    On a blistering summer day in 1972, the Grateful Dead took the stage on the grounds of the Oregon Country Fair in Veneta, Ore. for what would become one of the most legendary concerts of the band’s storied history. Join us this summer when we screen the previously unreleased concert film “Sunshine Daydream” as part of our now annual Grateful Dead Meet Up At The Movies.

    Originally shot on 16mm film and painstakingly restored to HD resolution, "Sunshine Daydream" captures the band at the height of their powers (fresh off the Europe ’72 tour) and at the epicenter of the counterculture movement. Special features include never-before-seen footage of the concert day as well as recently recorded interviews with key participants from the time such as Ken Babbs, Sam Cutler, Wavy Gravy and Carolyn "Mountain Girl" Garcia, who provide insight on how the community came together for this special event to help raise money to keep the local town’s Springfield Creamery afloat. This extraordinary screening also shines a spotlight on some mighty fine tunes, with a playlist containing all new Stereo and 5.1 Audio mixes done by Jeffrey Norman at TRI Studios in San Rafael, Calif. and mastered by Grammy® winning engineer David Glasser at Air Show Mastering in Boulder, Colorado, with tape transfer and restoration by Plangent Processes.

    "Sunshine Daydream" will only be playing on the silver screen for one night! Come along and connect with Dead Heads in your neighborhood on Thursday, August 1 at 7:30 p.m. local time.

Such a beautiful vid to watch, it almost hurts that it is gone forever. If that wasn't ecstasy, I don't know what was or is. Being and living in Europe, I'll never get to a theater for this on time in the US. A DVD release would be wonderful!

this has to be the BEST performance of the Dead, and is well overdue! The workmanship I am seeing on this restoration is amazing, my hats off to all that worked on this! You can really see the playing by the band, music synced up excellently with the playing, sharp, sharp video, beautiful! Now, you MUST release this on DVD after the screening, I need this always! Thanks!

There is in my opinion almost no chance that they would put this together for a one day movie theater release and then not subsequently release the DVD. Wow, sorry for all the negatives. My point: I believe the DVD will DEFINITELY be sold here, and would strongly expect it to be this year.

...on the big screen finally, but I already have tix to see Warren Haynes with the SF Symphony for their JG tribute that night. I suspect this will conflict with a lot of similar events nationwide; a shame!

I was excited to see it is playing my local theater, until I realized I need to be out of town that day -- bummer. So, any chance this HD remaster will get released on BluRay with the 5.1 mix? Fingers crossed.

so funny no-one even thinks to mention a blu-ray release.I mean HELLO!!! blu-ray release is ESSENTIAL. why would anyone want compressed, lossy dvd still?? it's 2013 people. WAKE UP!! EDIT: noon read my mind.

Is this the same Sunshine Daydream originally shot and directed by Philip DeGuere? He traveled around with a film by this name back in the mid-70s before going on to work on the Baretta TV show.

Probably my favorite Dead show ever - I've listened to the tape of this many many times. That China Cat is truly amazing, probably the best version ever, as are many songs from this show. I can't wait to see this in the theater on Jerry's birthday, I've heard about this video for years, but have never seen it, it looks like it was worth the wait!

Really hope this will come out as a 3CD/1 DVD set, similar to the 7/7/89 release. Got tapes in College in the 80s and then the friend I introduced to the Dead dropped CDrs of it on me in the mid90s before I got CDr tech and LMA got rolling. Cornerstone of my Dead shelves!Will love to buy the official release.......UNLESS it gets chopped up! My ass still hurts from what happened to the 5/15/70 tapes when they became a RT set! Please keep 8/27/72 complete on the release! I'll pay whatever you want! Video looks great! Thanks!

nakedtrippinpeople!It's about time SSDD is coming on out. My guess is this will be the fall 2013 release. Hopefully it'll be on Blu-ray. With Jeff Norman workin' his ass off on this, you can not see why it wouldn't be. Thanks DL2, Jeff, & Mark P.

I hope you can forgive and forget I ever said DVD. I swear I didn't mean it. I also sometimes will say, "I taped the game" despite recording it on a DVR. I may have even once, in a drunken stupor, suggested that something should be filmed. Perhaps you are wound a little tighter than those in the movie, eh?

