Of course we want it all now, but where would you start?
Anchorage, Alaska, 6/21/80.
Anchorage, Alaska, 6/21/80. (It was featured on the homepage when I first logged in.)
The northernmost show ever, as far as I know, and with quite the cosmic vibe in keeping with the summer solstice. A Playing in the Band jam for the ages, a setlist I love. This is really a don't miss.
Since I got on the bus about six months later, I didn't see this show. Of the ones I did see, the ones I'd most like to see formally released, though I'd settle for downloads:
9/11/81 at the Greek (my SECOND show)
5/21/82 at the Greek
I think they're more candidates for download than CD just because they're the darlings of my idiosyncratic tastes rather than known all-time greats. E.g. the latter I particularly loved at the time because the setlist seemed to be a conversation as it played out. But there's a little riff in the UJB in the 5/21 show that I sing to myself to this day, and I haven't listened to it for eons. The tape is a tad battered...
Roosevelt Stadium, August 4,
Roosevelt Stadium, August 4, 1976. The Help-Slip-Franklin's is amazing. You could feel Phil's base pulsating through you body. Besides the only copy of i have not is an audience with some insanely drunk idiot screaming thru the whole thing.
The Winterland 1973 shows
The Winterland 1973 shows with the Cincinnati Gardens 12/4/73 bonus disk (or the whole show would be great!) Even releasing them individually would be fine by me, but I hope that box set comes out someday. Thank you.
I must concur, Jack Straw .
I must concur, Jack Straw . Since I was a newbie I've had this one on cassette and it definitely renders the X-factor big time - TOO gets way dark. Tchoice!
I'd like to see more of
I'd like to see more of those May '78 shows released. 5/5, 5/6, 5/9, 5/13, 5/14, 5/16, 5/17 are all great contenders.
The Winterland 1973
The Winterland 1973 BOX!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where is it? We will buy it!!!!
.
WINTERLAND NOVEMEBER 1973 BOX SET.
More Grateful Dead Movie
More Grateful Dead Movie footage on DVD. That bonus disc in the box set is AWESOME!!!!
Since someone brought up box
Since someone brought up box sets; how about a "Magical Month of May" box set or series? Featuring the shows from early May '77... Maybe every show, maybe select shows.
If I had to pick a single performance, however I would call for
7/8/78 Red Rocks!
Peace & Light
I am a big proponent of
I am a big proponent of Brent's early years, 1979-1982 or so.
The fall/winter 1979 tour has so many exceptional shows, yet is under-represented. I would love to see another show from this era released, such as 10/27/79 or 11/6/79 (my personal all-time favorite EVER).
It is very close on the heels of the Dead Ahead shows, but something from the 4-show mini-tour of Florida and Georgia in November 1980 would be a treat as well.
How about some stuff from the Europe 1981 tour? London 10/4/81 is SUPERB, SUPERB music. Brent is on fire all night long. I don't think anything has ever been released from this tour.
Of course, something from the Summer of 1985 would be most welcome, too. Arguably the most consisent tour of the band's later career. I can't think of a BAD show from that summer.
Finally, I'd like to see the Greek Theater shows in Berkeley from May 1982 be released. Man, that would be GOOD.
Thanks for all you guys do.

I'd like to see something
I'd like to see something from the late eighties, a great era from which there are only two releases I can think of (Downhill From Here and Nightfall of Diamonds). I would nominate this fun, high energy show....
07/06/87
Pittsburgh Civic Arena - Pittsburgh, PA
Set 1:
Feel Like A Stranger>Franklin's Tower, New Minglewood Blues, Row Jimmy, Mama Tried>Big River, Far From Me, Stagger Lee, Desolation Row, Don't Ease Me In
Set 2:
Shakedown Street, Samson And Delilah, Iko Iko>Banana Boat Song>Man Smart-Woman Smarter>Drums>Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Good Lovin'
Encore: Johnny B. Goode
(Iko onward features the Neville brothers as guest artists)
Anything from that run would be nice, but this was a really crazy show.
Pittsburgh, 12/01/79
Another show i attended that would make a fantastic release is the Stanley theatre run on November 30-December 1st of 1979. The second set first CC Rider - Gloria Jam was great, but they are two solid shows throughout. I sat in the first row of the balcony right in front of Jerry, and it was pure ecstacy for two nights!
and May 72Bob

zomby woof posts for me. that's one of my favorite shows.
Winterland '74
Also, I remember David Lemieux saying that we might see more from the GDM and the Winterland 10/74 stuff. That would be great to have the remaining songs as a compilation on cd and some outtakes on DVD (Especially more from 10/20 since the stuff that circulates is not very good---Eyes->Stella Blue
video
more dvd releases, please. i know that there are probably legal issues surrounding some of the 70's era video that floats around, but finding a way around that would be very good for the legacy of the grateful dead and would help the newbies and casual fans understand what was really special about the band.
6/21/71 - herouville, france
4/17/72 - coppenhagen
8/27/72 - oregon
all of those could be made into nice releases- especially if there is more footage that hasn't yet been seen (3rd set from tivoli!!!).
Radio City Shows 1980
I know the boys were not at their peak during the run of shows at Radio City in October 1980, but I still would love to have a complete show released. First sets were acoustic and ended with Ripple, followed by two electric sets. I attended 10/29 and 10/30, and I had a blast at both shows. I think the venue and the historical significance of these shows warrants a release beyond the "best of" albums the band put out.
Autumn Tour 1972
Possibly better than Europe, some great stuff has been issued, lots more hasn't
Bob Witcher
Spanish Jam
K&D !!
The old Keith & Donna album on Round Records, please
How about Rotterdam '72 and
How about Rotterdam '72 and Veneta '72 or, for that matter, a '72 entire tour set. I would also like to see 10/9/1989. Video footage would be great as well. Thanks for what we have, looking forward to new stuff.
Get Fried Man
The Winterland 1973 Box Set . . .
um . . . what they said . . .
90s anyone?
I've been listening to the 93 boston garden run. Say what you will about the 90s or in-ear monitors or Jerry being high too much, but some of those shows ar fantastic (and I was, til recently, a strict nothing-past-91 guy). Now I realy want to get my hands on 9.22.93, the LAST NIGHT OF MSG 93. My "Long Strange Trip" says it was the highlight of the year and who am I to argue.PS: with regards to J A PRUFROCK; check out the Sunshine Daydream movie from Venetta 72. HEY LEMIEUX! COULD WE GET A NICE DVD ISSUE OF THAT?
Winterland Nov. 1973
The BOX SET sounds good to me...

