I do I mainly specialize in seafood,(coquilles st. jacques,lobster bisque etc.).I love cooking,I love seafood,and I love the Grateful Dead,and I combine the three.Listening to cd's of Dick's Pick's in the kitchen,wearing tie-dyed chef coats,and conducting my existence in a laid back manner are my ways of bringing the delight of being a Deadhead to this millenium. I install new telephone systems in U.S. Embassy around the world. Both new ones and existing ones. I also help out testing the internal speaker systems for general announcement by plugging in my MP3 player and playing some Dead. Great way to check to see that each and every speaker in the Embassy is working. Of course I can only do this after hours, A lot of State Department people are lacking in any sense of humor. I have also been known to brief an Ambassador or two while wearing some tye-dyed GD t-shirts. That and an pony tail really seem to get to them :)

I work at Richland Newhope Center, and provide adult day services for individuals with MR/DD. It's a very rewarding job. It's not something that just any person can do-you defenitly have to have a heart for it. I absolutly love it. I know I'm making a difference in individuals lives everyday.

Well I have had many, creature at Knott's Scary Farm, Line cook at Magic Mountain, Set Dresser at Universal Theme Park, stage tech. for the Batman stunt show at Magic Mountain, Runner for TV shows, receptionist at a spring house, cashier at OSH, shipping and recieving clerk at Camp Pendleton, Sandwich maker, and now the job that I think suits me very well. I own a retail and wholesale plant nursery in NJ . Im kinda lucky because I love what I do for a living . Im 41 and have been working in the bussiness for 28 years . The work is fucken tough but the payoff is good . RE: gypsy soul Im with you , In miss the old under constuction format . To me it seemed a helluva lot easier and I got to know alot of the folks there . This too Im sure will be cool , this old dog just got to learn some new tricks.

I do lot's of things. Most of which are not gainful employment.I prefer to look at the stars, go hiking in the mountains, listen to the Dead, hang out with friends, go for a bike ride, read poetry, play the guitar. However to pay my bills I work as a Registered Nurse at a non-profit mental health agency. Before this I was the Conservation Director of an environmental group that worked on forest and wilderness issues. I have gone between these two worlds for years. I have had some great but stressful jobs. I continue to be involved in conservation, wildlife, forest and wilderness issues as a volunteer for the Sierra Club. Do I contradict myself? i work at a dunkin donuts. its amazing though, since every sunday we hook up the ipods to the speakers in the store and play 5-7 hours of the dead every week. we were amazed how many customers stop before they order and go...wait! this is the dead! i remember i saw em like...and stores just keep coming. its pretty amazing stuff.

