Week of May 27-June 2, 2019
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1970, 1973, and 1990, three very distinct and exciting periods of Dead music.
Our first selection this week is from 3/1/70 at the Family Dog in San Francisco, where we have this classic 1970 sequence of Beat It On Down The Line, Dire Wolf, Good Lovin'> Drums > Good Lovin', Cumberland Blues, I'm A King Bee, China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider.
Next up are a couple of brand new, 10-day-old songs (both debuted on 2/9/73 in Palo Alto), from 2/19/73 in Chicago, where we have Eyes of the World>China Doll. Both of these would be important parts of the 1973 Dead repertoire, with Eyes being recorded for Wake Of The Flood, and China Doll being saved for Mars Hotel in 1974.
Lastly this week is the end of the show from 2/25/90 in Oakland, opening night of a three night run, and the first show of 1990, where we have Space > The Wheel > Gimme Some Lovin' > Wharf Rat > Sugar Magnolia.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
