I Was There!
that's what I was thinking marye
Pyramid Lake was strange, But wonderful and healing
I remember thinking the world was crashing JG was sick and down and I think Bob weir had just been in a motorcycle accident didnt know if there was going to be a festival. But Bob showed up in a Helicopter at the last minute, My favorite song was festival what a cruzzing feel god song at the time. It was a small crowd I had a Brand new straw cowboy hat and long hair and Bob looked right at me several times, A great healing waters prayer to start out too, felt connect to the Shoshonie tribe ,I believe the chief started it out with healing words, It will always be with me

I was 23 and my 40yo boyfriend got us tickets. I couldn't really figure it out - seemed like it was a benefit for a very sick Jerry, but I thought "isn't he a rich guy?"
I rode up there from Berkeley on my '79 Triumph Bonneville and had to be very careful coming in on this very long dirt road with lots of hippies stuck on it - heavy sand drifts in the corners. The tribe members were watching all us dumb city folk flounder and looking very amused. I was dusty and tired. Found Boyfriend with his Pontiac GTO and the tent.
Later, I grabbed a handful of this "sand", looked and realized it was all little tiny seashells! My first time to a very special and severe place.
When Robert Hunter rapped/chanted Fire on the Mountain, all these Paiute members came out and danced hard, shaking their fists in the sky.
No alcohol but I had plenty speed. Leaving the next day, I found another biker headed to the Bay Area and we rode together. He had dumped his bike on a drift and said he was laughed at, ha. At some random Dennys in some random town, I slipped the bindle to him under the table so he could get some.
Made it home.
