    taper’s section today

    hooray for 3/18/77 massive jam!

also, hooray for 2/27/90 first set, including one of the finest textbook Sugaree’s of any era. You could teach a class on this particular version, it is so good.

    March 77

So wish they would release 3-18/19/20-77. Amazing shows that need the full Norman!

    Yay - more Family Dog

Great to hear finish to 3/1/70. As far as I can tell the Dancing in the Streets and Baby Blue do not circulate as SBD recordings? That may be slowest reading of Baby Blue I think I've ever heard. Oh and look what turned up in today's 30 Days?!

Week of November 27-December 3, 2023

Welcome back to the Taper’s Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1970, 1977, and 1990, all fine Bay Area Dead.

Our first selection this week is from 3/1/70 at the Family Dog in San Francisco, where we have Uncle John's Band, Dancing In The Street, It's All Over Now, Baby Blue.

Next up is the second set jam from 3/18/77, opening night of a three night run at Winterland in San Francisco, a great sequence of Terrapin Station> Drums > Not Fade Away> Saint Stephen> Around And Around, Uncle John's Band.

Lastly this week is the first set from 2/27/90 in Oakland, the 1990-opening run, featuring Let The Good Times Roll ; Feel Like A Stranger ; Sugaree ; Victim Or The Crime ; Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodleloo ; When I Paint My Masterpiece ; Bird Song.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

I was at that second show. I believe it was the only time they played the Terrapin suite, or most of it anyway. The album had not yet come out. After it did, when I saw them do Terrapin, I was surprised and disappointed that they left off the last part.
