Week of December 21-27, 2020
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where we roll through Christmas with some great 1980s Grateful Dead, from 1984, 1985, and 1988.
Our first stop this week is on 6/14/84 at Red Rocks, where the Dead play this excellent sequence of Shakedown Street ; Playing In The Band > Dear Mr. Fantasy, including the Dead’s first performance of Dear Mr. Fantasy.
Next is another famous sequence featuring Shakedown Street, where we have the start of the second set from 6/30/85 at Merriweather Post Pavilion, featuring Shakedown Street > Samson And Delilah ; Gimme Some Lovin' > He's Gone > Cryptical Envelopment.
Lastly this week is the excellent start of the second set from 6/20/88, the second night of a four night run at Alpine Valley, where we have Victim Or The Crime > Cumberland Blues; Blow Away> Ship of Fools; Truckin' > Terrapin Station. This is the second Dead performance of Victim Or The Crime (debuted 6/17/88) and the debut of Brent’s Blow Away. Other songs debuted at this run include I Will Take You Home and Foolish Heart.
