When they push the jamming on the live stuff it has that same burning, big bang propulsion that only Hawkwind seems to know how to play, the fact they do it with acoustic instruments is even more impressive. It is definitely string band/bluegrass, music, but it sits on the edge of time. Greensky Bluegrass can do it sometimes, especially on courage for the road, but most jamgrass bands seem like singer/songwriters cloaked in banjos and weed. Strings and his band are true cosmic champions.

Stalk-Forrest -that's an intriguing idea, that some of his music reminds you of Hawkwind. I think I'm going to enjoy listening to more music by Billy Strings.
I also noticed that he is coming to England in October, so I snagged a ticket. Having seen Hawkwind last month - my first live concert since before Covid - I was looking to see what else I could see who might be interesting, and this fits the bill perfectly.
The only thing is, he is playing at The Royal Albert Hall, which is quite big, and I am up in the circle. Its a beautiful hall, but one I associate more with classic rock bands. We shall see ! - Stalk-Forrest HermitJoined:Billy Stings
He and his band remind me of the Dead more than most jam bands, yet also remind me of Hawkwind while being firmly in the bluegrass fold. They have a vast knowledge of old standards and can push their music in any direction. All of his albums are good and his catalog of live shows on Nugs is wonderful place to get lost.

Somebody posted a couple of videos of Billy Strings on the only other website I go on last night. One was a version of a song called "Dust In A Baggie " and the other was a duet with Sierra Hull - who I had never heard of - called "What Does The Deep Sea Say". Clearly very, very, good.

His song 'Knew It All'
"Well I thought I knew it all, until I crashed into a wall, let me learn from my mistakes, and try to pick up the pieces.." Jamming galore, traditional bluegrass, remarkable soloing, and tremendous interior playing between the five. Transportive and highly recommended.
"When some things go wrong, take a moment to be thankful for the many things that are going right." the Buddha
- Yoach 33Joined:Steely Dead
This band is such an amazing fusion of Steely Dan and the Dead, I just can't even explain. They seamlessly transition between the two groups catalogues, it blows my mind. They play with enthusiasm, unbridled!! I would encourage anyone to check these guys out. So much fun!!

Rhetorical questions here;
Like rock and roll?
Like grunge? metal? hair? punk?
New bands? New music?
Like rock and roll?
Happily recently stumbled across some hard workin rocker women in a band called
DIE SPITZ!
They're bringing it hard fast and loud.
Check 'em out Baba O'Riley - friendofthed3vilJoined:Shakedown Citi in NYC Area
Wanted to share this up-and-coming tribute band, Shakedown Citi, that I just saw live. The group formed last year in the Citi Fields parking lot and really have something special going on. They play a ton of show in/around NYC --- I'm especially excited for their show at Hill Country Live on Tues. Sept. 3. You should be able to find them with a quick google search-- they got active website, socials, and a link tree for upcoming gigs.
