“The Omnipotent Grateful Dead!”
1st Set Hot, 2nd Set Not
DKNJ: My first show.
The last ever Dancin', Peggy-O is sublime.Jerry rips it on Mexicali, of all things and cranks up the heat on a sick Jack Straw> Deal combo.
The 2nd set is a little clumsy (Tons of Steel?) Post space Terrapin is cool, listen to the Space lead-in its awesome.
The "Saint" intro is not saintly at all.
1ST Show after a 2 year residential rehab stint
Not what I was hoping for after a two yr absence but from attending shows , I actually thought the following night was much tighter and the energy was higher. This could be contributed to my extreme uncomfortability due to it also being my first show completely sober & having a chaperone (sp).
What's With All The Bitchin' About The Byrne?
Was The Spectrum or Pittsburg Civic Auditorium any better? I mean outside of Hampton what east coast venues are really any better? And hey johnnyg I liked Push too and never understood why they shelved it Check Out My Orignal Music at myspace.com/salaversano
what a great opener!!
Dancin into franklins...........What a great opener.Terrapin sticks has the highlight for me.
There were massive gate crashers outside due to Jerry on a local radio staition....WNEW.....Scott M. asked Jerry about why Dark Star is not played that often.....and Jerry's reply was "I think we'll play that tonite" Sooooooooo here comes the gate crasher!
Bryne was a good place when it first opened.............Security got really bad after a few shows there.
Some deadhead named Adam was found dead along the NJ turnpike .........It took yeras to find out but security at Bryne killed him. Like 9 security guards were charged for manslaugter.
My first show. Highlights
My first show. Highlights for me were Franklin's, Rooster (that was one of my faves back then for some reason - I was wearing out Dead Set in general), Peggy-O, Push-Shove, Deal and Terrapin.
I remember before the show outside there was a guy selling T-Shirts that contained the slogan "It's Worth the Trip," and he was shouting, "Grateful Dead Spring Tour '87 T-Shirts! ... It's Worth The Chirp!" We kept imitating him.
It *was* indeed a trip experiencing our first show. We were pretty tame though - we were young and one of our dads brought us. Things would get a lot crazier over the next 6 or so years when I went to alotta more shows. But this one was good and fun and turned me on for life so yeah it's special to me.

-There'll never be another Jerry
4/6/87
There's always a fun and diverse level of opinion. The Dancin' into Franklin's was absolutely fantastic. The space into Terrapin was even better. I remember the crowd in front of Jerry more excited than usual. And the NY crowd always seemed more raucous than on the west coast. If anyone has a great copy of this show, let me know.