"Hi, my name is Archure, I photograph everyone at no obligation, can I get you to put your arm around the lady and smile for the camera?" is what I say to people in the showroom before the show, then we sell the photos in the loby after the show. I just love my job, its so much fun, meeting so many people, and selling well posed photos to those who fall in love with them (we sell around 20% of what we take on a good day, typically). "Flowers last a week, but photos last a lifetime". And I think of all the photos I could have had, should have had, over the years, memories. I work for Cashman Photo www.cashmanphoto.com who has around 200 employees all over town (Las Vegas). They regularly hire, and experience is not always required (I think I have noticed that they have a prefrence towards people in the Arts, Music, etc, high IQ people, people who do, because its commission, I get a percent). Summer is busy season (they might need extra help), but it doesnt slow down till Nov or Dec. When seeing a show in Las Vegas, line up and get in early, then wave (or go up to) the photographer and ask for photos at no obligation (don't have to buy them unless you want to take them home). Don't wear all black (it blends with the surroundings and messes up the focus. Do wear nice attire (Las Vegas is formal and/or casual, where ever you go, mostly). Do wear Black & White (easy to focus, shows your shape), or Red, or Blue (photograph well), Purple and other colors may vary a slight bit on the hue. Look in the lens and smile (or just say a quick "no thanks" if you don't want photos taken, but there is no obligation). Its lots of fun, and I really appreciate the nice smile, the beautiful ladies, the nice attire, the nice people, and by all means, wear Grateful Dead attire if you want, that should photograph well. Lots of great shows in this town. I would like to see the Dead play here again (I have to work most nights, rock stars should have a day show, so all the night workers can go for the rock, also its an international town, English people are on Greenwhich Time, Japanese are on Tokyo Time, EC is on Tulsa Time, and I am Justin Time. I think there is a market in this town for shows at all hours, Brittish people wake up by 12 midnight and want something to do, by 6 AM they would love to see a show. Prefered Theaters: UNLV Thomas & Mac (saw the Other Ones there, great show, great showplace), the Sun Coast (good place, I saw Tower of Power there, and the Spazmatics (Hollywood Vegas band, friends of Pat Benatar), play all around town. ROCKERS, BEWARE of places like Boulder Station (the seats are so small, and tie wrapped together, so that there is no room, its very unpleasant, and I can't go see the great shows they book). House of Blues is cool, but rarely any place to sit (they advertize SEATS on the web, you show up, no seat, you stand, my girlfriend has MS, so we couldn't go). I saw Robin Trower at House of Blues (too much man, and low price), as well as Hot Tuna & Jefferson Airplane. The Cannery is a great show place, but I have not been there recently (I hope they don't over crowd like Boulder Station does. The Cannery is not owned by the Station Casinos (unless they took over). Station Casinos are Palace Station, Santa Fe Station, Boulder Station, Sunset Station, they are all off the strip (30 min drive), and they are very nice places, but the SEATING SUCKS TO HECK, its terrible (I wrote them and told them, I love the acts, but can't go, besides I work nights). Rockers, promote your concerts on radio, like KKLZ radio and The Point radio (rock stations). I don't like the MGM Grand theater, as the stands are real weak, I just hope they don't colapse (or if they have, I have not heard aobut it), and the MGM is very expensive. The Dead should play at the Thomas & Mac (if the University will allow it). I know Rat Dog played the Palms (nice smaller place), and I have not been to the New Orleans Arena (Van Halen plays there), but if its as nice as their regular showroom theater, then thats great. It seems I've found the upper crust of DH fans, editors in chief, environmental mgrs, rocket scientists...me, Im a Mom of young children, gratefully my job is to be at home with them. Ages 12, 10 and 2 ( and hopefully more..) If they only knew the DH me of years past, oy.. There's been many a night that baby Miles has drifted off to sleep to Brokedown Palace and the like, and when I can get a moment of the eldest's time I try to show her that there is far more out there than top 40, by bringing her to Ratdog shows..( "Mom, whats THAT smell???)..oy, again. So, that is my profession, chief family officer of my home in suburbia..soccer mom..diaper changer, listener of all dramatic problems of the pre-tween set, and amongst my refrigerator art, slews of pictures commemerating family events, laundry and Thomas the train sets..sits the black and white of Jerry, snapped in '86--. I have worked as a veterinarian since 2001. Graduated from UC Santa Cruz in 1992, ended up at veterinary school at Iowa State. My first year I did an equine internship in south florida, but now I work with small animals of all sorts. Its a rewarding career. I get to help animals and also people. It is never the same day twice. I have recently taken an interest in ultrasonography, and have been pursuing this. Still trying to get the word out to spay and neuter your animals, rescue or adopt........

out of college I was an EMT/EMT-P, then between burnout, and one too many back injuries, went back to school, got a law degree, while I work for a legal aid clinic, most of my work is actually spent securing restraining orders and other legal assistance to survivors of domestic violence. I also do a lot of child support enforcement, and never thought I'd take pleasure in sending someone to jail, but, I've gotten so sick of deadbeat parents that make babies thenmove on to the next babies momma that I have come to really enjoy throwing those smug sob's into jail. I've come to the conclusion that non payment of child support is a form of abuse.

i don't go to work, i go to school! i have the best job - i teach high school english - it's a wonderful way to spend my time and to serve my community. and of course, the music never stops in room 1607! jerry hangs on my classroom door to welcome everyone! the kids think he looks just like walt whitman who looks just like santa claus but not the santa claus in the tim allen movie but more like the one on the coke cans they put in in december...ahhh, kids! caroline

