first show

to say that i was blown away would be the understatement of the year, before during and after this show i was metamorphasized into a deeper layer of consciuosness, the door was opened the insnaity began life became wonderful again, i had been tossed out of college depressed feeling left out feeling like i didn't fit then whammo the show, anyway here i am over half my life i've been in the "dead zone", a wife four kids and i still listen live it love it and play it, thanks for keeping it together, now i shall get home, fix a concotion sit down pull out my ole guitar pass the whiskey round.............

The greatest place on earth...well at least the east coast

in my humble opinion - this was the best venue east of the mississippi...truly amazing.

something about the Spaceship...

seemed to bring out the best in everyone.Didnt hurt it was the only GA show during the later years on the entire east coast. As I may recall. I used to have some really good night pics when all the different colors surrounding the coliseum were all lit up. Ready for takeoff fellas!!! They were more than happy to oblige! Everytime I drive past it on I-64, I tip ye ol hat. “The Omnipotent Grateful Dead!”

Sacred Ground

The vibe at Hampton was always special in a way that was neither West or East Coast. And I know some of you saw the rings around the moon a few times above the Coliseum after a show there, because we all stood there pointing...

Warlocks Revisited

the Warlocks shows were the best i ever attended in Hampton... and i attended nearly every Hampton show the Dead ever played!

Hampton

A big favorite of mine. And the Dead's. Although DEA was a heavy presence. People taking pictures of license plates?! No, they did not look too out of place. Part of the reason I moved to VA.

Portland, Maine

This was the summer I learned the dead. I did a road trip to Portland on a bus. Got up there with people. It's hard to remember details. One moment up front looking at Weir, then I'm freaking out. I turned around and told the guy behind me, "I'm freaking out". In a very organized manner, he grabbed me and passed my back saying "he's freaking out". And so it went until I ended up all the way back. I saw a guy sitting on the floor, not moving very much. I looked down at him and decided we should talk for awhile. I sat down and leaned on the wall. We didn't talk, but we did enjoy the show.

Got backstage passes, ran into local techs I know, got a headset and listened to lighting cues. Different way to see a show.

I was at every Hampton show since '83, 4-9-83, killer concert, the cd's I have of it are crystal clear.....and thank you to whom ever taped that because that was my 1st of around 40 shows, and I didn't remember a lot of it. That night I did the Electric Koolaid Acid Test.....12! I passed! Kept my shit together and the only music I remember was the Smokestack Lightning jam (only one ever played) and the end of the show. Well I did recognize Help-Slip-Franklin's. The encore Satisfaction was rockin'.I had had bootlegs since 1981 when after I had already read all the Beat lit. Electric K A T, Spit in the Ocean, which I have all 6 I'm publicly thanking the Dead for a lot of great times!

I was at every Hampton show since '83, 4-9-83, killer concert, the cd's I have of it are crystal clear.....and thank you to whom ever taped that because that was my 1st of around 40 shows, and I didn't remember a lot of it.
