As widely reported in various venues, the boys, or some of them at least, will be playing the Obama inaugural ball tomorrow night.
By suggestion: what should they play? what WILL they play?
Dont know wat channel it will be on, but as for set list, hmmmmmmm.... Id definitely say Touch Of Grey would be in there somewhere. Viola Lee Blues would be a killer encore!!!IVE GOT A FRIEND SOMEWHERE.....

Brokedown Palace, Blues for Allah, Friend of the Devil, Hell in a Bucket, Ship of Fools, He's Gone, U.S. Blues...

...so I'm duplicating my misplaced post in the Dead Spring tour forum. Here goes:
I wouldn't expect to see the Dead's appearance on TV, DC is filthy with inaugural balls (there are several just in the Convention Center), and the Mid-Atlantic isn't one of the more famous. The Neighborhood Ball will get the most media attention, since almost-President Obama just created it for us common folk. It is being televised, and will air live on ABC 8:00 - 10:00 p.m. ET.
The Commander-in-Chief's Ball is televised to armed forces and some cable systems on the Pentagon Channel.
The Youth Inaugural Ball will be broadcast on MTV channels around the world. The show airs at 10:00 p.m. EST/ 7:00 p.m. PST. Kid Rock, Fall Out Boy and Kanye West will be performing. Maybe MTV will catch some Dead video, but they're not covering the whole show, and the Youth Ball isn't at the Convention Center like the Mid-Atlantic. Getting around DC is probably pretty difficult around party time.
The rest of the balls are the regional ones, there's one for each of the Prez and VP home states, and then the Eastern, Mid-Atlantic, Mid-West, Southern and Western Balls, each covering groups of states and US territories. Other than news clips I don't recall seeing much of these other soirees on TV; maybe there will be a kind taper or two in attendance at the Mid-Atlantic (although security will no doubt be a sho'nuff bitch at these things!) and a tape of the set will magically appear - I know I'll be watching archive.org, but I don't really expect to see the Dead set show up.
Enjoy!

...Maybe ABC will pick up a little Dead-ness during the Neighborhood Inaugural Ball broadcast. Both balls (hehe) are in the convention center. Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, JAY-Z, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Faith Hill, Alicia Keys, and Shakira are all performing at the NIB, though, so there might not be a lot of spare air time.

This could be the dawn of anew era, although didn't the grateful dead play for president Clinton in the white house in the 90s? I believe he hung a grateful dead flag on the white house after Jerrys passing. Im curious as to what songs they played for Clinton. There were dayz, then there were dayz between.......

no web casts? abc , or mtv might give a quick look in,,Warren is also playing solo acoustic during the day,, its on his site,, that might lead to something.. set lists.. geez.., Casey Jones>Truckin>Other one>West La fadeaway>Throwing Stones>Watchtower... ..
...I'd bet on it. Other than that addition pabogoniagirl's list looks accurate. Don't see 'em playing anything with drug references or doing much in the way of jams, they'll stick to happy bouncy tunes. Only have an hour to play, after all, and the place will be full of stuffed shirts.
Got my fingers crossed for a tape, that's for sure, and it's bound to get video'd.
Cheers, MarkintheDark

I'd see any or all of these as likely inclusions and fitting selections:
Dancin in the Streets
Eyes of the World
Wheel
Not Fade Away
U.S. Blues
Liberty
Heres some more for the guest list:
Sen Harry Reid NV Quote: "Here, I'll show you the bathroom. This is my prized possession, a signed poster of the Grateful Dead." -Las Vegas Eyes Witness News
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi CBS reports "'Ms. Pelosi is a huge Dead fan,' her spokeswoman said." She got them (minus Phil) to play at her party following her swearing-in ceremony.
Political columnist Ann Coulter (what a babe) Quote: "But that is not what Wilson says he found! Thus, his column had the laughably hubristic title, "What I Didn't Find in Africa." (Once I couldn't find my car for hours after a Dead show. I call the experience: "What I Didn't Find in San Francisco.")"
Political columnist Tucker Carlson Tucker interviewed Phil. A sighting at a Dark Star Orchestra show
But wait, theres more:
Walter Cronkite is also a known Grateful Dead fan, and has been spotted at Madison Square Garden shows. And That's The Way It Is.
Al & Tipper Gore are fans. Tipper more so than Al.
Deroy Murdoch or National Review fame
Famous sax man and cigar smoker Bill Clinton is rumoured to be a closet Dead Head
dude,Clinton is a dead head! Ive got a biography on the dead and clinton talked about Jerry and his passing and what a loss it was for the world. I believe he hung a dead flag (stealy) on the white house when he died. So you know clinton will be chiefing! And Cronkite, uh well.........

