Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have some mid-to-late Brent-era Grateful Dead from 1985, 1988, and 1990.
Our first stop this week is on 6/22/85 at Alpine Valley in Wisonsin, where we have the end of the show, featuring Space > Dear Mr. Fantasy > I Need A Miracle > Stella Blue > Throwing Stones > Not Fade Away, Brokedown Palace. The encore gets cut off on our reference backup in the vault, but it’s intact on the master PCM.
Next is the entire first set from 6/19/88, the opening night of a four night run at Alpine Valley, the Dead’s longest run outside of California or New York since 1981. From this show we have Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodleloo ; Feel Like A Stranger ; Never Trust A Woman ; Ramble On Rose ; Little Red Rooster ; Bird Song ; The Promised Land.
Lastly this week is the first set from opening night of a two night run at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, OR, on 6/23/90, a month before Brent passed away, where we have Feel Like A Stranger ; West L.A. Fadeaway ; Me And My Uncle > Cumberland Blues ; Far From Me ; They Love Each Other ; Cassidy ; Tennessee Jed >Promised Land.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
Loving this Alpine 88! I attended this 4 show run and while it was uneven there were some amazing segments and was a very memorable weekend in Wisconsin. Thank you so much for posting this and please post more shows from Summer tour 88!
