Academy. All the rumors of "Los Hippies Fantasticos" were verified and way more.

One of the top 10 I attended, maybe top 5. Jerry was looking rough but they brought the goods this beautiful Autumn evening in Maine.
