"Grateful dead, in folktales of many cultures, the spirit of a deceased person who bestows benefits on the one responsible for his burial. In the prototypical story, the protagonist is a traveler who encounters the corpse of a debtor, to whom the honor of proper burial has been denied. After the traveler satisfies the debt, or, in some versions, pays for the burial, he goes on his way. In another version of the story, burial is prescribed for religious reasons but prohibited by civil authorities. It is this version that forms the theme of the apocryphal Book of Tobit in the Old Testament. The hero is soon joined by another traveler (sometimes in the form of an animal, or, in the story of Tobit, an angel), who helps him in a dramatic way. In some stories the companion saves the hero’s life; in others he helps him gain a prize. In many versions, the companion offers to aid the hero, but only on condition that they divide the prize. Then, as the hero is about to comply, the companion reveals himself as the grateful spirit of the deceased whom the hero helped to bury." From the Encyclopedia Britannica **** The mind boggles with the possibilities.

Dylan Carlson is creating his first major solo project outside of earth. There will be a limited edition lp/dvd/book and cd/dvd/book(500 of each format) and a special pressing of 150 copies(lp only) with personalized ex libris by Simon Fowler (Who will also do the cover and end papers). The illustrations will be by Kiyo Lappalainen. The limited edition books will be pop-up style. There will also be an open edition with regular flat printing in a cd booklet and flat lp printing. The recording will combine field recordings from various megalithic and other sites of human/fairy encounters across the UK, also the use of ritual and folkloric magical practices. The expedition will be filmed by Clyde Petersen. These recordings will be layered with Dylan's interpretations of classic Scotch-English ballads about human/fairy encounters from early modern England and Scotland(15th-18th century). It will also feature guest vocalists to sing the songs. This is not being done through a label, as earth's output has, but is a labor of love/obsession of Dylan's. Being primarily of Scotch-English descent, this is an historical journey to his personal and cultural past, embracing music/folklore/the occult dimension and history. This is also result of personal experience's of 'the other side'. His blog, http://drcarlsonalbion.wordpress.com/ has details, if interested. The field recordings will be accomplished in April-May of 2012. The rest of the recording/mastering will be finished in summer and early fall, the artwork is an ongoing process, already begun. Dylan is planning to have it all done for a May 2013 release. Join in the restoration of magic, a return to a world of spirits. Where all objects have a will of their own and a language they speak in, and we have learned how to speak with them again. It will be titled "Coleman Grey presents 'Falling with a Thousand Stars and Other Wonders from the House of Albion'."

one thing i feel rather strongly about is everyone on dead.net talking and engaging more in the "In Memory..." topic. maybe not so much when artists or musicians etc. are mentioned, as these can be personal posts, but when fellow Heads and Kynd folk connected to the scene need help and positive energy i think it's our duty as a community to stick together and cast a healing light towards those most in need. please spare a thought and be there for others who desperately need our healing and who require help.

It was quite a day! I discovered Steve Kimock at that event and really enjoyed all contributions from John Cipollina throughout the day. Too bad Bob Weir couln't play his guitar because of his broken arm. I have some photos from this event but not on my computer. Perhaps I will digitalize them sometime soon. I'm working on a documentary about the trip that I made with a friend of mine to this one day festival that was held at Pyramid Lake, Nevada at the end of the summer of 1986 and I thought this would be a good place to connect with other folks who were at the event.

Long Strange Trip Blu-Ray bonus disc 2 from Dead.Net that I received today (11-19-18) is not recognized by my Blu-Ray player. Disc 1 with the entire documentary plays fine, as do all my other Blu-ray discs. Cleaning player and disc did not help. Is it just me or are others having the same problem?

Does anyone think/Know if the GD performance @ Woodstock will ever be released? Does anyone know the story of why it hasn't been released so far?

Does anyone know if/when GD's performance @ Woodstock will ever be released? And why hasn't for 50 years?

the entire performance was somewhat cursed and I don't recall the band ever having a good word about it. I seem to recall Phil having some stories in interviews way back when. I don't know what else might be going on. On a slightly related front, nice Jorma interview in JamBase: https://jambands.com/features/2019/02/03/jorma-kaukonen-discusses-woodstock-50-a-potential-hot-tuna-record-and-more/

I was born and raised in New York City as a deadhead, but one thing I've never been able to find in any store or online, is a Grateful Dead Nightfall of Diamonds poster. I have always wanted to put that beautiful gleaming, New York skyline, with the words 'Grateful Dead' on my wall since I was 11. Can you guys please make that live album cover into a small square poster, or even expand upon it with all that creativity you guys have, spice it up and make it trippier. You could even make it similar to the Grateful Dead Dead Set poster that already exists. This would be so awesome and I feel like so many people would buy it. Thanks for the consideration!

To all of my follow DeadHeads looking to enjoy the music in Mexico next year, I am right there with you! To all my fellow DeadHeads who got shut out because of either high costs or 'technical issues,' please know that you can book rooms at Moon Palace Cancun DIRECTLY and for a fraction of the cost. The music will fill the air and I really do not think mandatory ear plugs for folks who did not purchase packages is really an enforceable plan. You do not have to be wealthy or stealthy to be able to hear the words and songs given to us over the years - or at least, in my opinion, you shouldn't have to be.

Hello!
I'm so beyond frustrated. I had tix for last year's show in MI, but of course it was cancelled.

So, like so many, my friends and I were over the moon when I saw they were touring this year. A couple of us signed up and verified for the presale for your Sept. 10, 2021 show at DTE, which began this morning at 10 am.
I logged in early to verify my payment info was correct and current. I was very early in the queue. My turn came and I put my four tix in the cart and entered my presale offer code, then chose my payment and the Ticketmaster site went wonky and botched the payment process. When I tried to do the payment again, TM returned with tix were no longer available for that offer code.
There was no option to get another offer code. There was, at that point, no options for any recourse. There is no option to speak with anybody at TM.
The same thing happened to my friend who was also trying for our tix.

Truly, those of us who had tix for last year's show would likely have been happy to have simply held on to our tix for a later event, rather than have our tix for the 2020 show cancelled.
Also, with all the bad experiences TM gives customers (This isn't my first rodeo.) I was surprised that The Dead chose TM to sell tix to their events, rather than an alternative, like many other jam bands have opted for.
I can see, from the TM and Dead social media forums, that many heads are having the same failures happen when trying to purchase tix for these shows.

Is there anybody who can help, please? I sure can't get any assistance from TM.
We, my friends and I, went from huge excitement to extreme heartbreak in a matter of a couple of minutes.

Kind regards, Barbara

A Bart Simpson shirt in a Peruvian Protest. Source: CNN International

Bart looked as angry and determined as the person wearing it.

edit: Peruvian protests — and the government’s response — are “a monster eating itself,” one expert told Vox.
Where have I heard this before OB

To Dave M, and powers to be;
Dave please, I know 1977 is a great year, so every show needs release. Unfortunately, I was only 11/12 and my parents did not do Dead. Before I get old and die, please release more Vince, and every Bruce and Vince Show. We know all of this great stuff is there. I just dont wznt another 20 years to go by before I can relive Shoreline, Vegas 2 years, and Oakland Coliseum. I beg of you man..
