    my miracle show
this show is very special to me for a couple of reasons. first, one of the best shows I have ever had the pleasure of hearing the Dead perform. Secondly, I ended up finding a miracle ticket to get into the show. My friend had accidentally traded my ticket for a ticket for the Chicago show. Needless to say, we didn't figure this out until after we dropped a couple of hits of blotter and we got up to the gate. My "ungrateful" friend handed me the extra Chicago ticket and went ahead into the show. I was at a loss since I was beginning to peak by this point. There were hundreds of hippies wandering around, all of us looking for our "miracle". Then, out of the blue, this dude walks up to me and said "I have your miracle ticket!!!" I totally lost it! Out of everyone looking, he picked me! It must have been my kalidoscope eyes!!! We traded tickets and I got in just as the Dead came onstage. What a phucking kick ass show!!! I never did find the group of friends I was touring with but that didn't matter...I made lots of new Deadhead friends at this show and had the time of my life! I can still remember how the stage looked like a giant turtle during "Terrapin". I still get a warm fuzzy feeling all over when I think of this show. To whoever the cool dude was who gave me the miracle ticket - no words can express how grateful I am and thanks for giving me one of the best shows ever! Peace!!!

Absolutely epic show, Great Help Slip Frank's, and the second set is smooth and rockin©! Only two songs after space, but they CRUSHED 'em!!! Brent, Phil and Jerry fused together like only they could! ". . . Music is the best!" (fz)

the first show i attended after becoming familiar with their songs. i was convinced that they would play; help-slip-franklins and told all my friends, and.......i just about flipped out when they opened with it. as we know, it wouldn't be the last time that the crazy synchronicity thing happened around the dead.

Brent shined at this show. Listen to the tapes and just listen to Brent. I cry still when I hear it knowing what would happen very soon after this . But sadness put aside, he (and the band of course) left some seriously hot jams to remember him by and this is one of those nights. I love Brent dearly and am very grateful to have jammed with him, the band , and the crowd all night. It was a classic Deer Creek show. And yes , there were total Nazis at that place. We got harassed to leave the lot and these dicks rushed at our car as we tried to leave (my friend Sam made a snide remark) but we were in the car and trying to leave when it all went down. Everything turned out alright though and we made it back to our camp(I forget which one) where the host were so cool!! "do whatever you want, but stay out of the pond. It has leeches"' the lady told us. There were balloons and freaks and it was fun, funny and very peaceful. I remeber listening to "The Song Remains the Same" on Houses of the Holy while we did balloons. It was so funny and weird. A nice summer night with stars and heads and ice cold Mountain Dew after a rippin' Morning Dew. I was just starting to fit in to my groove!! Summer 90 was spectacular.

