My First Show!
So, I was raised by a DeadHead father. One of my earliest memories is riding in his truck listening to his cassette of the Skull & Roses album. My own interest in the band waxed and waned growing up, and my dad decided to take me to my first show when I was 14.
I wish I could say that it was an incredibly magical experience, but I honestly don't remember too much about the show. I loved wandering the parking lot before going in - that was really cool. We had seats on the field, and I remember folks rushing down from the stands at one point. I mostly remember being really happy they played Bertha, as it was a song I was most familiar with, and singing along to the chorus of I Need a Miracle.
I remember the times we drove up to Vegas to see them a little more clearly. Once when Steve Miller opened, and the other when they had Sting as an opener (that was pretty wild).
Anyway, my dad passed away a few years ago, and I nabbed a bunch of his Dick's Picks CDs. I don't know what happened to his live cassettes (I'm ashamed that I think we ended up throwing them because none of us had a cassette player anymore). It's been nice thinking about this show, I'd like to listen to it. Hopefully I can track down a copy somewhere.
