Grateful Dead

I have a Sony DTC-ES60 DAT Machine purchased new for a pretty penny, close to a grand paid back in '96. Carefully packed and stored. I have it listed on eBay with the original manual and remote. One owner, used sparingly.It has been personally tested and it works great! I also have a box of DAT tapes to throw in as well. Check it out if you are interested. I also have a Tascam CD-RW5000 Professional cd recorder and a Sony D-8 Digital recorder for $40 listed in my other items! P.S. *update* Sold!

hopefully, I'm not being an idiot and replying to the wrong topic, but I came on here to ask for suggestions as to what to do with old tapes. I can't really bear to throw them away. but I never listen to them and they take up space. I'd probably give them away if I knew someone who wanted them. Now that I think about it, I should probably review each one to make sure there aren't any gems that aren't readily available on the internet or on an official release.

You might check out online for a cassette to digital converter and put them on CD before you toss them. There are some inexpensive ones but it looks like they just convert to mp3 which won't impress the collecting world. Probably something out there that will convert to FLAC for you. Then you still have the music and can toss the tapes or stick them in the attic for some future archaeologist to find!

I am a cassette enthusiast when it comes to Dead shows. If anyone out there has a surplus of shows on cassette that are taking up too much space, let me know and maybe I can help! Preferably Maxell II's (not sure I spelled that right). See you in Chicago!!

Look on the B&H Audio Video site online. Great deals, depending on time of year & seasonal sales, or on newness of which unit you're looking for. The slide and film units are also cheaper than the multi-format ones that will scan print & photos too. Most of these external special purpose devices are Mac/Windoze neutral, w the bonus that they'll usually work better on the Macs and don't require special driver files (dll) to operate. Probably in the $100-200 range for one that will do 35 mm slides & negatives w good resolution & reasonable scan times. There are many decent free-ware or one time pay photo & image editors for Mac as well. ;)

Hi. I really hope I can get some help on this site. I have an iPod classic with about 20 Dick's Picks stored on there, as well as a few GD and Garcia albums. I would really like to get them into my computer. The iPod is now well over 10 years old and I'm not sure how long it's going to stay reliable. try a company called leawo. i used their software to back up my potentially problematic ipod. this software worked well and was easy to use. it broke the apple 'lock' on transfer/s...about $30, if i remember correctly. called LEAWO ITRANSFER

I'll try the free method first to transfer my iPod as suggested by rgergelis. Thanks a bunch for the suggestions both of you. As soon as I get a chunk of time I'll attempt it. I'll keep ya posted. MUST SAVE THE MUSIC!!! Peace all. Amy

Hey all. Question: Is there a reason to keep bootleg CD's anymore? I've got a ton of them from when vines were the thing. Now, with streaming, it's probably been 3 years since I've listened to a CD. It seems wrong to just throw them away, but not sure what else to do with them. They are in boxes in the attic at the moment. My store bought disks I'd keep, but all those AUD shows... I'm struggling to find a reason to store them. So, with the ease of streaming, does anyone listen to CD's anymore? Is there a reason to keep them? Thanks for any and all input! Peace, -Dave

Good Golly! Just received my 19! cd Box Set. It's absolutely awesome! Brings back such fond memories. If you haven't you NEED to get this set. Everything about it is beautiful. The artwork, the booklet, etc etc. Just fantastic! My order number was 7,202 out of 15,000. That was placed near the end of August, so if your lucky enough to get in an order before they are sold out DO IT! lol.For all you 'youngins', you ain't seen nothing yet till you catch a dose of some original good ol good ol grateful dead!

Hey now, so I got a lab in NYC we specialize in taking old analog film, video, audio and producing high quality digital files from said media. Now normally I charge 25 bucks per audio tape to convert them over to digital. But as a younger fellow who found his way into the dead scene by benefiting from all the material recorded by the previous generations I'd be remiss if I couldn't lend my hand to the community of heads who want to update their catalogs. Hey Now Family! I am so surprised that there's no discussion here about tape cover art. (At least, I didn't find any with Search.) During my tape trading days I made tape cover art for almost all of my 600 tapes. This activity was --and still is -- a big part of my life journey; my identity. I would NEVER throw away my tapes!

this post is not for the faint hearted,I was an early participant here from way back when Mr. Hunter was the webmaster..bout 30 trips around the sun give or take ago. I want my big ass collection of dead shows on cds to find a good home. These shows are Auds,Soundboards and about the best versions out there,no commercial releases.all done by the hands of the fans and thier decks. Ive known most of the tapers from back in the early days. These discs have been well kept in paper sleeves labeled and organized and stored in cabinets for cds and thats how i want them to stay. list of course is avail and pics , but I dont want to piece meal this collection out. is this possible?..would someone want this? is it all about hard drives, terabytes and streaming now? if not you maybe someone you know? shipping would be humongous.would have to be a pick up thing.im in the NYC area.Im not looking to sell the music of course. i Acquired most of this thru vines and the gratitude of the people who spread it far and wide. but with the huge amt of media put into it and storage cabinets maybe a barter thing or rtn of it on a hard drive..all open for discussion, ..also have hundreds of ratdog and PLQ shows but thats another project... Free: Around 100 SHN file CD-R's of Grateful Dead, mostly 1970's, a few 1960's. (I don't have a list and this number of CD-R's might come to about 30 shows. ) They are around 15-20 years old. I just converted one to WAV on my computer and it sounds great. As I recall from when I first made audio CDs out of them, the vast majority were fine with a very occasional corrupt file. They have been sitting in my house in a 3-ring binder with each disc in its own dust sleeve. The whole thing weighs around 10 pounds. Obviously if I could hand them over in person in central NC, that would be ideal. Otherwise, I'd ask you to pay the shipping cost only.

Marye, you mention photos. I have a very sad story on that subject. Many years ago back in 70s I had the good fortune to be the recipient of some good ol' GD hospitality. I hopped over from London to stay for a little while with Alan Trist, then as now running Ice Nine but back then from an office at GDHQ in San Rafael. The business was about a big gig in UK that eventually never happened. My job involved hanging with everyone and chewing the fat. I had this beautiful dinky little Rollei camera with me, could fit in your palm but it had a Sonar 2.8 lens. It was very unintimidating. I didn't want to play the tourist too much so I very occasionally asked if I could take a couple of shots (Keith at the piano in Trist's house, Phil posing with his new wheels at his place in Fairfax, Jerry et al backstage at the Keystone, Weir with Eileen at the office, few shots of Alan, Rock and Nicky S etc.). I was so discreet that I used up only a single roll of film (36 shots weren't they? I forget). Long story short, I opened the camera on my return to London to have the film developed only to find that due to a glitch of some sort the damn film hadn't been winding on so I was left with nothing. Bummer, huh? Those photos would be well-known by now, I reckon.

I live in Oakland and I'd love to take those tapes off of your hands! I can swing by and pick them up anytime.