It took me all of about 45 seconds to click away and get 4 tickets at the local CineBistro! Based on my experience at the last Movie/Concert (2 years ago?) I got 4 seats on the corder of the center isle so I can dance and jam w/o disturbing those sitting and watching the "movie"... THIS is going to be a goodnight :-) As always, iGrateful

Oh, May this be a new release on Blue Ray. I know the whole concert is on tape and part of it is on film. The music was absolutely marvelous. But the film that is shown now is fantastic quality. If the sound is just as much upgraded this will be a monumental release. I have a fairly good copy and we love to watch it as it captures the essence of the free spirit of these times. The band provides the music and the Dead Heads form the real party. Please, please bring this out before we are all dead. It is very, very late already.

The clip looks tons better than the various VHS and DVD versions I've picked up through the years. I hope it sells so well you add a second showing for those people who have conflicts-- and for those of us who want to see it twice!

Can't wait to see how the movie blows my bootleg dvd out of the water! My first show was the 3 set wonder in Boulder a week later, on 9/3/72. Lots of great memories.

I won't be able to attend, due to August 1st being my 5th Anniversary. Will be tucked away along the coast of California, nowhere near civilization!! Please oh please release it!! If it's not a complete show on video, can we at least get the Dark Star uncut?? Oh yeah, and how about top 5 Bird Song?? One of my faves. Thank you to all involved, especially the Boys!!

Last year's Meet Up at the Movies (Alpine 7-19-89) was not released as a DVD or Bluray. I'm hoping that changes for this show. It'd be quite a shame if not...A soundtrack would be great.

Man... I can't wait! I'll be enjoying this w/ my Man... (((Big Smiles))) I can't even imagine what it must've felt like to actually have been there back in the day... wow! I love hearing stories from the early days from older heads... it's like sitting at the feet of an elderly person... soaking up the wisdom. Only you're sitting across from them, all of us talking to Mary... eyes wide, hanging on every word. I LOVE it!!

I have long since passed the point where I can afford high end fandangos like the whole Europe Tour, so to have this nugget's existence proven in such quality (almost too high quality - Sunburn Girl makes me cringe, and not always in a good way) is encouraging. The thing is, those of us who have first generation memories (swiss cheesed as they may be) are becoming a smaller, slower moving demographic every day. In other words, thanks for finishing the movie. Now release the consarn thing while I can still dance to it!!!!

Is that the stinkin movie??" pretty much... the film makers were as high as the crowd, and they were there to document the scene, not just the songs. as i recall there are only eight songs in the movie. if you are expecting a "concert film" you will be disappointed

STILL my favorite venue of all time, just from the show ten years later. I missed this one, having no clue at the time. The place is just exactly perfect. It has always somewhat puzzled me (after the initial startle reflex) why Eugene seems to be unique as a venue in having lots and lots of topless women and naked folks. I mean, I've been to a whole lot of shows in California and elsewhere, in hot summer, and never seen the like of the Eugene scene in that regard.

This looks like a super improvement over the low quality dvd I've had for some years. Also, there seems to be more footage- there are a few extra naked people there for sure. This should be amazing on the big screen. I wonder if they kept the animation during Dark Star? Actually, I enjoy seeing the crowd as much as the band- especially in that spectacular setting. As someone else pointed out, it is also a little sad. Sad that those times are gone, and especially sad that I missed out on them. My first show wasn't until 1983, and even then I never had the courage to "freak freely" at a show like all those beautiful people.

Bet that sunburn really freaking hurt after the acid wore off. Nice restoration job, and sound. It looks like it could have been filmed yesterday. Yes, a lot of audience footage predominates, but the material is just as valuable from the point of view of historical reference. Recall that the Dead perceived the audience as an integral part of the band. I hope to be able to attend a showing. It looks like it will be fun.

for these GD celebrations. There is lots of us around. Especially in Southern Ontario and British Columbia. Whether it's GD movies, 30 Days of Dead contests or lack of Furthur shows. Whatever... still love ya. But we need some love too.

    just finished watching and listening to aug.27,1972. AMAZING!!!! The boys at their best!!!! One of the all time best shows. The film is incredible took me back to the days when I was in high school touring with the band. There was nothing like a grateful dead concert. WOW!!!
