I love Bobby doing Bobby songs, but it really throws me when I hear Bobby doing a Jerry tune. I was just listening to the sirius dead channel 32 when Bobby comes on doing franklins tower. I'm sorry every time I hear him rock out a jerry song, they lose something. They stopped useing the name Grateful Dead when Jerry passed. I'd rather them use the name and give his songs a break. I'm sorry if this offends you, its just how I feel. I love you Bobby Jerry, Brent, Vince, Ron and Keith We all miss you dearly. Thankyou for the good times and sirius channel 32

At O'Hare ariport in Chicago a few weeks ago, I stopped at a Chicago Field Museum souvenir stand and was eyeballing a funky stuffed animal... the vendor told me it is a "Bat Eared Fox" from Africa. He then told me that Bob Weir had been through the previous week and bought one! Didn't even take a bag, but just walked through the airport proudly carrying his new Bat Eared Fox (pictured in link). He had no way of knowing that I'm a fan of Weir's or of the Dead, so I don't think he would have made it up... when I got back to the Gate and told my kids, they gave me that glazed over "oh, he's talking about the Dead again" look, but I thought it was pretty neat. http://store.fieldmuseum.org/itemdetail.cfm?nItemid=1540&viewby=categor…

Thanks Bob and the rest of the band for making it up to Vancouver BC earlier this year (Feb.18) at the Commodore Ballroom. I truly recommend that DeadHeads world wide make this a concert destination. The super cool vibe of the finest music on the planet,in such a beautiful city and of course, the world's primo pot, BCBUD makes it a must experience, experience!

Last chance to have a message/photo added to The birthday book for Bobby Weir. I've finished the 1st 30 pages and am working on completing it by Oct 1st. There have been so many contributions- I'm thinking I might have to make it volume 1 & 2!! Just want to be sure EVERYONE who would want to be included sees this. It will get to Bobby by 10/16. Send pix or a message or both to Weirfreaks@mac.com

http://www.stopthespraymarin.org/ Suffice it to say that the populace of the Bay Area is increasingly upset about the state's plans to spray them Apocalypse Now style, for years and years, with inhalable microscopic plastic pellets of pheromones to upset the sex lives of the LIght Brown Apple Moth, not to mention other more overtly toxic stuff. Apparently when they sprayed Monterey and Santa Cruz counties last year, people got sick, animals died, etc. Environmental impact report? What environmental impact report? Just about every city and county in the area has passed a resolution opposing this, and there are numerous bills pending in the legislature. However, the feds are taking the position that if Californians won't spray themselves the feds will spray 'em. It's all about... TRADE. The Benjamins. Etc. Which to my mind is serious thuggery, but what a surprise. Anyway, I am pleased to see there's an upcoming benefit concert for the anit-spraying forces in Sausalito with Bobby, Maria Muldaur, Peter Coyote hosting, and who knows who else, so, heads up. June 8!

Holy shit I am getting old. Just saw a picture of Bobby the other day. What the !@#$. Wow. Holy shit!!!!!! But then again when I look at my own photo from 10 years ago I think the same thing. Bobby keep chugging onward and I hope that you play in Dubai or somewhere in Asia so that I can come see ya again. !@#$ set some dates in Europe. As SPAC is in Hells Angels country, I will never forget at a show in 95 there was this Hells Angels chick melting on stage in front of bobby and I recall trying to figure out what the hell she was doing and etc etc. Then we decided to take a break from that action as "Black Bird" and in fact Bobby shows were more relaxed etc so we took our show back to the trees (if anyone has ever been to SPAC you know what I am talking about) and had a session. Then another Hells Angel walked up to us (us being my good friend and his girl friend and my girl friend (sisters) and myself. Have lost contact with all a long time ago.) and asked me to keep an eye out for him then proceeded to do something shady and I just could not figure out what he was doing. I had my ideas of course. Well I could not really figure out what I was doing at the time either, but I had my ideas of course. So then he came back to us and said "this has never happened to you before and will never happen to you again," and then dropped an 8 ball in the corner pocket! That was a long night I will tell ya. It was not a night in a pink Cadillac with a White Duck but it was amusing. He was right, never happened again!!!!

