Okay, folks, here's the plan as we roll over into the next stage of vining. Each vine will have its own topic. As has been noted once or twice before, Iz and I are the only ones who can start topics. Hence, if somebody has a vine they want to start, post the particulars here. Then Iz or I will cruise by, start the new topic, and delete the post from the New Vines area so it doesn't get unwieldy. We'll see how this goes...

We have here the complete 3 night run from Cal Expo August 4th, 5th, and 6th, 1989.Very nice shows. Opening night saw 21 songs performed and an 11-song 1st set- I haven't checked the statistics, but that's rare for 1989 ! 6 discs in FLAC format. All files have been Charlie Millerized, which means they are good. Thank you Charlie. I don't know you, but I am your brother. ........as is the Birdsong and and the Help/Slip/Frank on WAN is from 30th I had wondered about that. I don't really want to vine those shows with those tracks missing for two reasons. a) I count Without a Net as a compilation not an incomplete show and b) I discovered that Without a Net is not actually available in the store here! Based on that I had decided to proceed. If Marye wants to adjudicate I will proceed accordingly!

I appreciate the explanation...makes more sense now. To be honest, I've never had a problem downloading from archive.org...shows usually take 10-15 mins, some as fast as 3-4. Spring Ratdog shows this year have been lacking on archive.org and sugarmegs. Trying to figure out how I can convert .flac, .shn and .wma files to .mp3 just so i can burn them and add to my archive. Thanks again for the help ..even a blind man knows when the sun is shinin'...you can feel it!..

not having heard of Red Robin/Parrot before, I did a little googling, and let's just say I have the sense that this is such a contentious legal nightmare at the present time that I don't want to go there. The Vineyard exists and survives because we don't vine commercial releases. Bootleg commercial releases add a layer of legal murk, but I don't want to jeopardize our little vining scene by setting this one up. I cordially invite the more knowledgeable to point out possibly vineable sources for the same material. Thanks for understanding.

I know this is the Vine thread, but I am looking for the SB of the Sunday Nassau show that is streaming at the archive. Does anyone have it? I can B & P or have TONS of GD and other bands to trade Ross

Sorry everyone, Ive never really thought of it as a commercial release. Not wanting to jeopardize anything here. It would be great if you could do that Bob. "You know the one thing we need is a left handed monkey wrench....."

This vine has 11 discs, 8 different artists, some are SDB, most are audience recordings, some are collaborators with members of the Grateful Dead, and one is a mystic who was admired by the band (and received a dedication of 'He's Gone' at one of the Dead's shows.) No, Bob I'm just kiddin' about that. But a couple months ago MOTB wizards started working on my tapes of 4 shows from 'from back in the day', including that 7-8-78 show. I was road-tripping and hauling around my Nak 550 into shows and I was lucky enough to tape 2-3-78, 7-5-78 and 7-7/8-78. And soon MOTB will seed all 4 on etree. So, to go along with the Dead's maiden Red Rocks voyage (enhanced by the sonic sorcerers at MOTB) as well as the Omaha '78 show (and there is NO soundboard in the vault on this one) along that Madison '78 show (that one is a DP, but this is that entire show). So anyway, you old tapers out there, look through your old master cassettes, you might find a treasure there and then get in touch with wwwmotb.org. who caon bring it back to life, so we can pass it along! Take care, Tim

Mary, Unable to post in the Carrier Dome Vine. What a funny bunch of words together, if I wasn't here I would not know what this is. Carrier Dome Vine. Merriweather Post Vine. A grape vine on a post on a sunny day. Curious how we get to know the names of all these halls, domes, stadiums, ballrooms over the years. If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. William Blake

Hi folks--to no one's great surprise this topic is getting pretty large, almost entirely from now-obsolete information. Sometime in the next couple of weeks I'm going to go in and pretty much clear out the backlog of proposed vines and chitchat so there's not as much to wade through for new ones. Therefore, if you're attached to any of the aforementioned proposed vines and chitchat (in this topic--the topics in the Vineyard stay there!) make your archival copies now. Thank you!

I'd really like to see a vine for some or all of the 4 1975 shows started. Does anyone have these? "You know the one thing we need is a left handed monkey wrench....."

