Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we'll hear Grateful Dead music spanning 15 years, 1974 to 1989, with a stop in 1981 along the way.
Our first selection this week is from 7/25/74 in Chicago, featuring the end of the show, Johnny B. Goode, Uncle John's Band>U.S. Blues, One More Saturday Night; Ship Of Fools. That's a rare Ship Of Fools encore, a song that was new to most ears, as Mars Hotel had been released just a month before, on June 27, 1974.
Next up is music from 7/7/81 in Kansas City, featuring the end of the second set, Space>Truckin'>Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad>Black Peter>I Need A Miracle>Good Lovin'. This a good little tour with plenty of hot shows.
Lastly this week is music from 7/18/89 at Alpine Valley, the penultimate Grateful Dead show at Alpine. This concert's video was shown in movie theatres in 2012 to great response. From the start of the second set we have Sugar Magnolia>Scarlet Begonias>Man Smart, Woman Smarter>Eyes Of The World. The transition from Sugar Magnolia to Scarlet Begonias is seamless, one of those transitions that sounds like a perfectly composed piece of music.
Be sure to join us here next week for more tunes from the vault.
