a loss

My youngest sister (53yrs) passed away unexpectly about two weeks ago. She leaves an older step-daughter and a young son, 16. Their father passed away about a year and a half ago. We are overwhelmed by this loss. I never posted in this forum before but I always read it. All of you are good hearted people. I come to this site because of the joy and peace it generates. All of you are an anchor to me, even in the best of times. I thank you all for letting me be in such endlessly "kind" company.

warm words

I wish to thank all of you for your warm words. I have a couple of standout memories of my sister that are sustaining me. One is from when she was 11, we took her with us, her three older sisters. to the Human Be-In in Golden Gate Park. We dressed her up in vibrant red Mexican pancho that belonged to me, and homemade beads. She wore the same outfit to her first Fillmore concert, perhaps the same year. It was a sunday afternoon show and the Mothers of Invention played. She laughted in the strobe. I can see her now. I talked to her son about an hour ago and he is listening to the Beatles. and so it goes........... Peace & Music, down by the docks of the city.

My best friend (whom iv'e been to lots of dead shows with) wife is 3 months pregent. Yesterday, they recently found out that the baby might possibly be deceised. Brother Scott

Scott was recently hospitalized and then provided with intense chemo for four days to kill his leukemic bone marrow. And then eleven days ago (the eleven?) the specialists completed a stem cell transplant.

The oncologist indicated that it would take from 6 to 14 days for the new stem cells to adjust and take over the essential function(s). And Scott just called me to report blood levels have started to stabilize. Most of last year he required blood transfusions at least every two days if not every day to survive. Now his hemacrit, red, and white cells are all close to normal. Platelets still low but looks like this treatment has taken. Bobby used to sing "I need a miracle every day" and looks like today it was Scott's turn on a miracle.

As Phil always gave his 'donor rap' at the end of each show, I want to thank that anonymous donor who provided Scott with his stem cells. Sure this donor had a loved one touched by this cancer and got tested (as did I, but not a good enough match) so he was in the 'bank.' The doctors treated that donor with some meds to supercharge his stem cells so these could be harvested and then sent (across the pond, it sounds like) to save Scott's life.

We have a ways to go, with more isolation in the hospital and then Scott must live within a 10 minute drive from the hospital in case of 'host rejection' by his new cells as they transmorgify his immunity system. But things are looking up here in the middle of America.

Appreciate all the kind words, healing vibes, and hopeful thoughts sent my brother's way.

This morning driving my big brother Scott

to the UNMC for blood work for Acute Myeloid Leukemia. They diagnosed him with this in November of 2023 and had some success with chemo, until this cancer mutated around that treatment. Scott is the best of us, humble, kind, curious, and genuine. Hope to get the cancer subdued enough to proceed to a stem cell transplant in a couple weeks. Please send healing thoughts, prayers, and good vibes this way.
