How do I get Dead Shows off the Internet?
Hi, I am 26 and really love Jerry. He is my idol. A lot of people say that I am too young to love this music. But I disagree. I am looking to build a really strong collection of Dead music. I used to trade tapes for a while but I figure with the internet there should be databases of music at my fingertips. Is there anyone out there that can help me out? I have been to sugarmegs but the shows do not have track breaks in them. So If I wanted to burn them on cd or put them on an mp3 player I would have to listen to the whole show. I have also tried to get the program furthurnet to work but I am no computer genius and I cant get it to work right. Please help me out.

Cosmicbadger, thanks, I found the Lost Sailor/Saint of Circumstance I was looking for. I should have known it was one of the shows in my own back yard, The Spectrum in Philadelphia. I used setlists.net, searched all 145 instances of Lost Sailor and picked the shows that looked familiar. Wouldn't you know it was the last one? http://www.archive.org/details/gd86-03-24.naks.braverman.16746.sbeok.sh… Thanks again!

this has bothered me for years now, i need substantiation please. does anyone ELSE remember the boys being on "hootn'anny" or "hee haw"or similar tv show, around workingman dead release playing "uncle johns band"? or how about some weird movie about a party, i think peter sellers and pia zoa(sp) were the stars, as the camera pans thru the door on thru the main room passing the live band playing, it pans the band members briefly and i swear my minds eye sees all the boys in late 60's glory and thats it, they're gone, pan to beach, no memory of the tune, pretty acidity stobes light show oil globs on walls. could of been around time they where living in lalaland, tring to pay the rent? validate me or flat out no way!i gots to know tc

somewhere on some tape, there is a classic Bill Graham moment in which he berates the howling-for-an-encore crowd about the fact that it is always about "Moooooorrre!" and never about "Thanks!" It has always been one of my favorite bits, to say nothing of words to live by, but I'm looking for the specific show and if possible the verbatim quote. I'm thinking East Coast, late '70s, but I'm guessing here. I got this tape when I only had a few, and now it's lost in the pile and I don't know which one it is. Many thanks!

Here you go Marye,I knew Instantly what show you are talking about. It is the rant in between encores at FIllmore East 04-29-71 The crowd claps and chants MORE!... Bill Graham interrupts the crowd. "" Will you hold 1 second.. 1 second please. We don't know when were going to have the next opportunity for the people that work here. So for us to them we want to thank them. There is a question that I can't answer. Is there anyone really like the Grateful Dead? It's an amazing amazing group. I would like to give credit where credit is due. One of the ushers before I think wrapped it all up. You can use sentences and sentences. Someone was talking about music and this usher said, "The Grateful Deaad aren't just music, they are an environment!" which is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard! So if you want to...if you want....For 1 time if you want to applaud fine, but instead of yelling more and more. Why don't you try sometime, thinking the musicians are here and hanging out. Leave it up to them and don't be assholes all the time. Just let it hang. Leave it up to them. OKAY!.... more more more more. Just hang out!"" I had to listen to it a few times. I think I got all the words correct. enjoy! Let the music flow.... Deadtaper

Bill Graham was a wonderful and visionary man. I was lucky enough be a blue coat for a time. He was alway's very aware what you were seeing was real history. Not just an event being seen for the moment ,but a life changing historical situation that would only grow stronger with time. Hence his frustration at times with those that he felt didn't see it at the time. He also knew you had to get into the moment for it to become history and sink deep into your soul. He knew there was a balance. I remember him talking with us before a day on the green show featuring some rather hard rock bands - who shall remain nameless - about respecting that the people that come to see the show deserve the utmost respect, that they are here because of the music and one should not prejudge them, but be diligent about making sure it was a good enviornment for them to enjoy - the music. It was very powerful coming from him and something I have never forgotten. He was and is a great man in every sense of the word and shall be missed by all who knew him and many more that did not. pk

It was really amazing! Would love to hear this again......... Sorry if I'm writing this in the wrong place, I can't post in a new forum............whats up with that? Thanks much~

That's the studio version of Terrapin Station from the album 'Terrapin Station'. The producer was responsible for that one- trying to make it large and grandiose because it was considered such an 'epic' song. Just from the studio album in 1977. DSO isn't an orchestra. They simply reinact historical shows from the Grateful Dead repetoire. They don't have any means beyond what the Grateful Dead did making music on stage. I do recommend trying to see them when you can. They do a great job making the music, energy and dancin' live on. .......And there were days I know when all we ever wanted was to learn and love and grow.

here The liner notes say it was made in Venezuela and recorded at Rick's Cafe in Casablanca, which will probably come as a surprise to Deadbase. The song list is enough of a mishmash that it doesn't seem likely to be a full show per se. How does it sound?

My first show was in 1969 at a club, I think The Boston Tea Party (they changed names often in those days.) Opening act was Bonzo Dog Band, middle act was Doc Watson, then the Dead. Am I remembering this right? I've been googling, and find info on Bonzo and Dead but not Doc. A great show, if my wavering memory serves.

A friend sent me a song "Grateful Dead - Eggshells.mp3", its a live recording, and not that great quality recorded, i found the lyrics: http://vagalume.uol.com.ar/grateful-dead/eggshells.htmland here: http://moemoemoemoe.blogspot.com/#112925168409278437 but i cant find the song in the songlist on this site therefore i was wondering if anyone has some more information about it (is it really by the grateful dead, does it maybe have another name, where, when and with who is it recorded, and is it an "official" recording or recorded by someone from the audience) Any information is appreciated, thanks alot

Well, Wander, when I came up empty I decided to ask Alan Trist of Ice Nine, the Dead's publishing company. He searched his databases, he searched his memory, and he too says he's never encountered this before. So I think we know pretty definitively it's not a Grateful Dead song. Wonder whose it is?

I have a copy of that 4 lp set "Good Lovin"...decent sound quality & probably recorded in the late 70s. Definitely a collector's item for lovers of vinyl & good old grateful dead! There are several other LP bootlegs from the 70s in my collection from the days before widely available tapes of live shows...how times have changed!Jay
