You're hilarious. Did you even read that article from the link you posted?? It absolves Biden's son of being a lobbyist. It proves it right there in the article you provide as a source for him being a lobbyist. He is NOT a lobbyist for the credit card companies. He was a consultant for MBNA. Joe Biden, in case you never saw any interviews with him or bothered to read his bio on Wiki or anywhere else, is actually not a "good old boy" - even being in the Senate for as long as he has. He makes no bones about his stances on real issues and is THE expert in this country on Foreign Affairs. BOTH parties together, in the Senate, voted him Chairman of the Judiciary Committee and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee? Why? Because he's brilliant and understands the ins & outs of how government works. Obama picked him because of their DIFFERING opinions on how to handle many issues. Barack & HRC shared MANY views on MANY issues. If you watched 60 Minutes this past Sunday (or even the trailer for it, 'cause I know you don't get too far past the "headlines") you would have seen Obama - very wholeheartedly - stating that he likes to gather a bunch of people he knows & trusts, put them into a room and sometimes the opinions differ to the point of near-violent discussion. That's how you hear differing opinions and why each one has its merits. Then he & his closest advisors decide how to proceed. THAT'S how you do it. So, you are in a campaign for the highest office of our country. You aknowledge there needs to be a change, we are on the wrong path, that is why I am am running for this office. There is a history in the current administration of behind the scenes, backroom meetings leading to a very internal form of decisionmaking. You are out for the "common man'. For change. For accountability. Weeks ago you announce your running mate. That person is experianced in governing, and leading, albeit on a smaller scale , but as is said, that person has fresh ideas and vision and has taken on the "good old boys' that persons quote. So..... you do not allow this person to take reporters questions from day one. This is past day one. Unfortunate they are not able to articulate their fresh ideas and vision. They are now meeting with the heads of state of other governments on our beloved planet. Many different peoples with many different ways, The color of our lifes. It's why people travel, to see another life they are not familiar with, people, wildlife, and culture. So... you decide to allow reporters and photographers when you meet with them, and as they all assemble, you decide no, everybody out. the news organizations respond, no, and photographers are allowed to stay. Lots of smiles on camera and no talk, no views, no fresh ideas, no vision, and sadly no interaction with the other people on this planet. Lot's of smiles and no substance. Hmmmm. Just doesn't sound all that constructive. Maybe destructive. Definitly not what will bring this beautiful blue planet in the sky together. Lost opportunity, so sad. This song will bring a tear to every eye who felt that time. I was sitting at the dinner table with my brother, mom dad, myself and my brother who was 4 years older than I. He declined to sign up for the draft. It was the times where every night the Nightly News listed all those names that came up on the draft lottery, no not the big spin lottery, the draft lottery. For weeks the dinner table was consumed with arguing, animosity, just, bad vibes, and hard feelings. Then one day as we were assembled for our nightly dinner, the usual hard feelings starting to simmer, we all look up and on the little black and white 9" screen, my brothers birthdate came up in the first round. Suddenly the room stood still. There was a subtle, yet vibrant, shock in the air. Mom cried, quietly. Dad sat silently, and I was so glad my brother was sitting here next to me. I was so proud. My brother sat there and, I will never forget, was so very confident he had made the right decision, he just sat there and watched the little world around him turn, to a different view. This was at a time when neighbors upon neighbors were dealing body bags and no hope. Month's after this the war was stopped. anyone else still having this problem? it seems to me that 16,000 people need to purchase plane tickets in the next couple of days to stay within the 14 day advance notice airlines want to reserve a decent rate. my account has been charged. i have my confirmation email. but still not tickets???? i dont want to purchase my airline tickets in case ticketbastards have oversold the event. what to do???? advice?