It seems that there is a large number of teachers on this board. I teach high school English just outside of Chicago. I love the fact that I get to spend my time talking about lit and writing, as well as music whenever possible. There is nothing better than at the end of each semester having kids come up and thank me for showing them it's ok to march to the beat of a different drummer, or in some cases drummers. I am a lighting director and studio manager of a local Florida TV station i was a stage hand in the big cold city for 20 something years but had to get out get worm had to go were the climate suited my clothes had to go were the chilly winds don't blow

Part of what got me on the Bus to begin with was that I knew I didn't fit with the world. In deep depression while working in a record store, I discovered Reckoning (acoustic version) and finally found something in this world that makes sense. I was hit in the head by a car at age nine, so I was kinda out of it. What I do now relates to these things as everything in life leads up to right now. I am an artist in abstract/minimalist drawings. I also make jewelry. I've written for Music League Magazine and done publicity for 7Records. I am now about to start training as a Christian Healer. I also am a Reiki Master. I used to be a massage therapist, but developing Fibromyalgia Syndrome made it too painful to continue. I plan to soon open a business selling jewelry, art, handmade clocks with gems to mark the numbers and, maybe, sell some poems or songs. That's about it for the moment, but it could increase by he time I wake up. Like is fun that way. Love ya, Uncle DeadHead.

I'm a construction manager for a real estate development company in Washington DC. I manage engineers, architects, and contractors. We build office & residential buildings. My job is long hours, hard work, high stress. It's also good pay, often working outdoors, and free coffee. My job is basically managing people. I can't do any of what my consultants do, so I have to motivate them and get them together to do it. I enjoy the people I meet...the heady architects, the stuffy attorneys, the hard-boiled contractors, and the laborers who (in my humble opinion) do the only honest work in the entire operation. I enjoy participating in designing and building real, big things. It's art and it's science.

I run an auto body & paint shop in west maui. I've been here for almost 6 years - it's pretty chill - my boss is gone to the mainland 1/2 the time and it's really nice to live here - i worked for a busy criminal defense atty in sf for 12 years and i quit in 2001 to move to maui - i wasn't sure what i would do here I am pleased to see so many of us are teachers . . . i imagine that you all are the teacher the student never forgets! I will never forget my 3rd grade teacher Mr. Rhodes - he had a cool handlebar mustache and played the guitar for us while we sang songs like bad bad leroy brown :) In addition, i am a mom which is my other full time job. My son, Jasun, will be 5 in october and keeps me on my toes- he loves to sing and dance hmm wonder where he gets that from???? Kudos to garciagirl, household CEO;)~KRISSY~

i am a bookkeeper for a local non-profit agency serving MR/DD adults. before that i lived on a commune making hammocks and nutbutter. before that i drove to the bus station for the green tortoise seattle. before that i was a television writer/producer. that last one sucked. now i am a first time mom trying to figure out how to parent, work and make ends meet. also, my latest gig is reading and posting on this site. hey now.

I noticed a lot of teachers on this board, but I wonder how many have taught for thirty eight years and are now retired? And how many of them taught physical education and coached basketball--not a profession one usually associates with the Grateful Dead (except maybe Phil Jackson). And how many can say they are over 70 years in age? Well, that fits my profile. And I have loved every minute of it.

In my experience a lot of Heads are engaged in formal religion, and a lot aren't. Sharing our perrspectives (rather than beating each other over the head with them...) is one of best parts of this whole thing as far as I'm concerned. So feel free to say more. In fact, I may start a topic...

I work for companies that produce games-role playing, board, and card games. I LOVE it! My collegues are an international gallery of intelligent and unusual folk (not unlike Deadheads in that respect), and I really enjoy that there is creativity, art, and writing involved in producing games. I also like that the finished product helps people relate and interact with each other. The gaming community accepts new people readily-not based on their social status, posessions, or what they look like, but due to the fact that they love to game. This industry has also brought me out into the world-taken me from Chicago to Atlanta to Germany to France, and next to Spain.

