Week of February 17-23, 2020
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we’ll check out some 1980s Dead from 1980, 1981, and 1989.
Our first selection this week is the terrific first set, played acoustically, from 10/7/80 at the Warfield in San Francisco during the Dead’s three week run at the theatre on Market Street. From this show we have Iko Iko ; Dark Hollow ; Rosalie McFall ; Monkey And The Engineer ; To Lay Me Down ; Heaven Help The Fool ; Deep Elem Blues ; El Paso > Ripple.
From a year later on 10/8/81 in Copenhagen, Denmark, we have the start of the first set, featuring Feel Like A Stranger ; They Love Each Other > C C Rider ; Cumberland Blues ; Mama Tried > Mexicali Blues ; Althea ; Cassidy.
Lastly this week is the start of the second set fro 10/11/89 at the Brendan Byrne Arena at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ, where we have China Cat Sunflower> I Know You Rider; Estimated Prophet>Terrapin Station. This was the opening night of a five night run, coming on the heels of the Warlocks shows in Hampton on October 8 and 9.
