Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have music from 1970, 1981 and 1988.
Our first selction is from the Family Dog in San Francisco on 2/28/70, where we have this great short-ish segment of music that represents the classic transition period for the Grateful Dead when they went from psychedelic warriors to the Americana songwriters that would be defined by their 1970 albums (NB: later this same night they played a ripping Alligator sequence…). From this show we have Monkey And The Engineer, Little Sadie> Black Peter, China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider > High Time > Dire Wolf.
From 11 years later in Cleveland on 3/3/81, we have the end of the show, featuring Lost Sailor > Saint Of Circumstance > Black Peter > Good Lovin'; Casey Jones.
Lastly this week we have the entire first set from 9/5/88 in Landover, MD, at the Capital Center, featuring Iko Iko ; Walkin' Blues ; Ramble On Rose ; Mama Tried > Mexicali Blues ; Row Jimmy ; Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again ; When Push Comes To Shove ; The Music Never Stopped.
Be sure to stop by and join us here next week for more music from the vault.
