Best Scarlet>Fire ever!!
Holy mackerel, what an epic 'Scarlet>Fire.' Listening to the transition still gives me goosebumps. It's so seamless, so flowing and powerful...it gives new meaning to 'groupmind,' even for the boys. And Jerry's blistering leads during 'Fire' will just melt your ears off-he really goes all out with some cool distortion. If you don't have a copy of this one, you can still hear the 'Scarlet>Fire' on the So Many Roads box set. And the 'Other One' was incredible, too, with Bobby doing some amazing "hammer on/pull off" stuff towards the end. Afterwards, a bunch of us danced all over again to the entire show in our hotel's conference room after a taper was kind enough to play his DAT for us.
More coolness...
I forgot to mention the killer Truckin' jam. After Jerry left the stage, Bobby, Phil and Brent continued playing to form a unique jam that had a lot of momentum. Brent delivered some fantastic ivory tickling during this segment as it wound its way into a wonderfully weird Drums. Nobody minded that Brent forgot the words to the full 'Hey Jude'...everybody went nuts anyway.
Broken string, too
Jerry broke a string during the jam near the end of Hey Jude and kept playing.
As to finding stuff, liquid in juice worked.
A friend of mine wanted to smoke and was jonesing and stepped inside the
Copp's and took off his shoes and IMMEDIATELY felt what he thought was gum sticking to his foot.
But it was black and sticky and the perfect groundscore for him.
Brent's lyrics loss
I forgot to mention - somewhere in the 80s I saw Brent sing with Go Ahead (the band he and sometimes Bill were in briefly) Hey Jude -> Dear Mr. F -> Jude Finale in Philadelphia and he got the words right. When I heard that I wondered why the Dead didn't do Hey Jude in full with Brent.
I got my wish this night.
Incidentally, Go Ahead also did a killer Medicated Goo (the Traffic song).
KILLER!!!
This was a killer show! Psychs were hard to find, but I managed to smuggle some smoke across. It was a life saver. Some dude in our hotel heard I had had some and traded some liquid for a little. It was f ing fantastic! Me and all my friends were flyin all night and the Holiday Inn was total chaos! It was a great show beginning to end and the streets of Hamilton were crazy all night. I was crying during Beleive it or not. So beautiful. This was exactly what you want from a dead experience!! I'll never forget it!
My First Show!
This was my first show! I'll never forget it. Killer Scalet-Fire. When they dropped Jude-Fantasy-Jude I remember everyone looking around like: "What? Holy crap!" Too awesome. Blazing Sugar Mags to close it out too.

A Favorite
This is an excellent show. The Scarlet>Fire is off the hook and the Hey Jude>Dear Mr. Fantasy>Hey Jude was teriffic and a bit unique compared to others I have heard and seen. Lots of good stuff in the first set as well. Rock on.
good things come in small packages
This was my first show with less then 20,000 people and yes the psychs were hard to find but right before the show started in the back corner of the parking lot,my savior, thanks. We all we were jammed in that small parking lot across the street. I remember people hugging the mounties because they were GREAT as long as it stayed in the parking lot; Me and my friend Dan A. sold grilled cheese or gave them away They said there was only 1arrest. Hamilton is beautiful and so are the people
Oh my...
I remember that, after the madness of cops (not copps) beating up on innocent deadheads in the insanity of George the First's "Drug War" in the Northeastern U.S., that the scene was so kind in Canada. Instead of the loudspeakers blaring out nasty warnings near the gate (as had happened in previous venues), the gate announcements had a friendly "Welcome to Copps Coliseum..." message and tone.
A friendly policeman was observed, while pouring out a Deadhead's hapless beer, to smile and lament "it's such a waste of a good beer." When another Deadhead pointed out that he was pouring it over his cop shoes by accident, he had a good laugh.
An elderly woman at the nearby enclosed farmer's market inquired of my friends and I, "Are you here for the festival?" Yes, we said. It was such a friendly reception after the chaos of the earlier tour.
And that was all outside the show. The show itself absolutely blew me away.

Whup on the boxcar, beat on the bell
Nothin' else shakin' so you might just as well...
Oh Canada
This was an unforgetable 2nd set. The energy, the pure power that the band created was just... remarkable.
I was desperate for a Roses. I had been looking for one for quite some time & finally got one. What can I say I'm just a sucker for a slow jerry. I didn't realize that it was the last one.
Hey Squeaky, did u find mike hunt??
Smoking tunes
What a night. I often listen to this show downloaded from Deadpod. The Scarlet/ Fire is still as thrilling twenty years later to me. I can remember the whole crowd singing Hey jude and being in the stratosphere. Still a big wow.
Brent
For these shows, I stayed at the hotel that was attached to the arena. The show ends,we leave and take the elevator upstairs to our hotel room floor. We're munching ice from the ice machine, and a WHACKED OUT Brent comes staggering down the hall. Eyes bulging, literally swaying and staggering. Seemed like he left the stage, went to his room to get high, and then headed out. We bullshitted with him for about two minutes, and off he staggered into the elevator. Pretty wild.
This was really one of the best I ever saw
Scarlet/Fire, I concur, off the hook. I remember blasting James Brown in the parking lot after the gig and people getting down with us.
i grew up in Hamilton
I was young (17), naive and very impressionable. These shows set the course for the rest of my life. I remember getting pinched with a little bit of hashish ( less than a gram ) on top of Jackson Square, which was connected directly to Copps. He snickered and let me go. From what i heard afterwards, that never would have happened in the U.S. I was always a fan of the R.C.M.P after that. I'm glad I caught on at such a peak time in their career.
