Week of December 2-8, 2019
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1971, 1981, and 1987.
Our first selection this week is from 8/14/71 at the Berkeley Community Theatre, a month after Bill Graham had closed the Fillmore West and was trying out alternative midsized venues for Grateful Dead shows in the Bay Area. From this first night of a two night run, we have this excellent second set jam: Truckin'> Drums > The Other One ; Me And Bobby McGee ; Sugar Magnolia; Not Fade Away> Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad > Not Fade Away, Johnny B. Goode, Uncle John’s Band.
Next is the end of the second set from 8/14/81 in Seattle, WA, where we have Playing In The Band > Wharf Rat> I Need A Miracle > Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad > Johnny B. Goode.
Our final selection this week is the entire first set from the middle night of a three night run at Red Rocks on 8/12/87, the final year the Dead would appear there, where we have Hell In A Bucket> Sugaree ; Yankee Doodle Tuning ; Never Trust A Woman; Cumberland Blues> Mexicali Blues ; Friend Of The Devil ; My Brother Esau; Bird Song> The Music Never Stopped.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