Wish Lists:
1. 1973 Winterland Box Set!!! If its already in the works, set it free!! but please not limited edition. Think of all those 1969 Fillmore junkies that had to go without.
6/14/69, 11/7/71, 5/11/72, 2/15/73, 5/26/73, and 6/10/73 just off the top of my head.
Just an aside, but one thing
Just an aside, but one thing I'd like to see continue if the Dick's Picks series carries on is the inclusion in the liner notes of local reviews of the show. I find those interesting and often very funny.
Back to the subject at hand....
I would also be happy to buy another compilation-style release, like So Many Roads, Phil Zone, and Postcards of the Hanging. Some folks are adamant about getting complete shows, but I'm not one of them.
Also, I disagree with the poster above asking for a complete show from the 1980 Radio City run. We've got Reckoning with a full disc of bonus material and Dead Set with a full disc of bonus material. The month of october 1980 is very well represented indeed!
But if we're going to fixate on complete shows, then here's another example of a late-eighties gem that deserves attention...
07/17/88
Greek Theater, University Of California - Berkeley, CA
Set 1:
Foolish Heart, Greatest Story Ever Told, Althea, Me And My Uncle>Big River, Candyman, Let It Grow
Set 2:
Box Of Rain, Victim Or The Crime, Crazy Fingers>Playin' In The Band>Uncle John's Band>Drums>Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad>All Along The Watchtower>Believe It Or Not>Throwin' Stones>Not Fade Away
Encore:
Blackbird, Brokedown Palace
I'd buy this even though I already have a steller copy. Those who have not heard it, do yourself a favor and get this! It is one of those few instances where an intrigueing setlist is backed up by a solid performance. Solid isn't a strong enough word, however; they're just dead on. (pun intended) The only flaws are that (if I remember correctly) Jerry flubs the lyrics to Believe It Or Not and they apparently did not rehearse Blackbird at all...it's pretty bad. Jerry steps in to make up for it with a heartwrenching Brokedown, which makes it all better.
What's up with the Dick's Picks?
Come on Mr. Rhino at least one more.
From Eygpt With Love
a box set of the 5 concerts at winterland '78 after their trip to Egypt 10/21/78 was the highlight of this run. check 'em out at nugs.net
The Winterland '73 Box
This was a great idea when it was first designed and is STILL a great idea. Please see this box set w/ the bonus disc through!
After that, if all of E72 and 1970 were made available I would be one very happy guy. :-)
More Brent.
I'm not even all that picky.

6/9/77
I read all of the above and didn't see this one (I'm a space cadet so sorry if this is a repeat). The first set is a tad mellow, but they go way out there into wonderland during the second set. This has to be one of my favorite shows ever.
And! SInce its been nearly a week since I provided a link to the LMA and I am experiencing the withdrawals of not being able to direct listeners to great music, here is the URL for that show (I used tinyurl.com to shorten the URL at the request of the lovely mods).

I'm just a, well...porpoise.
Fillmore East April 25-29 1971
We have the 10 CD set of the complete Fillmore West shows. How about a multiple CD set of the complete April 25th to 29th 1971 Fillmore East shows? Demon50
7-17-88.... A great show!
One of my favorite shows ever! I was up on the lawn for this one, and the energy that the band had that day was nothing short of amazing. A real down home, family energy show. I think it would make a great release. I saw the Blackbird at Alpine that year, and this one was better, if you can believe that! Good choice
Midnight on a carousel ride, reaching for that gold ring down inside. Never could reach it. It just slips away. BUT I TRY!
It's Been Said, But....
The two I would really love to see:
A May '77 highlights set
The November '73 Winterland run
Both of these are drool inducing. So what's the hold up?
07/06/87
I second that emotion
Winterland 73 Box
The unreleased box set obviously!!
My second choice would be 10/27-28/79. But I'd settle for an increased release schedule above all else.
6.20.83 Merriweather Post Pavilion Columbia, MD
The time has come for this, most unbelievable, show to be released. Pure Energy.
Re: What's up with the Dick's Picks?
King Harvest said: "Come on Mr. Rhino at least one more."
The suspicion that Dick's Picks, as a series, is run its course is starting to creep into my mind. See that 50 page booklet with full details of all 36 Dick's Picks releases? "The DP 'Dex" or whatever. Free with Three From The Vault. Feels like it might be drawing a line under the DP concept, perhaps? Would they really then immediately make "The DP 'Dex" out-of-date by releasing another DP? Mmmmm. I wonder.