It's really not my intent to create negative vibes, but here's something all Deadheadsneed to know about: http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2004/07/292888.shtml I'm only going to post this once and then will leave this forum as I'm sure I'll be censored anyhow. If you don't know what the Bohemian Grove is, go to YouTube and search it. What you need to know is that your beloved Bobby + Mickey actually party with the most corrupt and evil legal criminals of the world - George Bush, Dick Cheney, Henry Kissinger, and the list goes on. The folks known as the Illuminati who are responsible for orchestrating the wars and economic destruction happening to America and attack on the US Constitution that could bring martial law and the end of our inalienable freedoms according to the law. Their aim is world domination, economic exploitation and enslavement of the world and according to many reports, a desire to bring about the extinction of about 90% of the population. Basically the elite evil-doers of this world. I think Deadheads have a right to know why they are there. I had hoped to give this some benefit of the doubt and hope that maybe they were trying to use their personal clout to affect positive change and to try to reason with these folks. But from the many reports I'm seeing it sure doesn't look that way. I found this to be very shocking and felt an obligation to share it with the Deadhead community. I can find no justification for this. People like Bobby and Mickey who are supposed to be role models and icons of peace and love and enlightenment should for damn sure have enough personal integrity and moral values to refuse invites like this and to make a positive statement. This is the equivalent of partying with the Third Reich. I will say no more of it and I will now leave this forum. But I believe I deserve the chance to speak my piece. The bottles stand as empy as they were filled before. Time there was a plenty and from that cup no more. Though I could not caution all, I still might warn a few - Don't lend your hand to raise no flag atop no ship of fools. Save Mother Earth. Resist the New World Order.

he said he was going to only post once, and I've read it at least twice. Once is fine; people can post all kinds of stuff. However, spam is another matter and has a short shelf life hereabouts, and such is likely to happen to this. Or its clones. Rock on...

It's funny. In the 60s it was the John Birchers who wrote stuff like this; Illuminati, the Rothschilds; one world government; etc., etc., etc. I guess it's true that paranoia knows no bounds! "I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in."

Hey Pocky Way/ Women are Smarter If you don't know, don't bother. These two songs, on a good night really show how much Brent and Jerry had a major connection. Brent would just fuel Jerry's fire and vice verse. It gives me chills to see Jerry so happy and animated. By the way, I have friends that hate Brent's voice, but I feel he is incredibly under appreciated. I love his voice, it seems to melt beautifully with Bob and JG. Regardless of your views on the vocals, the only player as good or better, in my opinion would be Hornesby. JG and Brent would just start a back and forth that Bob seemed oblivious to. Watch the DVD's if you don't believe. Peace, Kenton

Brent & Jerry, Jerry & Brent. If you don't know what I'm spouting you might want to check back. I know there are a lot of people out there that don't appreciate Brent. Well, I got news for you, Brent gave Jerry what he needed. If you were lucky enough to see The Band from 88 to 90 you should know what I mean and if you don't you were too high or you haven't seen the videos'. Brent rocked Jerry and Jerry rocked Brent. They had a connection that Bobby wished he had with JG. I watch the videos' and it gives me chills to see how happy Jerry is playing with someone as talented as Mydland. Yes, he is similar when playing with Hornesby, but Brent was there for over 10 years and JG loved him. As much as I love 77 and 73 my favorite thing to see is JG smile and look at Brent and jam on.

I think it's 1 anyway, from 3 rivers stadium. Jerry and Brent connections...priceless. Same in the Radio City dvd and truckin' up to Buffalo. Unfortunaltly I never got to see Brent live, I was just getting into the Dead the summer 90 when he died. Looking back and listening to the boy's from a historical perspective, the late 70's through the 80's are the best years for me. I know several will disagree and that's fine, notice I said for me. Since this is a Bobby topic, I feel I should say something about him as well... I love him although I really, really wish he'd stop dragging Jeff Chimenti into every Dead revival. What is this guy? Bobby's security blanket? The Summer 04 tour with the Dead? They sh*t canned Baracco for Chimenti? That made absolutly no sense. When They first came back in '02 after the big Terripan Station at Alpine Valley thing, I saw several show with the Chimenti/Barraco lineup. Baracco would be playing his heart out, singing his a@* off, freaking Chimenti would be sitting there trying to catch up. I said it before and I'm sticking to it, it's like getting a 1st grader to play with the high school band. Allman should be sitting in at PSU, why not Warren's pulling double duty? Okay I know why, his stlye of playing may interfere with the sound. At least call back Barraco, he obviously still has a great love and passion for the music despite being given the ax being a valuable member of DSO. I gave up my security blanket at age 6. Bobby how old are you? Okay my Saturday morning rant is done. 9 more days!!! Hell yes!!