i just love how they charge me a "convenience charge" for the convenience of ticketfast. just before they charged me this "convenience charge" they offered me an option of "ticket fast." the benefit of paying for this service is the "convenience" of being able to print the tickets immediately after purchase. they dont tell you about the "24 temporary hold" that they have now had up for almost a week. people who ordered hard tickets are already receiving theirs. this is not convenient in any way. in fact it has stressed me out because i need to purchase my plane tickets. in fact im really scared ticketbastard will screw up my order. it is keeping me up at night. it seems to me that anyone who incurred this "convenience charge" of $2.50 should be refunded their $2.50. I'm not sure how it's going for everyone but here's an update. At 8:30AM east coast time, my ticketfast tickets were still not available. OK. Now that I'm not stressed out about my tix, I thought I would share some recommendations about State College, given I'm a transplanted Californian who has been here for the last 16 years. First, hotel rooms should not be a problem. Because 100,000 people come into town for Penn State home football games, there are more hotel rooms here than is typical for a town this size. However, prices range, so I assume the Motel 6 will fill up faster than the Hilton. In addition, we have a great brew pub here...Otto's. They brew their fine libations on the property, the food is solid, and it is not very expensive. I highly recommend a visit before or after the show (they've been known to have dead tunes playing intermittently among the music selections and the folks that go there are very mellow)...this is not an annoying undergrad student bar as it is not located in the downtown student area. On the downside, don't expect ethnic food or lots of good food. It's pretty mediocre as far as eating out (with a few high end exceptions). My wife and I go out to eat here when we don't feel like cooking, not because there's somewhere great to go. If you want to hang out after the show, you can go downtown (walking distance from the venue) and explore all the bars and taverns, but you'll also be in an ocean of 18-22 year olds. If you can, I'd try places outside of downtown such as Ottos, but you'll need to drive. If you do go downtown, try Zeno's, the Rathskellar, or Zola. My biggest suggestion for anyone who wants to party before or after the show is to do it off campus (the venue is on campus). Do not hang out and party in the parking lot or on campus as you greatly increase the risk of someone disapproving in a big way. Looking forward to seeing all of you!

I just read your post about not having to sell yourself out for going to the show. You have! So has everyone else that's going. Especially those that are not political but are going anyway just because it's the boys.

I say, great for two of my favorite bands standing up for the morally right cause. It amazes me that despite 8 years of massive failures in economics, security, high gas prices, high unemployment, failed war in Iraq (based on lies/mis-information), high health care costs, Theocratic fascism, open borders and failures with virtually every other issue, that there are actually people out there who plan on voting McCain/Palin. I'm astonished to see so many seemingly intellectual people suffering from amnesia. Were they living in the same America as I the last 8 years? Anybody remember .98 cents a gallon gas the summer before Bush took office? I wish I could attend the concert but will support the cause.

If you're planning on flying to State College for the gig, here's some useful info. First, we do have a regional airport here called University Park (SCE). It has about 12 flights in a day on regional affiliates of Northwest, United, and USAir. These aircraft are all small (about 35 seats). So you can do the math...there's only about 400 seats per day. Fortunately, the football team plays at Wisconsin that weekend, so seats won't be taken up by the football fans. But the total number of available seats to fly directly into town is still pretty limited...book yours fast. While you might fly into Pittsburgh, Philly, or NY and rent a car, I also recommend people check out flights to Harrisburg, PA. It's about 75 minutes to State College from the Harrisburg airport, and flights there are usually cheaper than directly to State College. This would be the second best choice if you're not flying directly here. See ya at the show!

I may be mistaken, but I've always believed the Grateful Dead to be a truly unique and purely unifying American spirit. Obviously, in this day in age this is no longer true, as the surviving members have entered the realm of divisive partisan politics. The music of the Grateful Dead (1965-1995) will always be above politics and I'm thankful to have been turned on to such an enlightened philosophy. Moments of camaraderie of all people at Dead shows over the years may be unparalled in the history of humanity; the nearest I've seen to a unified peaceful community and flashing glimpse of utopia, in my humble opinion. ...in what has gone on to what Obama will do if he is elected. He is a politician. Nothing more. He has injected MORE money into a political campaign than any human ever has. Why? It's ok not to agree with them politically and still enjoy them. This show, they are doing in their own names. They are not flying the 'Grateful Dead' banner of 'Deadheads for Obama' thingy. They have a right to their opinions and their expression of them, as long as then represent themselves and not the unwilling. After all nothing is more American than that. They are not dragging all deadheads along for the ride and dead heads are also entitled to their own opinions and the expression of them. They should be commended for doing that because they could easily use the name or say that all deadheads should be for Obama or be preachy and nasty like Steisand or Baldwin...I feel they are being careful and that is good enough for me.

The Grateful Dead have played political fund raisers before, just not for the two party system. They have played benefits for the Black Panthers among others. You have to remember that the politics of the Black Panthers were far more divisive at the time than Obama vs. McCain today. Also the Rex foundation has at times supported causes that many would name "progressive" or even socialists causes. It's their gig and their music. They can do what they want and always have. And the heads have often been at odds with the band. Some heads have gone as far as to petition to have songs removed from the setlist. Seems crazy now but the community was divided over the release of victim or the crime.

