Thanks for the heads-up! Always great to hear about solid Dead tribute bands, especially ones playing outside the usual U.S. circuit. I’ll check out the Hebden Bridge show on Bandcamp sounds like a fun set. Appreciate the recommendation!

This album is 100% instrumental and conjures up images of those long '69 through '72 Dark Star jams. I hope this is the right place for this, but I have not posted anything here for a very long time. For us deadheads in the UK (and elsewhere naturally) I would recommend the Grateful Dudes. Their latest show at Hebden Bridge is available on Bandcamp and it’s a cracker! They are always on the lookout for new venues too. The October edition of International Times has a great article on them and various links.

When they push the jamming on the live stuff it has that same burning, big bang propulsion that only Hawkwind seems to know how to play, the fact they do it with acoustic instruments is even more impressive. It is definitely string band/bluegrass, music, but it sits on the edge of time. Greensky Bluegrass can do it sometimes, especially on courage for the road, but most jamgrass bands seem like singer/songwriters cloaked in banjos and weed. Strings and his band are true cosmic champions.

Stalk-Forrest -that's an intriguing idea, that some of his music reminds you of Hawkwind. I think I'm going to enjoy listening to more music by Billy Strings.
I also noticed that he is coming to England in October, so I snagged a ticket. Having seen Hawkwind last month - my first live concert since before Covid - I was looking to see what else I could see who might be interesting, and this fits the bill perfectly.
The only thing is, he is playing at The Royal Albert Hall, which is quite big, and I am up in the circle. Its a beautiful hall, but one I associate more with classic rock bands. We shall see !

He and his band remind me of the Dead more than most jam bands, yet also remind me of Hawkwind while being firmly in the bluegrass fold. They have a vast knowledge of old standards and can push their music in any direction. All of his albums are good and his catalog of live shows on Nugs is wonderful place to get lost.
