Red Rocks, star date 1984: the band has successfully secured a campground approximately l/4 to l/2 mile from the incredulous site of Red Rocks. Meandering thru an array of vans and colors, my eyes came to focus on slender fingers, moving to stretch delicately around the steering wheel of a dandy rectangle tour vehickull. Amazed at the fingernails, beginning to focus on their individual stature (huh? wuz dat? Dats a whot?) I leaned my head forward to the window. A friendly aura emitted itself with the now eye contact of - agasp - an aguana, slanting hiz eyes at me. I put a picture on my desk, which i gave to another co-worker. Those stupid straight people decided to make that the "wierdo came back from tour and we are going to find our love affairs" symbol. Pity the animal and hiz family. Keep your friendships somewhot safe and inclusive! These delightful creatures look like englishmen. makes yah wonder.

the originals, man.....barnums animals are da kine. you used to be able to cut the bottom of the box and fold down the wheels...and there were 2 or 3 different boxes with different animals. now it's only half a wheel and the animals are all smilin'....which is cool i guess. i think they did away with the string handle too....bastards!!......shit , now i gotta go to the store..........

Folks, especially those who know what it is to lose a dog, please check out this link, in which jbird, who's new hereabouts, puts out the word on his dog Odessa, who escaped from the dogsitter while he was at the show and was last seen in the possession of a couple in the parking lot. Anything we can do to effect a reunion is good. Thank you.

my Rex celebrates his 15th on the same day!

Koki the dog caught his foot in a piece of metal when running around on Saturday evening and tore out one whole claw. I saw it happen and it still makes me squirm to think about it. I managed to patch him up and get him to a vet who treated him, gave him a shot and said he was very brave and that the claw will grow back but it will be very very painful for a week or so. He is sleeping a lot and coming for strokes a lot. I can see that it really hurts and that he is very miserable. I have to change the dressing tomorrow which I am dreading. Luckily he is not dreading it cos he has no idea that's going to happen. Poor dog! Does anyone know of anything herbal I can give him to make him feel a little better?

If the vet didn't give you any pain meds for him, you might just give him aspirin. True, not herbal, but might help. Healing vibes to poor Koki.

for your suggestions and sympathies. I did not know you could give aspirin to dogs. He seems to be a bit better today anyway. Unfortunately Buddy's suggestion is unlikely to work since Koki is castrated and he chases French poodles since he does not consider them to be real dogs, but rather a strange species of rabbit and therefore fair game.

who celebrates his 15th birthday today. (He's a shelter dog; we know within a few weeks how old he is, so I figured there was no better day on which to celebrate his birthday.) The birthday boy and his sister are presently sleeping off a hearty breakfast that was preceded by a trip to the neighborhood dog park. He gave me a bad scare in April with a strange seizure whose effects lingered for days, but has amazed and delighted his vet and me with a full recovery. He's still old, his hind legs are still creaky, and he has these moments of geriatric brain lapse. But he still jumps up and comes up tail a-waggin' when it's walk time, and the other day, when I had brought some new treats home, amazed me by plopping his arthritic butt on the floor and commencing to volunteer every trick he ever learned.

obviously the term "stupid dog" does not apply in this case

being half border collie, is anything but stupid.

we have quite a few pets here I know it sucks to see them in pain. poor dog, Hope he gets to feelin better very soon . Best wishes to Koki !!

for your special adopted birthday. Here's to many more! and thanks Stuman for the wishes for Koki. I am away working right now, but Mrs Badger tells me he is much better, limping a little, but back to his normal tricks. It's so hard to understand how animals feel pain. The vet told me she thought it must be same for dogs, but that they make a lot less fuss than many of us.

Happy Birthday Rex! I love border collies... I've know two that owned humans and they are the some of the smartest animals in the galaxy for sure! My yorkie is almost 100% after a second surgery to her left ear. A tumor surfaced after her ear canal removal to both ears just before Halloween of last year. I didn't fare nearly as well as she did and I was nearly undone by this latest foray into deeper depression and financial debt. I feel so guilty for feeling any stress from the latter but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't part of our ordeal, complete with my foul mood at times. I really should know by now to follow her lead... she was way better than me at dealing with this stress.She's had a few good weeks now and I feel somewhat confident to report on her latest condition. Candy & I adopted "Chunk" from CHUG Rescue, he is the brother of Muffin a "CHUG" female we adopted 7 months ago. He is very terrified of men. He will sometimes approach me if I throw him a treat. He loves my wife and daughter but gets very loud and scared if i get close unless they hold him. He will let me pet him if they are holding him. He doesn't snarl or bare his teeth. any suggestions? especially, of course, if a previous male owner abused or scared him. It may be a matter of men being bigger and louder, who knows. Since he's not so scared as to be acting aggressive, fear-biting, etc., I'd suggest becoming the official dispenser of all good stuff. As in, when it's dinnertime, your wife or daughter hands you the food dish and YOU give it to Chunk. When he's on one of their laps, ply him with treats. What kind of dog is a CHUG? Chi-pug?

