Week of October 3-9, 2022
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from the early 1980s, mid 1980s, and late 1980s, a triple dose of Brent-era Dead.
Our first selection this week is from the 11/26/80 in Pembroke Pines, FL, the first show after the Dead’s long runs at the Warfield and Radio City, featuring Space> Drums > Space > Wharf Rat> Around And Around> Good Lovin', Satisfaction, including the first Dead rendition of the Stones’ classic.
Next is the cool and unique sequence to end the show at Alpine on 7/6/84, featuring Space > Dear Mr. Fantasy > The Other One > Black Peter > Why Don't We Do It In The Road > Sugar Magnolia, Touch of Grey.
Lastly this week is the excellent second set opening sequence from 12/27/89 in Oakland, the first show of the Dead’s four night New Year’s run, featuring Iko Iko, Playing In The Band>Crazy Fingers>Uncle John’s Band>Drums, including the Big Man on sax on the opening number.
Be sure to join us here next week for more tunes from the vault.
