Craziest 3 minutes at a show ever
Typical CCCC show (the boys really had a Maine rotation of songs through the years). Thought we were going to get the Dew out of Playin'... But no! A crazy rough but right Day Tripper. From behind the stage it felt like the whole arena exploded in a bath of orange light.

Where Ever We Go The People All Complain
I was on my 5th year of serious east coast touring with the Usual Suspects We had all filtered into Portland on the travel day. Meeting up at the Sonesta Hotel downtown we partied with about 15 heads and and a tank in our room. Needless to say the next morning, not only we're we kicked-out and they kept our money for the second nights stay, and said that they we're going to call all of the hotels in Portland to tell them not to rent to us. Of course I had a back-up reservation under a different name at the Sheraton Towers just outside of downtown. Well as luck would have it , not only was the band there and we saw almost all members but Brent came down to our room for while for some late night stories and beers. What a hoot. Thank you Sonesta Hotel. I had just purchased a new VW golf 4 speed ad it was a champ in the snow after the first show.

    Day Tripper
I traveled from FL to NH to see this show (and the next one) and I dragged along my brother and a friend who knew nothing about the Dead. My most vivid memory of this show is the crowd reaction to the beginning of "Day Tripper". Even my uninitiated friend had to admit he had never heard an audience cheer that loudly. It's all over the tapes if you check them out.

nice show after warm spring day. dosed and saw many strange patterns and skeletony visions. right before they played day tripper, I had the strangest feeling they were conjuring up someone. the thought hit my mind....John Lennon. At that precise point, Phil turned at a right angle and looked over his glasses directly at me and played the unmistakable opening to Daytripper. Leaving the show was surreal as a rather hefty snow had been falling while we were inside. i was so messed up i couldn't find my bearings and must have circled the auditorium several times before realising the way back to semi-reality.

That was a fun show. I don't think I noticed they started Playin' halfway in reverse while I was at the show, not till we got back to the hotel after the show and started spinning tapes. Came out totally surprised that it had started snowing, it was the SPRING tour. I had a tour book for all the spring tour shows that year in the taper's section. I blast from one end to the other. This show was the better of the two in Portland, which was a bit of a bummer since it was April Fools the next night and everyone was abuzz about when they'd come out on each other's instruments a few years earlier, and what are they going pull out? The Day Tripper was cool. They definitely pulled out loads of new songs, new locations for songs in the sets, and were playing great (except a little bit here and there for Jerry's voice).
