My 5th show, I remember faintly.
My friend Melanie's older brother was going, so we went together in his VW bug. The first and only time in my life I've ever fainted. We smoked a tremendous amount of weed; it was very hot and close, and the next thing I knew I was lying on the floor, with people going "Are you alright?" In a few minutes I felt normal again.
first show?
I was 13 years old and my father thought I should have a job. one of his card playing buddies had the concession to the long beach arena where he arranged to give me a job selling peanuts ( just like the circus). I showed up with my white shirt and tie and was admitted through an employee entrance. coming from a straight laced family I was in for a shock. The smoke, lights, colors, people, dancing and this just in the corridors, was overwhelming. I had no idea what acid rock was, and was definitely a bit freaked out. I managed to hang for about 20 minutes and realized I was out of my element. My mom must of sensed something because when I finally made it out side she was there waiting. So I am not really sure if this counts as my first show or not, it was not until 76 that I was reintroduced and from there on there was no looking back
pretty sure i was there..drive 50 miles..ooh ooh ooh

my first show
i was there. i was a teenager. i took my girlfriend, with whom i was madly in love. for many years i recalled sugar magnolia as a highlight of the show. now thanks to the miracle of archive.org i am blown away by the great truckin' > dark star > morning dew medley in the second set, that led into sugar magnolia. what a great memory.
I Was There
18 years old. Freshman in college. First rock concert. After numerous shows after this one, still consider it one of best Dead shows I saw.
I was also there.....
First Dead show. Was a sophomore in high school. Almost left after the first set until someone told us there would be a second set. What??? There is more???? Killer set list when I look back at it. (And The James Cotton Blues Band DID NOT open the show. The Dead was the only band.)
Wow… That sounds like the
Wow… That sounds like the crowd present at that venue had a great time. That is what I infer from the list of songs that were said to be played at the concert. Most of those songs in the list were super hits and still are.
