This was nothing but a good time... It was the 25th Anniversary of Guitar Player magazine, and thankfully they decided to have it in S.F.! What can I say, the music was great all night, with folks like Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, Adrian Legg, Dick Dale, John Lee Hooker, Shawn Lane, Rik Emmett, Ry Cooder, Adrian Belew, Frank Gambale, Freddie Roulette, Henry Kaiser, Harvey Mandel, Steve Morse, Nathan Cavalieri, Elliot Easton, and Gregg Allman on the B-3!! All of these players were completely excellent. I didn't need or use the ticket, as I went in through the backstage entrance. The ticket was for a seat upstairs, but I always preferred the floor there, and on this particular night, with backstage access, why go upstairs?
And oh yeah, we went to the after show party... Never had such a good time...
P.S. Someone asked me how I remember all this, I let the scrapbook do the remembering!

The newspaper was
The S.F. Chronicle, the review was done by Joel Selvin. There was a real nice program that they had printed for this gig. Gotta look around for it...
Freddie Roulette!
Wonder what he's up to these days. During my Payless days, I worked with his then-girlfriend and got to know her and their daughter (who was born midway through this period), and incidentally Fred just from him stopping by the store. I knew he played pedal steel because she talked about how he could make it talk and their daughter loved it.
Years passed, we all went our various ways, and one day I was at the Last Day Saloon or some such place, probably because Gans was playing, and some guy named Freddie Roulette was on the bill. I knew nada. Then in walked this dude carrying his pedal steel.
FRED!!!!! says I.
Big laughs all around.
Wow Marye !!
How many people have a Freddie Roulette story? Can't be too many I bet. That's so cool...
Thanks for posting this
I went to this show and have been trying to remember all the players... so glad you did!
I remember being most impressed with Dick Dale's set (though it was LOUD). For the encore, they brought everyone back on stage to join Gregg (I think it was for "No Way Out") and they all took a solo. And at the end, Skunk Baxter (who had functioned as bandleader) yells out "Now EVERYBODY solo!" and they did!
