Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this wee we have music by the Grateful Dead from New York City in 1969, and a double dose of New Jersey Dead in 1976 and 1991.
Our first stop is on 6/20/69 at the Fillmore East in New York, where we get some great transitional Dead, when they were heading toward the sound of 1970 with the country-tinged music that would define much of late 1969 and 1970 Grateful Dead. The Old Old House, Sitting On Top Of The World, King Bee, Dire Wolf, Mama Tried, High Time, Dupree's Diamond Blues. As an added bonus, we hear Weir singing lead on Dire Wolf.
From the comeback tour in June 1976, we have music from the middle night at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ, featuring the end of the first set: Looks Like Rain, Row Jimmy, Cassidy, Mission In The Rain, The Promised Land.
Lastly this week is the start of the second set from 6/16/91 at Giants Stadium, featuring Jack Straw ; Crazy Fingers ; China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider. The next night is mostly discussed in this run, but the 6/16/91 show also featured some great playing, as did most of this tour.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
