Well here goes folks. I’ve been piecing this one together, and with the help of two great connoisseurs and sharing kind souls, this one is ready to roll. The first kind soul, is a great friend of mine from Seattle named ….well we’ll call him MIKE. The other is my personal “Captain Sully” of the Dead.net vineyard community ltapilot. Great thanks to both for making this goal of mine to get quality recordings this entire run possible. This swing is when I got on the bus, and I feel very blessed to have seen some of these shows. The band seemed fired up every night. Such great hot summer nights under pavilions and stars. This was really the last summer tour which played a lot of these smallish outdoor venues. After 1985 we bid farewell to shows at Merriweather Post and the Blossom Music Center. We were t

    Twenty Years So Far
My very first show was during this tour in the Fall.November '85. Pembrook Pines, Florida at the Hollywood Sportatorium. I went with a few friends that I had met in Art School in Fort Lauderdale. "Big Steve" a taper from Massachusetts, and Steve, a hippie from upstate NY. I had heard so much about the shows and was really looking forward to the experience and honestly a bit nervous. As soon as I walked through the doors i was in awe. Everyone was so happy to be there. But not like any other "concert" i had been to previously. This was very different. There was a "VIBE" in the air that was not describable but felt sooo good. within 15 minutes, this guy runs up to me as if he could tell this was my first show, and put a wrist band on my wrist and said "You'll need this". At first I was nervous. "did this guy just dose me or something"? I thought to myself. Because of some of the stories I had heard.Only to find out it was so I could get down on the floor. I wondered the floor in amazement of everything that was going on around me. Then I found myself front stage center right in front of Bobby. "Wow" I thought as I looked to the right side of the stage, "So that's Jerry Garcia, how cool is this?" From then on it was all about the music the rest of the night. After the show I ran into an old friend on shakedown street whom I hadnt seen for years. She and her boyfriend were living out of their VW bug and hand painting t-shirts while on tour. I gave them a place to crash for the night and when I woke in the morning they were gone and had left me one of their shirts and a sunflower along with a small note that simply said "PEACE" with x's and o's. To this day, I have yet to see her again. Thanks for the memory PEACE! xoxo ArtistAJL