This show will always be etched in my mind because of the 1st set. We all remember that they opened with Help-Slip-Frank, and then Peggy O literally brought me to tears. For me, there was a very weird back story regarding this show. I know I can't be the only one who has been so anxious to see a show that on the night before I was absolutely unable to sleep, but thats how my night before that show went. On the day of the show when everyone was waking up and getting ready so we could all meet and caravan to the show, I still hadn't slept. The only sleep I had was a 5 or 10 minute desperation nap at some point during the day while everyone hung out and waited for the gates to open. Even though common sense told me to do otherwise, I had to partake in the party supplies & festivities along with the rest of my group, and so when the good times started to roll, my brain was not well enough rested to handle the normally wonderful ride. That bus came by and I got on, but I shouldn't have. At some point during China-Rider, I wondered right out of the Amphitheater, and to this day I don't know why. Eventually I must have realized that I was no longer in the show, and so I remember thinking that I couldn't remember where my truck was parked. The stupid thing about that was that we had gotten there so early that we were parked in the lot that was the closet parking area to the actual amphitheater; it was behind the lawn. Before I flipped out (earlier in the day) me and all the rest of our group had talked a lot about how great our parking places were, and had even joked about how nobody could possibly forget where we were parked. Forgetting where I parked was only a small part of what I went through trying to find my little blue Toyota 4x4. I walked all over the massive Deer Creek complex. I was losing it...massive bad vibes. At one point I almost walked across the pond because I thought it would be a good short cut. Then I saw some cops and tried to get directions so I could figure out where my truck was parked. They rejected me flat and didn't want any part of me...I guess they could tell how messed up I was. Duh!!! During this entire ordeal, I could still hear the show loud and clear, so that was a bit of saving grace. Finally, and a bit magically, I saw the bed of my truck in the distance...this was right at the moment when the band started playing The Weight. From that moment on, everything I can remember was in slow motion. People, I kid you not; the next several minutes felt like one of those cliche moments that you see in so many movies and TV shows...you know how they play the music from Chariots of Fire and there will be to people running towards each other with their arms wide open? There was a scene like this in Vacation, when Chevy Chase and his family finally made it to Wally World and they raced to the front gates. Remember? Anyway, when I finally reached my truck I think I had an emotional collapse or something. LOL Falling forward into it, I hugged the back of the truck and climbed into the open bed where I then physically collapsed. For several minutes I just stared up at the sky with tears of joy in my eyes because I was finally able to rest. In a few more minutes I heard the voices of my brother and a bunch of our friends. I don't think I was ever happier to see any of them, and haven't been since. As soon as they got to the side of the truck bed they spotted me lying there...took one look at me and started laughing their asses off because they had all known that I would probably trip out and lose my mind. And I did. Someone said my eyes were as big a oranges. They all agreed to prohibit me from driving back to the hotel, so one buddy drove my truck while someone else calmed me down with the kindness. Back at the suite, I got in my bed in the back bedroom and stayed there for the rest of the night. One kind individual stayed around for a while and kept me cool with the nugs and beers. It's entirely possible that I had a 12 pack while trying to get it together. This was just one of many long crazy nights. Luckily the hotel had an awesome breakfast buffet the next day. It was a feast to be remembered. And it was only the first night of two at the Creek in 1990. WOW

Mmm the Peggy O was so pretty, and so to was Brents final Easy To Love You. She was my favorite Brent tune, little did u know it would be his last. I'm so grateful that I got to hear it. The second set closers, only two songs, but boy oh boy did they just shine. It really was a solid night.

My first trip to the mystical Deer Creek Music Theatre. Just getting there in my '74 bus was a trip. Almost didn't make the Buffalo show two days prior. Could only get the beast to move 30 mph by the end. Great mechanic in Orchard Park moved a car out of the shop to get me on my way. There were two wonderful ladies from Colorado and Tennesee sleeping in front of my bus when I got out asking for a ride. We all headed out to Indy and had a tire explode on the interstate outside of Columbus. AAA came to save the day (with a state trooper). As we neared the venue driving through cornfields right up to the road I could've sworn I was in heaven. The horizon showed me the peaks of the amphitheatre. It was hot. Really hot. We took our place at the front of the hill and danced. What's there to say about the show?...look a the set lists. Everything was played to perfection. Come on...I mean THE WEIGHT for goodness sake. I don't know if it was this night or the next, but I remember everyone doing a rain dance in hopes of getting some relief from the heat. It worked. During the intermission it rained - just enough - and then stopped as the second set began. Magic, pure magic. Strangers stopping strangers - just to shake their hands...

I don't remember all that much so you'll have to pardon me...I was definetly high, maybe a little too high. After a long HOT day cruising around the scene, my brother and I dosed good for the show, and as we stood on the lawn in anticipation, you could just feel this was going to be a special night. Dah dah dahdah the opening chords to Help on the Way fuckin A. Right through the first set the spaceship was now in flight and beginning it's orbit as the intermission ended. The opening chug of China Cat, you gotta be shittin me. Tight, quick tempo, and balls deep, what a jam into Rider. Terrapin...WOW. Drumz was heavy, but during space and the twisted laughter Ahaha haha Ahaha haha. My brother looked over at me too see if I was as high as he was...yup. Our friend Toru from Japan was tripping for the first time, first dead show, first time in North America, and first space. He began too loose it. We let hhim know it was all good, I think we were trying to convince ourselves as well, lol. All was well, amazing show, back to the lot and the tank of N2O, for buzzin all night. What a night.
