I ate something that a Native American gave me, and then I swam naked with lots of other people. And somehow (thank you whoever you are), I made it back home to NYC with aud masters of both shows.
LA Olympics and The Grateful Dead
Was working at the Olympics and drove up in my 1966 Mustang for the weekend. Could park right at the beach and slept in the back seat. The Olympic spirit and the deadheads good vibes made for an excellent summer of 1984. I had only $34 to my name and Touch of Grey reassured me that I will survive. First time I heard it and I always remembered that... and I was never that low on cash again...whew
Fun at the beach.
We got to camp out in the lot surrounding the fairgrounds and I remember LA area bands out showing up with all of their equipment, stage, lights, and generators. They set up and after the 2pm show was over they would play for hours into the night. I am sure these were guys out here from middle America trying to make it big in LA and this was a way to promote. Some of them were very good.

TRULY GREAT SHOW... from start to finish. One of my all-time favorite shows. Great location, great vibe that day... really one of the best days of my entire life. NEVER HAD SUCH A GOOD TIME / IN MY LIFE BEFORE!!!
Surfers-
The band was late & everyone was peaking in the sunshine of southern Cali before they hit the stage.Traveled w/ Kirk & Warren& Chuck Minx(where are you?)...great burritos & killer salsa on the beach before the gig.
Some guy slit his throat w/ a knife during the set break & really freaked some people out.
Beautiful Cali surfer girls & watching surfers @ the break after the show ...lots of fun.
Went to a trippy party after & all they played was "Missing Persons" :D
The Shakedown Olympics
Anyone else remember just after Shakedown some of the people here at the show stood up with the score of Shakedown Street . 10.0

Subject: Grate, but not the best
A few things to share regarding these shows. '84 was the year of the olympics in LA (minus the Russians). The heads at this show were in full Olympic mode. After each song during each of the two days first sets there were heads holding up score cards just like an Olympic event. These two shows were like Olympic events in a bull-fighting arena, with plenty of great dance grooves.

This was my ex-wife Bonnies first show. She was dehydraitid after the first set.We forgot to get water.Once again some of you came to the rescue. We had got a good audience tape from our friend Skip Halpin of this show that was one of our best memories throught our 23 years together. Looks Like Rain and Stella Blue still hit my heart from that distant day. Or was it just yesterday? I'm looking for photos.

I did not take any of these photos. I hope not upsetting anyone by copying and pasting them here. I love that there are even photos of some of the best days of my life touring with the boys.http://images.gdao.org/view/image/ark%3A%2F38305%2Fg4n87b2n%2Fis%2F1

31 years ago today
That is just mind blowing that 31 years have past sense was at this show. Such good times back then small amount of tour heads back then . Small enough crowds to run into each other every time you turned around or danced in same area as every other year here.