UJS, I agree that Jerry & Brent were an INCREDIBLE team. I loved watching and listening to them play off of each other - it was truly magical. BUT - I'm gonna defend Bobby here. His interplay w/ Garcia is truly magical, as well. Weir's style lent itself SO wonderfully to Garcia's!!! They complimented each other and that's the beauty of the GD - EVERYONE complimented each other SO well....the interplay with each and every member off of each and every other member is what made the GD magical. Now, for the Chimenti/Baracco rant. First, let me say - I like BOTH of these guys a lot. BUT - Rob Baracco PLAYS HIS ASS OFF. And I don't mean that as a compiment. He's too busy. He never seems to stop. Great chops, but VERY little dynamics. Chimenti is more of a subtle player and is a better listener, IMHO. He may not have all the chops as Rob, but he's tasty. NEITHER of those guys are on the level of Brent Mydland or Melvin Seals (two guys who REALLY knew/know how to listen and utilize dynamics to the fullest degree), so at some point ya just gotta get over that...I know it's hard, but ya just gotta. It's my same beef w/ Warren. GREAT player. Chops galore. Too busy, not enough DYNAMIC interplay. Some of my favorite moments of a GD show were when you could hear a pin drop in the middle of a He's Gone or Stella Blue or even songs like They Love Each Other & Looks Like Rain. THAT'S what I want from a band. Too much "full-throttle" gets old quick to me. Raise the roof, then bring it back down. Let it breathe. 9 MORE DAYS!!! SEE YA THERE!!! ~ Pappy www.theCAUSEjams.com "Once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places, if you look at it right." - Robert Hunter

terrific point and well made. No disrespect to any players, but BB King often talked about "playing with the space between the notes" (!) and in BB's playing and Garcia's had that hesitation, the patience, (the space), letting the note decay (or fade away ;o}) which does bring a that anticipation that I have always loved with the Dead. And Bobby definately understands "too much to fast" and has wonderful and tasty chops that add to much. Thanks for that insight Pappy, it really hits home with me as well. Enjoy the show everyone, this is just grate!!!!!!!!!

Agree, it's all about the space, the space is what makes this group of musicians constantly evolve and "play" with their songs for decades and constantly get a different feel. If you isolate Bobby and just listen to his playing, it is always completely unexpected, you can hear him playing in that space. This is a rhythm guitar player mind you. That is why I believe he is the best rhythm player I have ever heard, by far.

that plays rhythm like Bobby. He IS totally unique and I echo your sentiment, pk, "he is the best rhythm player I have ever heard, by far." No doubt. Shimmering, harmonic, subtle, and vital that he elevates the remarkable ensemble playing of the band. (unintentional dead reference but recognized as soon I typed it ;o} ).

I totally agree that Weir has, always had, a tru;ly unique playing style. (Didn't all of the boys?) Weir would strike those cords with remarkable altruism, giving everybody else the space to move around and create wonderful sounds. In my foolish youth, I used to think Weir was a bit of a hack, (forgive me Father, for I have sinned) but as I've grown up I've come to appreciate him more and more. 5 fingers from one hand, as Phil would say. Truly remarkable. If you look at the opening licks of China Cat, as just one example, isn't Bobby playing lead?? In the dueling slides of some CC Rider's or other blues tunes, similarilry, Weir is lead; Garcia and Weir together were simply fan-fucking-tastic. So, I would no more chategorize Weir as a 'rhythm' guitarist any more than I would simply categorize the GD as a rock n' roll band. Since the boys played so many genres of music, blues, rock, cowboy tunes, country tunes, experimental jams, etc. etc it is simply impossible to categorize any of it. jalepeno peppers mixed with cayene, mixed with chilli, with a touch of taragon thrown in for good measure. the acoustic grateful dead stuff is also totally enlightening; opening up new visions of reason in a lovely blend of sound. man, let's all remember the gd went 'unplugged' so long before Clapton, (no disrespect to the 'slow hand' intended) it is almost laughable that people thought Clapton's album was seminal. Seminal?? Cum on cc! what kind of double entendre is that!!???? ( -; yuk yuk yuk. peace.