I teach 5th and 6th grade in San Diego, California. I have been doing this for 5 years now and it is always a challenge and is usually fun. Those kids keep me on my toes. As for the previous post from WalplolechinaCat, don't ever be ashamed of your faith. There is nothing wrong with faith:)

tj crowley have been in the addiction(s) frield now 19yrs...lived in nyc (astoria queens) deciding to return to college (dropped out '71 'lehman college' c u n y bronx) to find something to help in getting out of nyc with a trade. hunter college (communication's) lead to john jay university (family dynamics, addiction's). trained at graice square hosp (nyc) and interned at regent hosp (nyc). bought land on a mountian (poconos, n.e.Pa.) and secured position in addiction frield working initiall in county jails putting together intervention/prevention programs. 3rd child arrived ("how'd that happen?") and offered position in n.w.NJ working in a long term (10 - 14 months) in-patient treatment (alina lodge) and have been here now 8 years. for relaxation/fun (besides hanging w/ my now 9yo son) i do a radio broadcast from east stroudsburg university (where i entered to complete BS/BA -psychology/sociology/theology - that i dropped out from in '71) which highlights the sounds and vibes of the 60's/70's with a splash of the 50's and todays sounds. the show airs fried-days 6pm - midnite (e.s.t.) locally 90.3fm (w e s s ) and on the web www.esu.edu/wess. have beenb doing the grateful dead hour for 10+ years and the show has been voted best broadcast for 11+years. move over 'for-profit radio' .. college (the real fm) radio is bringing the sounds to the people.

i work in accounting.....its a stressful job...but i can bring my dog to work and thats priceless....esp cuase my dog is 13..

I am in college, again, again. Working on a Ph.D. I teach various courses like Social Psychology & Research Methods at two universities in Michigan.

i work as a receptionist in a dental office and i am a massage therapist. (i also sew, crochet, make jewelry, and do stained glass though these things have not been good sources of income since i never have the time to finish anything!)

i work for a blood bank here in alabama. it's a very meaningful job.i guess i had necer really thought about giving blood really saving lives, but it really is true. i see it everyday.i recently lost my mother on 01/01/07 (brain cancer), so it feels really good to be able to give back so someone can have more time with their loved one.

All those songs about trains... I work for the largest railroad around, supervising traffic through the rail yard. It's interesting that when I rode the train, we'd sometimes just get in a van or bus and ride from point A to point B. We call it Dead-Heading... everyone gets a kick out of me because I just jam on The Dead the whole way! ... not a bad way to make a day's pay! Scott

I work as a wildlife conservationist, mostly helping local efforts in developing countries to stop the tide of senseless destruction. Lucky me as I get to go all over the place, but am worrying whether any good I might do outweighs my outrageous air travel. Tapes, CDs and now MP3s travel with me. Great fun trying to pick Dead tunes suitable for so many weird, wonderful journeys, places and situations. When i am not away I am supposed to be writing a book, but seem to spend more and more time on this website............................

I'm a stay at home dad with a 10 month old son named Jerome (guess who he's named after!). Best thing thats ever happened to me. Well, besides my wife! He's an absolutely great kid, and I love spending time with him. Naturally he gets exposed to lots of the Grateful Dead's music, which is great fun for me because he really seems to like it, and I get to listen to lots of great music! My wife was smart enough to get a good education when she was younger, so she earns more and it makes more sense for her to work while I stay home with our son. I, on the other hand, have been trying to get an art career going for a few years now. Maybe one of these days I'll actually be successful at it.

Also work for the railroad. I get to move locomotives and get them ready for the crews to pick up. Not a day goes by that I don't think of a dead song at work... Mickey

i am a manager at victoria's secret at the shops on the peir in the casino caesers in atlantic city. i have to deal with irrate customers but for the most part its pretty neat i just get to chill out around sexy panties all day, haha.
