Post Card Message to the GD
Hello friends!I am new to the website, and this might be out of line but I am looking for your help. I am studying architecture, and my recent assignment was designing a post card that would describe home... This touched me at a profoundly emotional level, since I feel that I am very much "in between places": I was born and raised in Eastern Europe, but I haven't been there in about 7 years; I lived in Maryland with my husband for about 5 years, and we moved together to New England 2 years ago. We separated 6 months after the move, and I now have a roomate situation, while pursuing my degree... The past couple of years have been tumoltuous, and therefore I feel that I do not have a home... except for the music of the Grateful Dead. I was not born in a time or place that allowed me to ever see a true Grateful Dead show, but the spirit, the acceptance and the love I feel while listening to their music has trully given me the support of a family. Going to festivals and shows, meeting beautiful people and most of all beeing touched by the music have been life changing events.I regain direction and hope in life and mankind. So when it came to designing a post card describing home, I though of the Grateful Dead. This is where I need your help. If you were to write a post card to the GD, what would you say? Thank you for taking the time of reading my lenghty post, and I am looking forward to hear what you would say. Sincerely, Delia-May

jamasutra new cd is out Jas obrecht review
First, a quick background check: Barry “The Fish” Melton played lead guitar on the San Francisco scene’s first psychedelic record, and went on to play the Monterey and Woodstock festivals. His new “neo-psychedelic” release with Parisian guitarist/vocalist Stephan Missri and band is, in a word, extraordinary. It’s trippy, politically and socially conscious, and brilliantly played. Deadheads – Garcia freaks in particular – will love Melton and Missri’s flowing solos, epitomized by the Jerry-esque joyride of “Jamasutra Mantra.” Like the early Allman Brothers Band and Steve Hunter-Dick Wagner with Lou Reed, Melton and Missri create intriguing two-guitar interplay without venturing into overkill. They freak-out Hendrix-style on “Vert,” and Barry resurrects his wicked vibrato of yore for “Le Dernier Homme en Ville.” His sea shanty-cum-ecological call to arms “Shady Grove” recalls his Country Joe & The Fish era and then segues into one of the album’s best jams. International feels abound. Algerian-born Missri sings mostly in French, with a smooth, smoky voice. Rhythms and melodies seamlessly embrace rock, blues, psychedelic, Middle Eastern, and African influences. “This was truly a trans-Atlantic effort for me,” says Melton, who’s worked as a public defender in northern California. “Much of my early music was influenced by Middle Eastern music, which becomes immediately apparent were you to see me with Country Joe in the 1967 movie Monterey Pop.” Danish bassist Charles Jannic and French drummer Christophe Rossi excel at everything – hats off to these guys, as well as to Melton and Missri for their fine, fine playing and producing. Order this Seafood Records release at www.barrymelton.com and www.jamasutra.com.

Howdy,Thanks Marye, yeah Ive contacted Norton Simon and others but they wont do appraisals. That is the direction I am heading in.The locals here in Reno have no clue or desire to pursue.I figure there might be a Bay area art dealer who might be a better source.I need some leads before I go over the hill to SF.Anything would be welcome. Thanks again George.

Howdy,I have this photo by Thomas Weir ( not Bobs brother) that I have been doing some research on.It seems he is the same artist that took the back album photo on AOXOMOXOA. It is an artists proof dated 1967.From my searches I have found it in a few museums. The picture is a framed print titled Renne Oracle.I know Mr Weir was not as prolific as the big 5,Mouse,Griffen ect.It was givin to me as a gift from the late Chesley Milliken. I know it has some value,I just need to be pointed in the right direction to someone that has some knowledge on this subject. It might be for sale if I can find a realistic value. Hopefully this is the correct forum to post this.

For all you Kindle owners out there, I recently published "The Hallucinogenic Bible", a novel, on Amazon.com. It is a fictionalized narrative of 3 college kids following their favorite band around the country for 4 weeks. It is based on 20 plus years of following the Dead, Phish, and Dead-related bands, and in the course of the narrative, it discusses the scene, music, drugs, cops, friendships, and spirituality entailed in it all. Thanks for letting me promote! http://www.amazon.com/The-Hallucinogenic-Bible-ebook/dp/B004IE9VOU/ref=… J.T. Gossard http://thehallucinogenicbible.blogspot.com/

howdy. i do a lot of vending at shows. i sell signed psychedelic art, blotter art and rare and various psychedelic relics from the likes of the kesey family, tim leary, deadhead artists like mikio, mike dubois and stanley mouse, and i also wind up with a variety of odds and ends like signed first edition hardbacks of albert hofmann's lsd: my problem child. my stock shifts from time to time, but i've always got something weird and interesting. if you're interested, drop me an email c/o popeshady@blotterati.com or go visit popeshady.com and blotterati.com to see if i've gotten my web presence together yet. cheers! ____________________________________________ groovin' the light fantastic at http://www.popeshady.com and http://people.tribe.net/shadygrove

This is a theoretical question for the moment, but might be of interest to others also--do you take special orders? Specifically, I'm thinking the designs on the tapestries would look great on curtains, which would be much bigger pieces of fabric. Is that practical?

Your shirts are incredible! Will definitely be buying some. Thank you for posting. Oh by the way, I lived near Burlington, Wisconsin for 9 years in my childhood, actually close to Alpine Valley before there were shows there. Dates me. Peace to you and keep on, keepin on with your dyes. If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. Wiliam Blake

Mary, they do look great as curtains :-) I sold off the bigger stuff I had this past summer. I've been wanting to get back to the basement and get the gears rolling again. The only problem with special orders is the time and material cost and the potential for an item to not turn out or to not be what someone else envisioned. I've told people in the past that it is best to look at what I have and see if there's anything they like. I would have no problem with suggestions or inquiries though. Here's a link to the biggest dye I've made so far...I think it's 7'x15' The file is 447 KB in size Tie Dye Hal, They built Alpine when I was 10...

I have a new CD of original songs that follow in the spirit of the 60's music scene. This is fitting, since that was my "coming of age" time. Check out samples, download tracks, the whole disc, or even get a real hard copy of it at:http://www.cdfreedom.com/artists/garyblanchard/ Gary Blanchard http://www.cdfreedom.com/artists/garyblanchard/