Marye and all It's a Chihauaha and Pug mix pretty common in Miami Since I posted that in the early afternoon alot og good has happened I would call Chunk in a high pitched voice (Hahaha ) and toss him a biscuit. He would not come in the house from our backyard so I left the sliding glass door open. I got back on my phone and computer to work . Once he got in the house I would every half hour or so toss pieces of biscuits to all of the dogs and some over to Chunk who kept his distance. Candy got home from work about 8 pm. Of course the zoo came out to adore and worship her. We sat on the couch eating dinner and Chunk very gingerly came over and let me pet him. He would back off and kind of crawl over to me. He is more relaxed however if I make a sudden movement say to get up off the couch he really backs off and barks. I can only imagine what past cruelty has caused this reaction. What an improvement. it's sounds like he's progressed to giving you the standard submissive behavior (or hey, be glad he's not submissive-peeing...) and his confidence is picking up. They don't in general like sudden moves, but in my experience they figure out the routine ones are okay. Keep us posted on the little guy. How many dogs do you have?

I've always been a believer in the high-pitched voice, treats, and no sudden moves when dealing with dogs who are afraid of men. I had a dog who was always leery of my brother-in-law (who is a dog-guy, so it's not like he gave off dog-hating vibes), IMO because he has a gruff-sounding voice and just can't bring himself to let out the girly-voice we all know he has bottled up inside him. In our household anyway, high-pitched voice always seems to be used when we praise our dogs, and the gruff stuff is what we use to signal displeasure. But I think that I can live without EVER hearing what my high-pitched voice sounds like to the rest of the world....every once in a while I'll realize I'm using it and I start feeling more than a little bit foolish.

some things about having a deaf dog are darn convenient...

As a man with allergies to cat and canine dander I can only say it was my lot in life to fall in love with a pet person. We have always had at least two dogs and 2 cats.Thanks to the internet we now talk with a few rescue societies every day. So of course my wife and 18 year old daughter are constantly cooing and talking about all the pets for adoption. When I am listening to the Dead or engrossed in a football game and my daughter sits next to me and says "Dad we need to talk" I may as while hoist the white flag. Sooner or later I will be pulled to the monitor to look at the cutest most adorable cat/dog to ever live and it needs a home. Of course I like and even love some of them. Sometimes I wish I was my pet but then I don't have opposable thumbs so I couldn't turn on my stereo. Starting with the oldest- Pumpkin is an almost ferile orange and white male cat who is quite the tough guy-he may boss the other pets around and howl a lot but if you are a stranger or a possum or other dog he will go after you and right for your eyes. At least twice a day he very stealthily approaches me to be petted. He loves Ivory our blind white female cat and whatever Scottie male we have. Both cats are rescues. When our 2 year old Scottie, Barney died suddenly in April; Pumpkin moaned mournfully for at least 10 minutes and periodically for days after that. Muffin and Chunk are a brother and sister Chug Mix rescued. They are one years old. Muffin is skittish but very sweet. Chunk is afraid of men but twice today he climbed on the couch,put his head on my leg and slept while I watched the Beatles Anthology on VHI. Boomer or Boo is a pure bred champion Scottish Terrier who is quite small and very well behaved. He is the only pet I have ever allowed to sleep in my bed. I never thought I would have this many pets but they are very loving and it is rewarding to have them And the road goes on forever.... BobbaLee

passed away on july 12th 2010. He was the greatest dog ever. He was the greatest tour buddy i ever had. Through thick and thin over the past thirteen years he was by my side, and i mean by my side. I got him from a shelter when he was 6 months old and were inseparable ever since. I brought him where ever i went people would give me shit when i would blow off events that weren't dog friendly, but hey he was my family. I will never forget the summer we spent at lake tahoe, we were only passing through but the town was so dog friendly we stayed all summer just having fun ,were else i could take my dog bar hoping. How about the summer we drive coast to coast ( i live in new england) stopping at shows, and rainbow gatherings, yellowstone,and all places in between. Everyday since he left at about this time i think of him and start to cry. My wife says i am dealing with it better than she thought i would. I have his ashes sitting on our crystal shelf along with his paw print. I dont think i can write any more because it just hurts to much. I will allways miss you Tiger.

I lost my Rex in March, and the 14 years we had together weren't nearly enough. I thought Callie (the Dallie), who has been a diva from puppyhood, would do well as an only child, but no she did not. She was still looking for Rex weeks later, and saying as plain as day, "It's broken. Fix it." She turned from the baby to an old lady (she IS 12...) virtually overnight, decided that a lot of moving around was too much trouble, and generally was really depressed. And I was no better. So we found another border collie/Lab in need at Border Collie Rescue, and now Cash, the Dog in Black, is in residence. Callie is restored to her former self, and he's a pretty great dog. No one could replace Rex, though, and I'm sure it's the same with your Tiger...

so sorry, man........ima say an extra prayer in the mornin' at mass....hey!...mebbe he's playin' frisbee wif jerry now.............

our 19 year old cat had what seems to be a stroke on Saturday. He is senile and deaf, and now lame, but seems to be at peace, so we have decided to care for him as long as it takes. Friends please vibe him that it is a long long time!! I brought him to Europe with me, from America, and he and his brother helped me alot to adjust to my new life-and though his brother died a few years ago, China has stuck with me until now. He is a loving guy-used to follow my daughter around with the devotion normally seen more in dogs than cats. If I lose him, I will flounder. My dog's a Parson Jack Russell Terrier named Rhett (after Rhett Butler). He's about 12, getting older and lazy. Still the cutest little guy around, friendly and fun.