cnn.com says on thier website that they will be following President Obama to the various balss aand streaming it, so they might catch the show there???
I like that suggestion of Help>Slipknot!> Franklin's Tower. Very appropriate. Franklin's Tower is about as patriotic as you can get. I once heard Warren Haynes play Slipknot! with P&F, and he does a good job with it. I also heard Warren Haynes sing "Stella Blue" in a solo acoustic set, and I can almost hear him singing "Ship of Fools" at this event--for those whose expectations for the new administration are way over the top. "The One" will not part the seas or bring Heaven to Earth. That's not his job.
Here is what I pulled off of the Washington Post Website about scheduling:
8:00 p.m. EST
Midwest Inaugural Ball
Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Place NW
Washington, DC 20001
Guests will hail from Kansas to North Dakota and from Ohio to Nebraska. Tickets: $150. Start time not yet announced. For more information call 202.651.2009

Hope they televise this!

You told me good-bye, how was I to know
You didnt mean good-bye, you meant please dont let me go?
I was having a high time, living the good life, well I know
The wheels are muddy, got a ton of hay,
Now listen here, baby, cause I mean what I say.
Im having a hard time, living the good life, well I know.
I was losing time, I had nothing to do,
No one to fight, I came to you.
Wheels broke down, leader wont draw,
The line is busted, the last one I saw.
Tomorrow come trouble, tomorrow come pain,
Now dont think too hard baby, cause I know what Im saying.
I could show you a high time, living the good life, dont be that way.
Nothings for certain, it could always go wrong,
We could have us a high time, living the good life, well I know.
I understand they're limited to a single, one-hour set. My guess is that the setlist will look something like this.
Morning Dew > Dark Star > Drums > Stella Blue - Encore: Viola Lee Blues
Perhaps, if they don't stretch too much on Dark Star, they'll have time for a quick rundown of Money, Money.
[Tongue firmly in cheek throughout post]
"When it comes to humility, I'm the greatest!" - Bullwinkle Moose
think too trippy for such an event. Think will stick to the more "structured" tunes. Remember is no "deadhead"crowd really. Would bet of U.S. Blues for sure, Eyes, Dancing in the Streets, Lovelight,Touch of Grey, hmmm. truckin perhaps

Egads, say it ain't so! Bobby and Phil in tuxes? I could have understood if they were psychedelic but the cognitive dissonance was too much."That does not compute!
That does not cumpute!
Danger, danger, Will Robinson,
Back to the ship!"
Have to say I think you're quite wrong about Biden, Patdro. Would be curious where you got this information.
"Biden's campaign issues focused on withdrawal from Vietnam, the environment, civil rights, mass transit, more equitable taxation, health care, the public's dissatisfaction with politics-as-usual, and "change"
just a brief segment from Wikipedia bout Biden's senatorial campaign in 1972.

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine
Didnt know that about vice president Biden. I was wondering if anyone has any or knows if theres any film coverage on the ball dance? So I guess we can rule out marajuana being legal in all 50 states.Phatmoye
Thomas Jefferson signed his name on a piece of marajuana!!!!!

Joe Biden invented the position of the drug czar and declared war on many of us posting on this site and whose support for the Grateful Dead and spinoffs made them significant at all. He stands for a great many things we all don't like. The only position, I know of, required by law to lie to the public. Makes me sick to see him listed on a setlist. I know we are all swept away by Obama mania, I too am excited, but this guy sitting at his side is the democrats version of evil Cheney. I hope he is completely marginalized. The inventor of the Drug Czar position was given a forum during a Dead show, makes me sick.
I got these links from the archives site , the sound could be better, but i think it was shot with a cell phone or something.. check it out ,