Notes -- d2t04 - "King Solomon's Marbles" as listed is based on the sub-track titles from the CD version of "Blues For Allah", but just tracked here as one song. Title listings of this instrumental found on both commercial releases and legally traded sources are, to say the least, inconsistent. Whatever the case, we reckoned it was paramount to continue the tradition of inconsistency. Taper Talk -- According to Bob Menke, "It was an overcast day and we got there early. About 8:30 in the morning. That is how we ended up about 10-15 feet from the stage. The mics were mounted on broom sticks (handheld) and they were split about 20 feet apart. The upfront vocals I believe are the product of a small (relative to PA speakers) speaker on the floor of the stage next to the right PA column. The vocals seem to be blasting from that speaker. Another very intersting point is the fact that the Jefferson Starship opened and their sound from the same PA absolutely sucked. Nothing approaching the clarity and sound quality the Dead got from the same system." 1) That Nice Hippy Guy 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) 8) 9) 10)

Can anyone reseed cal expo 5-20-92? Someone in the tape trading topic was asking about it and it sounds like a show that I would like to have also. Apparently it was a vine before I came along, im not really sure. Thanks, Trevor "You know the one thing we need is a left handed monkey wrench....."

I know we're well past February - but I always had this tape, labeled "Valentine's Day Dead" - 2-14-70 that I always loved - And I also have 2-14-68 & 2-15-68, which are not uncommon - so I wasn't sure if anyone would actually be interested in a vine like this - or if one was already circulating - but given the propensity of alot of folks to sign-up and then abscond, I'm thinking the more seeds we plant, the more might grow. You absconders ... You know who you are - and we know who you are - and we'd welcome you back if you'd only forward on what you've received to the next in line. Oh well - here's what I'm thinking of - maybe it's already out there - but I will offer it up, if there's any interest - and we'll keep an eye on past absconders who sign up for new vines while killing old ones - you know who you are - Absconder! Anyway - If we do this vine, it has to be called "Valentine's Day Dead" - and I'll put it on a DVD (flac and shn content) - the people on the vine can decide if they need to convert to audio discs - because it's like 8 audio discs vs. 1 dvd, so I'm fine with putting it out - but the first person who signs up needs to be able to handle a DATA DVD & convert Flac & SHN down to WAV (I'll double check before sending) Grateful Dead - February 14, 1968 Carousel Ballroom - San Francisco, CA Recording Info: SBD -> (8 Track) Master Reel -> Dat -> CD -> FLAC Transfer Info: FLAC -> Samplitude Professional v10.02 -> FLAC (2 Discs Audio / 2 Discs FLAC) Transferred and Remastered By Charlie Miller Alligator Jam Patch Info: 5:43 - 5:59 Patched with 1st Gen FM Reel 5:59 - 6:55 Patched with Anthem Of The Sun Set 1: d1t01 - Morning Dew d1t02 - Good Morning Little Schoolgirl d1t03 - Dark Star -> d1t04 - China Cat Sunflower -> d1t05 - The Eleven -> d1t06 - Turn On Your Lovelight Set 2: d1t07 - Stage Announcements d1t08 - That's It For The Other One -> d1t09 - New Potato Caboose -> d1t10 - Born Cross-Eyed -> d1t11 - Spanish Jam d2t01 - Alligator -> d2t02 - Drums -> d2t03 - Alligator -> d2t04 - Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks) -> d2t05 - Feedback Encore: d2t06 - In The Midnight Hour d2t07 - Stage/Radio Announcements --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grateful Dead The Electric Factory Philadelphia, PA 02/15/69 Source: SBD>MR>Cassette>DAT>CD>EAC>SHN Disc 1: 1) //Doin' That Rag 2) Cryptical Envelpoment > 3) Drums > 4) The Other One > 5) Cryptical Envelopment Reprise 6) The Morning Dew > 7) Turn On Your Lovelight Disc 2 1) Tunning 2) Dupree's Diamond Blues 3) Mountains Of The Moon > 4) Dark Star > 5) Saint Stephen > 6) The Eleven// > 7) //Death Don't Have No Mercy 8) Cosmic Charlie Disc 3 1) Alligator > 2) Drums > 3) Alligator Jam > 4) Caution > 5) Feedback > 6) Goodnight --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grateful Dead 2-14-70 Fillmore East, New York, NY mostly: SBD>MR>D>CD>EAC>SHN with portions from: SBD>MR>PCM>D>CD>EAC>SHN Disc 1 (75:43) Early Show: (missing Cold Rain & Snow) 1. stage banter (0:15) 2. Marye - we all know you're overworked - and there's alot of text in the two posts above - if you could put a topic out named Valentine's Day Dead I will seed it with 2/14/68, 2/15/69, 2/13/70, 2/14/70, 2/15/70 - all close enough to be considered valentines day - or the day before or the day after - or

Erickat - I would love to have this vine go out. Some of 2/13 and 2/14 is on Dick's Picks #4, but most of it is not. If this vine goes out with these two nights folks should be encouraged to buy DP 4, if they haven't got it. I bought DP #4 when it came out and welcome the chance to get the rest of these legendary shows. I just needed to put this out there so we were up front about it. Thanks for doing this.