I am fatigued with the double standards that are universally utilized by the right and the left in judging situations, behaviors, philosophy, practice and so often used to excuse behaviors/practices of those they support and then smear or vilify the other side. Here is my diagnosis of what we are really talking about. This isn't even socialism. What, you say? Tim, are you nuts?!!!, Yes of course I am. But listen and remember this phrase and as it creeps into the common vernacular, and I expect credit (if not a rebate, then maybe in the form of new music, Rhino?). Our country has devolved into a 'REVERSE-SOCIALIST' form of government. Instead of socialism- where the government owns and operates business/corporations, our government is controlled/owned by big businesses and corporations = 'reverse socialism'. These entities make decisions that keep paramont the corporate/business interests and any individual/societal/community interests are secondary (if even rising to that importance). It is like the Superman Bizzaro world, where everything is in reverse. For example, instead of public safety regulations being the most important, our business/corportate-controlled government focuses primarily on what will sustain and ensure corporate interests. Even if that means danger to the public. Reverse-socialism! The founding father's did not intend for the market to control America. They thought the capitalism would enhance the culture but they did not envison the corporate stranglehold that currently calls the shots in the modern USA. The founding fathers would turn in their graves (like pinwheels) to witness what currently passes for the republic that they invented. And how in this age, the constitution that they lovingly and painstakingly fashioned has been turned into toliet paper by the reverse-socialist government. The greatest political experiment in the history of man has been highjacked by an unelected cabal of meglomaniacal radical capitalist extremists who worship money over all. They worship money above any deity, above any alliegence to country, creed, culture, or even the continuation of this republic. It is a reverse-socialism. There is probably a better (fancier) or more descriptive or elegant term. This 'frankenstein' has been created within/by this culture and as with Mary Shelly's beast, it will destroy it's creator without significant intervention. So grab the torches, call out to all, rile up the village, and GET OUT THE VOTE. That is what they fear the most. The status quo promote blind obedience, lockstep, partisanship, rancor, and especially ignorance on the issues of the day. Beware the 'big lie' game. Please vote. I pretty much agree with your assertions, which could pretty much be made about all nations since the collapse of feudalism and the rise of nation states in the west. Dominated by descendents of the Frankish "lords", who became the nobility and ruling class of Western Europe, they moved to dominate the mercantile class as well - pretty much the only thing they could do with the rise of democracies. They have now subverted democracies as they subverted monarchies before them and the Church before that. Follow the money!

Reverse socialism is not anything new you basically just outlined the first chapter of my business ethics class which is about Stockholder vs Stakeholder theory both which can to lead to different types of socialist society's. One controlled by more government regulations or corporations becoming unelected civil servants who do what they think is in the best interest for society or what they consider stakeholders. I'm excited about the show do not care about the political ties it has even thought i wish this money went to something useful that could help people out instead of just more money for another commercial or some other waste.

There's lots to talk about and interesting people to talk to about them but we are very restricted as to where we talk about it...To fully express ourselves we essentially have to hi-jack threads. The other political threads get about as much action as an elderly nun. Anyway, here we go... - William Blake is wrong. Perception is still a paradigm even if you could "clense" it, hence we need to gain knowlege without the distortion of perception; a priori knowlege aquisition, if you will. Perception in it's purest state, still distorts, by defintion. -Ron Paul does make good points and I would like to see nothing more than these crooked ass companies, who used these mass amount of junk loans as collateral, go down. Where he makes his mistake is two fold. One, these companies gambled and pooled obsene amounts of money, enough to put the economy on it's knees. Second, we, the tax payer, will assume the debt anway when these companies declare bankrupcy. The bail out is more likely, the cheaper option. The good news here is that every one of the companies invovled are under investigation by the FBI...Anybody caught acting fraudulently, in this case will be made an example of. See Enron, lessons were not learned from 2000. - The panthers the Dead played for were not the same violent ones as were on the east coast. They may have shared some philosophies, but at that time, those Pathers were community activists, not militants. I can't see the Dead playing a bennefit for people who hurt and kill other people; at least not intentionally.

If that were true, then why are so many comapnies moving their operations offshore? I know the answer, it is because it is to expensive to operate here, but the governement is not controled by the corps. The gov. in many cases are driving the companies away. Members of the government may be, but not the government as a whole. With the influence of corperate influence, you also have to take into account special interests who are even worse. While, corperations trying to influence the governement may be somewhat of a problem, they are actually distracted from time to time because they have a business to run....Special interests make bitching to the government a full time job, so in my opinion, they are worse.

so when they're not giving money for nancy pelosi they are raising bread for barrack obama. all of of this politicizing will go down as a mistake. it's already got everyone fighting. what next? they gonna start promoting religion? what a drag man. stick to the music. anyone who thinks one political party is better than the other is friggin blind man. jerry said it best: "the problem with choosing the lesser of two evils is you're still choosing evil."
